  1. I guess the difference is that with Durant and LBJ you could see it within a year or two as they made runs to the finals so early on. It was just a matter of time till they got one. With Giannis, I’m not sure he will get there.

The role guys on those great? 2016 and 2017 Cavs teams

I'm not sure I would call those teams "great".  They were about average as far as NBA Finals teams go IMO.

2016 - Cavs went 57-25 (0.695) in the regular season.  They would have probably lost 4-1 to the Warriors were it not for the Draymond nut punch.

2017 - Cavs went 51-31 (0.622) in the regular season.  Made it to the finals and lost 4-1 to the Warriors.

Regarding Giannis, I just don't think he makes others around him better. It is more about his style of play than anything else.  He also doesn't seem to have the ultra-elite basketball IQ that guys like LBJ, Durant, and MJ have. He doesn't seem to have a sense of the moment. Maybe that will come.

I'm surprised that people always seem to rate Giannis above Kawhi Leonard.  Kawhi can absolutely dominate a game on the defensive end... and then assassinate you on the offensive end.  By the time Kawhi was 26 yrs old, he had won TWO NBA DPoY awards, had won a title, had a Finals MVP, and had 2 1st Team NBA selections.  When Kawhi was 24-26, he was shooting 40.7% 3PT, 49.4% FG and 87.8% FT.

  3. I was in Orange Beach this last Wednesday-Friday.  I don't know if everyone got fat the last year or if all the fat people just decided to come out or if the fat people only come out during the week, but holy shit.  There were 300# people in bikinis.  Ratio of people not in danger of having heart attacks to those in danger of having them was 1:9

We stayed at a bunch of places in Hawaii over the last week. My observation was that in the higher end places the clientele were much fitter and less tatted. As the places got cheaper, we saw more tattoos and fatter people. Public beaches were the worst. Shocking, I know.

Mauna Kea on the Big Island was nice.

  4. Depth chart With the addition of Perryman and Benson:
    G Askew/Ramey/TBD
    G Jones/Febres/Perryman*
    G/F Allen/Tyson/Benson*
    F Bishop/Cunningham
    F Disu/TBD
I think they’ll add another big man, whether it’s Sims or another decent player who will fit in the top 8 of the rotation; that’s the only real need I see.  They may also take another walk-on or Sr. who can play PG. But otherwise I think they’re done.  They’ll carry 13 guys with 2 of those being walk-ons.
If that remaining big is the caliber of Sims or better, this is a Top 10 roster.

I don’t see Askew starting over Ramey. For me, Ramey, Jones and Allen are all starting and playing crunch time. The big question to me is which two of Askew, Bishop and Disu are in the closing 5.

I think it will be: Askew, Ramey, Jones, Allen and Disu. I realize that is smaller than what we are used to, but is it so different than what Baylor won the title with (height wise)?

  5. First time at Waikiki Beach and this place is pretty happening.

I’m guessing that shot is from the Hyatt Regency East Tower, directly across from my room in the West Tower where I’m typing this.

Also first time in Waikiki. Just stayed a night here after a week on the Big Island.

  6. Just for clarity, I wasn’t suggesting trading PG13 for Dragic, Conley or any of the other free agents. They are free agents. No need to trade for them. I suppose salary cap could be a problem.

  7. I get the hate for Kawhi, but he is a 2-time Finals MVP and 2-time Defensive Player of the Year.  In the right environment, I'm not sure I would would trade anyone for him except Durant or Curry.  And that includes LeBron at this stage of his career.

The problem is the Clippers aren't well constructed AT ALL.  They have too many similar pieces and glaring holes at other positions.  They need a point guard terribly.  Beverly and Rondo aren't gonna cut it.  Their 3rd best player is probably Marcus Morris.  That isn't going to get it done in the west.

If I were the Clippers, I would try to trade PG13 for a good point guard. Maybe De'Aaron Fox plus whatever salary necessary to make it work.  I think I might rather even have John Wall than PG13 on this particular team.

Chris Paul will be a free agent next year. Doubt he would want to go back to the Clippers. Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry are both available. Both are better than Rondo as a 1-2 year rental.  Lonzo Ball would be an upgrade.  Even Goran Dragic.

  8. Having a real crowd is sooooo much better than the fake piped in BS from the bubble last year. Home court advantage is going to be real this year. Plus fans are extra testy after missing it last year.

  9. We are going to the Big Island next weekend. I booked my rental car months ago using my corporate rate. Now I’m worried that it isn’t going to be honored. If not we will be screwed as we have to have a car given that we are staying in different spots all over the island.

Plus the need to take a covid test and risk failing is really hindering my anticipation of the trip. Could be awesome. Could be a shit show.

Assuming we make it there any tips? Was the night manta ray swim worth it? We are taking our 3 teenagers.

  10. Foreign is probably the wrong description for why I don’t like Giannis. Boring is probably better. His personality isn’t engaging and I hate his style of play. Kind of like Tim Duncan but way worse. Duncan leaned into his workman brand and it appealed to some people. Plus he was a huge winner, which helps. Giannis not so much.

  11. Jordan was an asshole but he was also cool af. His whole persona was cool. LeBron’s persona is crybaby.

Many of the biggest stars in the NBA right now aren’t that likable. LeBron = crybaby, Durant = snake, Kyrie = flat earther, Kawhi = Judas, Giannis = foreign, AD = boring, Harden = annoying, PG3 = playoff P, Westbrook = stat chaser, CP3 = asshole, Gobert = pandemic starter

IMO, the coolest guys in the NBA are Dame, Tatum, Curry, Luka, Zion. Maybe throw Jimmy Butler in there too. Klay when he’s healthy.

  12. •Oscar Robertson
    •Magic Johnson
    •John Stockton
    •Isiah Thomas
    •Chris Paul
    •Steph Curry
    •Jason Kidd
    •Steve Nash

    Magic
    Curry
    CP3
    Isiah
    Nash
    Stockton
    Kidd

Oscar Robertson (never saw him play)
  13. If he doesn't sign with an agent and doesn't like where he is picked, why can't he come back. Is it an NBA rule?

Lol cmon. Wouldn’t everybody do that every year if it was a possibility?
