  1. I had a dream last night that the NBA moved to an auction type of draft. Instead of the bad teams getting higher draft picks, they get more auction money to bid. I think it would be interesting to see the teams bid for different players. I know in fantasy sports I vastly prefer an auction draft.

  2. Quote

    Projected starting lineup:

Devin Askew (6.5 PPG at Kentucky)
    Courtney Ramey (12.2 PPG)
    Andrew Jones (14.6 PPG)
Timmy Allen (17.2 PPG at Utah)
Tre Mitchell (18.8 PPG at UMass)

I really don't think this will be the starting (or closing) lineup.  I think Ramey and Jones are going to be our starting guards and then Timmy Allen will play his natural SF role.  Then Disu and Mitchell as our starting bigs.

Askew will be first off the bench and can sub for any of the 5.  If subbing for Allen, Disu or Mitchell, everybody slides down a position and we go small.

Then Christian Bishop is next off the bench and can again sub for any of the 5 and we can go big or small depending on the sub.

  3. I think Greg Brown has the potential to be a decent NBA player. Yes, he looks a little awkward when he runs. But... he has a real nose for the ball. I was very impressed with his rebounding this year.

The best rebounder in NBA history was 6'7 Dennis Rodman and he was another supreme athlete who actually didn't look that fluid when running down the court.

Also for all the talk about his immaturity, I was pleasantly surprised with how he handled his limited minutes in the last few games.  He still encouraged his teammates and didn't really seem to pout on the bench.  A lot of 1-and-done's would have handled that way worse.

I'm pulling for him in the NBA.

  4. I guess my main point above is that I don’t think getting vaccinated or not is really that much of a political thing. Plenty of Democrats aren’t getting the vaccine, especially blacks and Hispanics.  Plenty of Republicans aren’t getting the vaccine, especially rural rednecks. No need for political finger pointing. Just get freaking vaccinated.

Need to work on getting the black and Latinx caught up.  Asians are kicking ass.

Here is what I'm struggling with... I keep hearing in the media that it is the right-wing white Trumpers who are avoiding the vaccine and causing all the problems. That doesn't jive with the above stats.

Blacks are 87% democrat and 33% vaccinated.  Hispanic are 66% democrat and 38% vaccinated.  I guess it is the republican blacks and hispanics who aren't getting vaccinated???

  6. Agree regarding the 2018 NBA class. Very solid, deep class.  Love seeing Ayton step up and prove the haters wrong.  Here is how I would re-rank that class.  I bet we will see as many as 8-10 players from that class earn at least one all-star.

I still am pulling for Bamba to find the right situation and show what he can do.

    1. Luka Doncic - 27.7, 8.0, 8.6 - 1st Team NBA
    2. Trae Young - 25.3, 3.9, 9.4 - All-Star
    3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - 23.7, 4.7, 5.9
    4. DeAndre Ayton - 14.4, 10.5, 1.4
    5. Collin Sexton - 24.3, 3.1, 4.4
    6. Michael Porter Jr. - 19.0, 7.3, 1.1
    7. Jaren Jackson Jr. - 17.4, 4.6, 1.4 (2020)
    8. Wendell Carter Jr - 11.2, 8.2, 1.9
    9. Marvin Bagley - 14.1, 7.4. 1.0
    10. Devonte Graham - 14.8, 2.7. 5.4
    11. Miles Bridges - 12.7, 6.0, 2.2
    12. Mikal Bridges - 13.5, 4.3, 2.1
    13. Jalen Brunson - 12.6, 3.4, 3.5
    14. Mitchell Robinson - 8.3, 8.1, 0.5
    15. Mo Bamba - 8.0, 5.8. 0.8
    16. Kevin Huerter - 11.9, 3.3, 3.5
    17. Gary Trent Jr - 11.3, 2.6, 1.4
    18. Donte DiVencenzo - 10.4, 5.8, 3.1
    19. Lonnie Walker - 11.2, 2.6, 1.7
    20. Grayson Allen - 10.6, 3.2, 2.2
    21. Landrey Shamet - 9.3, 1.8, 1.6

  7. It will be interesting to see how the draft picks and free agents improve the various teams.

Detroit next year could be starting:  Cade Cunningham (20, 2021 #1 pick), Killian Hayes (20, 2020 #7 pick), Saddiq Bey (22, 1st team rookie), Jerami Grant (27, MIP candidate), Isaiah Stewart (20, 2nd team rookie).  Plus a handful of early 20s role players. They have the makings of an interesting team in a few years with that core.

Orlando could add Jonathan Kuminga (at #5) and Davion Mitchell (at #8) to jump start their rebuild, giving them two guards to add to their young bigs.

  8. I disagree with the Davion Mitchell thoughts above. I think he has a chance to be a really good NBA player. He is one of the best perimeter defenders I have ever seen at the college level. He is built like a tank and will be able to defend any point guard in the NBA from day 1.  I am really looking forward to seeing him match up with the likes of Trae Young, Curry, Chris Paul, etc.   The dude brings a lot of physicality despite being only 6'0.

And I appreciate that he doesn't have a GREAT offensive game yet, but he knows how to chose his spots. Last year he averaged over a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio and shot > 44% from 3 on almost 5 attempts per game. That is despite guarding the other team's best guard all the way out to half court.  That tells me he is exceptionally conditioned.  With players that committed to defense it is rare to get that level of control on the offensive end.

His usage last year was only ~20% and he still averaged 14 pts, 5.5 ast.  Give him Trae Young's 37% usage and you would see a lot different stats.

For me, his floor as a player is a Marcus Smart / Pat Beverly with better decision quality.  His ceiling would be maybe Jrue Holiday.  Or even a poor man's Chris Paul.  I wouldn't take him in the top-5, but I think he is a really safe pick beyond that. Given his competitiveness, defense and efficiency, I will be surprised if he doesn't have a 10+ year NBA career as at least a contributor.

  9. Well, I hunt occasionally. Shot a shotgun some as a kid. But nothing excessive. Went to maybe 30 concerts in my lifetime. They checked my hearing and it seems to be ok. Guess I will get it checked out.

  10. Yeah I left Luka off the #3s.  I don't see him pushing out prime Harden, MJ, Carmelo or Penny Hardaway.  Yet.

I like prime Ray Allen and Vince Carter over Trae Young at this point. Maybe not in a year.  De'Aaron Fox was also a #5 pick.

    I would rank like this...

    #3 > #2 > #5 > #13 > #6 > #7 > #4

The #3s are just too loaded. Literally everyone on that team can score.

I like the #2s next. They are loaded with winners and great defenders (3 DPoYs spanning front and backcourt plus ). Excellent distributors (Isiah averaged 13.9 apg!). Great scoring, but with some real junkyard dogs.  I would love to watch that team.

The #5s would be sick with Barkley and Garnett. Pippen and Wade would function a lot like Pippen / Jordan. And then Ray Allen bombing away. Maybe this team should be higher.

I think the #13s will continue to climb the ranks as Mitchell, Booker and LaVine keep improving.  Tough to decide between the #13s and the #6s.
