Youth Minister's (and other pervs) Thread of Shame

repeatedly refers to drag queens/gays as 'things', doesn't understand why people think he should fuck off. alrighty. -
i mean yeah, there are areas where it's more prominent, where you'd expect - downtown and immediately adjacent areas mostly. the areas where there were 'tent rows' a year ago seem to have been cleaned out mostly though, the new mayor has done a few things that do seem to be working. the city seems pretty good about providing services and shelter for people like the immigrants Abbott keeps sending here - and that is actually something that you can pretty clearly see that is a bit different - there will be a family of immigrants panhandling on a corner or outside a store, versus a homeless vet or crackhead. i mean, for comparison, i lived in Wooten/Allandale vicinity in Austin, and nothing i have encountered in Denver has been any worse than spots like Burnet/Anderson, 183/Ohlen, Anderson/Mopac, etc. i will say driving down Colfax can be an adventure...'there's always something going down on Colfax!' haha. but again, not any worse than stuff you'd see around North Lamar/Runberg area. my hairdresser is across the street from a methadone clinic on Colfax, so there's usually some interesting characters hanging out there lol. i would say it's confined to certain areas - hanging out in the big parks like Washington Park or City Park, or the higher end neighborhoods, i've never encountered anybody or anything that made me feel unsafe. same with riding along Cherry Creek trail - i've taken it all the way down to Confluence Park before and not been bothered. in fact...the first time i did it i was expecting to run across all kinds of craziness based on NextDoor...which, yeah, i should have known better, b/c i didn't encounter anything lol. anyways...i'm no expert and my perspective is based on living where we did in Austin for 25+ years. i wouldn't walk down parts of east Colfax alone at night but i have no hesitation doing so in my neighborhood

yeah. we will get what we deserve. gotdammit. -
Wash Park is a gorgeous neighborhood! i love riding over there. same with Park Hill, Montclair, and Hilltop/Crestmoor neighborhoods... just beautiful areas. tbh i haven't spent too much time in the LoDo area, just when folks have visited, we've gone down to Union Station and walked around, spent time hanging out in Confluence and Commons parks. we only moved here two years ago so i don't know what it was like pre-covid...but i didn't find the area too trashy, no worse than Austin honestly. like, i've been down there by myself and felt safe. it's all in perspective and what you're used to i think.

Penelope Witherspoon's Travel Thread
mchookem replied to PenelopeWitherspoon's topic in Food and Travel
Lafayette's was gorgeous, loved the building. we had the oysters, corn chowder, fried chicken, truffle mac&cheese, a pork tenderloin dish and the lemon tarte for dessert. 😊 it was one of the more memorable meals of the trip (along with Trattoria Sostanza in Florence)...the oysters had some kind of frozen citrus topping that was just a flavor bomb! and i thought i didn't like truffle until this meal. couple of my pics match yours 😁 -

sigh. i want to go back. -
oh, re: healthcare/ getting old as GoLL rightfully mentioned... we have been more than impressed with the UCHealth system here. Anschutz is a teaching hospital and they are really cutting edge... i've had some heart issues and have been super impressed with the team. one of our friends here was diagnosed with colon cancer back in November and has been getting terrific treatment - cancer is gone six months later. so that's a positive as well.

yeah there are actual bike trails throughout Denver. i can ride from my house to Cherry Creek state park (about 10 miles) almost exclusively on trails and thru parks... then ride all over the state park and take a dip in the lake to cool off 😊 i kind of love that. i ride downtown, up to the wildlife refuge, all around my hood running errands... i'm pretty sure you could actually ride to Boulder, as you can see the bike trail running along side the highway most of the way there (too far for me lol). on the city streets there are bike routes and lanes pretty much everywhere by design (not just added later and crammed in). it just really feels like a city with individual neighborhoods designed for people to get outside and be active.

real talk...we obviously retired in Denver. truly love it. winters are a breeze, seriously (especially if retired and don't have to even leave the house on 'those' days lol). Cherry Creek is really nice...but Denver honestly has seemingly no end of fantastic neighborhoods, most of which are full of character and are truly pedestrian/bike friendly. we ride our bikes all over town. there are tons of parks throughout the city. the sunshine tropes are legit. i will say...it's not cheap. but what nice city is? you get what you pay for. COL is pretty comparable to Austin. the tax differences are negligible... there's a small income tax but that's more than made up for with low property taxes. but things like vehicle insurance and registration are high. some negatives to be real...grocery game (especially produce) sorely lacking. im a cook so that's a legitimate complaint from me lol. absolutely HORRIBLE drivers - aggressive, impatient, reckless... Austin drivers are bad in a 'lalala im not paying attention' kinda way... here they legitimately seem angry and trying to hurt you. it's got big city problems - traffic, homelessness, drug abuse, an ambivalent/hostile police force... but so did Austin. we miss our people/social circle, but otherwise no regrets.

i've always liked @RomaVicta's posts... but mocking and demolishing aggy ridiculousness RomVicta is by far best RomaVicta 😄🤘 -
my dad's pit bull Maggie (which he still insists is a 'lovable sweetheart' despite my horror story earlier in this thread re: her biting a little dog's face off, but sure, at least she's never shown any human aggression 🙄) gets in tussles with hogs regularly and comes back with gashes and big wounds, covered in blood, etc...can only imagine what the hogs look like 😧 hogs actually killed one of his other other dogs, a younger one...ripped his gut right open, he made it home, crawled under the house and died. i can't imagine what those fights look/sound like, what a nightmare! he keeps thinking Maggie 'will learn not to mess with them'...uh, yeah no, seems more likely she'll end up ripped open too. sounds like an absolutely horrible way to engage those creatures! ugh.

so Remar got busted for blow? bet he regrets that lol the most amazing thing about both Alien and Aliens is that 40 some odd years later the special effects, costumes, makeup and sets all remain absolutely stellar and do not show their age! maybe just a tiny bit in some of the wide external shots on LV426... but otherwise the effects are every bit as good if not better as any modern day CGI animation. it's really incredible. those movies will still be as good in another 50 years.

do they though? i mean... they keep electing these jagoffs, I kinda think they do deserve them. *shrugs*
