  1. Fuck that, it's Gus for OC. Serious splash hire recruits have heard of, should have a great impact on this class.
  2. Fucking agreed. never wanted assface as a coach, now I'm just pissed we have to deal with him for another year. If reports Fedora are moving on then he's not an idiot. I figured all staff replacements were already here and we would see Ash, Beaty and Fedora fill in as Tom really dug deep through his extensive coaching contacts. Either way, his buyout next year is going to increase after you add in all the guaranteed money we have to sign replacing half his staff.
  3. Ya, that connection probably led meh to think they had a certain level of trust, that he could be critical to his former boss and it would stay between them. Meanwhile, Ash is like, "I need a fucking job. I'll cut you." Meh sucks, but fuckhole hired him, and kept him, so he sucks at his job worse than meh.
  4. It's a popular opinion around here that he hires his buddies. I think he's just so inexperienced that he doesn't have much of a coaching circle to look at or lean on. His first HC gig lasted 2 years with 1 staff, and he brought them along to Texas. He's never fired an assistant, but look at his lack of experience. 2 years at first stop and in his 3rd year here. And who does he have to lean on, "mentors" and whatnot? Urban would probably be the #1 guy to call, you know, the guy you worked for who is the best college coach in the past half century not named Saban. He was actually asked the question about mentors, his reply? "Well, there Mack, Greg, Larry Fedora, and the wife. The circle is extremely small". I see the real problem is he has no idea who he should hire, he doesn't really know that many coaches, and he doesn't have anyone competent he can ask. In other words, he is completely unprepared for the job. Being a good playcaller and OC does not translate to being a good HC. Job #1 for a HC is hiring and maintaining great assistants.
  5. By multiple recruiting services we are the composite #9 team talent ranking for both 4 and 5 years. Its fairly indicative of where teams rank with only FSU and aggy matching our failure to produce results in line with our talent.
  6. Is Harbaugh related to Al Bundy?
  7. Mensa/conspiracy level theory: good recruiters should be far more abundant and easier to find than really, really good coaches. Ones who do both are rare. rebuilding a dumpster fire can be accomplished by bringing in a shit load of talent or bringing is a great coaching staff. if you bring in a great coaching staff ala Matt rhule, ~3 years and you're winning big, recruiting will start to pick up steam. If you bring in great recruiters and stock the roster with blue chips for ~3 years, then bring in really good coaches....Profit OR insecure narcissist who is also a very very inexperienced HC, brings the only coaches he really knows. He's in so far over his own head that he's frozen into inaction, he constantly checks his bank account online because hes amazed the checks keep coming.
  8. So that means at least 2 coaches are leaving after our game, let the speculation begin
  9. The best coach in the past 40 years not named Saban is sitting on the sidelines for 1 year. Yeah he's probably a narcissist and an asshole. But you are one of a handful of teams that could get him (I think you can add a few more, probably 10 or so) You have to at least reach out and talk possibilities. he will take the call. If not for an extension Tom is likely coaching for his job Friday if it hasn't already been decided to move on. Every single aspect of the program has fallen into shambles outside recruiting and that rope is fraying. with contracts these days letting 10 mil be the deciding factor in not hiring Urban would be incredibly dumb.
  10. His particular coaching fraternity is extremely small, he basically said so himself. When asked about coaching mentors he can talk to, he mentioned Mack who had an office down the hall, Fedora who is on staff, GDGD lolwtf, and his wife. The circle is extremely small, his words. The best bridge he had is burned, Meyer could probably offer up some damn good advice from the outside looking in and no distractions like his own team to coach. And he might just be a good resource or for an introduction to potential assistants. I believe job #1 is hiring/replacing/firing good coaches, and he fucking sucks at that. Being good at Xs and 0's does not translate into being good at hiring first among a metric ton of other duties as HC of a big program. He doesn't have enough friends and contacts in the coaching world and he sucks at hiring/firing so I personally do not trust him.
  11. Yep, and too bad del conte didn't just say "fuckface has my full and complete support, along with that of the university". Because that's what ADs say right before they drop the axe.
  12. This 100%. He's got all his pieces in place and I would be shocked if he brings in anyone else. He adds Fedora and Ash, with Beaty possible also. Let's 3 guys go at very most. More likely 2. 2021 will end up being another transition class He absolutely should be fired and replaced with the mercenary who will hold this class together and bring us a top class in 2021. But that would be too smart a move for us.
  13. From a money, talent, recruiting, and prestiege perspective there's only a handful of jobs that could expect to hire Urban at this point in his career. fOSU is out for obvious reasons. Bama, Dome, LSU are locked up for now. UM? Not yet. OU should be locked up for the foreseeable future except the Riley NFL speculation. USC probably the most likely, but their decision making isn't much better than ours UT will wait until he's off the market, completely fuck it up and probably end up hiring yet another former assistant. Super hot chick just got out of a bad relationship and really really wants us to take her home. But we are too busy fucking all her skanky friends because we're dumb. What other programs could reasonably expect to have a chance?
  14. He's done here, it's just a shame he will get another year before we make the change--because that's how we do shit around here. i mean, we obviously have a thing for Urban, we tried his DC, then his OC, and now the man himself is available for the next couple months or less. Add me to the growing camp that thinks OU gets Urban after Riley goes to the NFL. Only it's somewhere else because Jerry keeps Ginger another year. Fuck
  15. On ESPNU 84 whoever the 2 guys were said "Herman is your worst nightmare." And then talked briefly about the head butting before having one of those long, raucous laughs that ends in tears and a complete hahahaha..ahhhhh moment. They think he is funny as shit, and not in a good way.
  16. 247 team composite shows UT at 7 on talent at hand. Overall it's indicative of where a team should be ranked, with a few under and over achievers. UT is by far the biggest underachiever followed by USC. Overachievers include usual suspect Wisconsin and then Minnesota and Baylor. Theres talent here and a machine that can recruit in the middle of the most fertile recruiting bed to keep it going and improve, there has been a criminal lack of development and actual coaching based on dollars paid and results going on a decade. Do you consider yourself to be at the top of your field, or at least very fucking good at what you do? If I were a football coach, UT would be on my very short list of places I would want to go and whip people's asses.
  17. Call shanahan and offer 5yr/$50M and get his opinion.
  18. You are caught up on minutiae, the extension wasn't a bad move to show program support and stability. Tom shit the bed this year so it looks bad in hindsight, but it can't be said he wasn't give all the tools and support needed to succeed. Where you are mistaken is the belief that a $10M buyout increased to $20M means much. CDC will be the guy who fires Tom, but the decision to do so will come from those footing the bill.
  19. Everyone forgets the forgettable Chiz! Member of the 2 and under crew.
  20. This. the buyout is the easy part, it's just money and it's ready to go. To put that in perspective for surlyites, say the buyout is 20k. How long do you think we could raise that buyout here? How many on here whould go ahead and write that check themselves? Politics. No c/r
  21. That's pretty incredible when you look at it, 17 years as a HC, only twice has he lost 4 or 5 games. 2 perfect seasons and 6 seasons with only 1 loss. Basically half his career as HC. So Herman has 5 years, 4 of them with 4 or more lossses? Yeah, he's not the guy.
  22. Well, I think God is a Longhorn, sunsets. Can we not form a church based on that belief? And great joy is to be had on Saturdays watching our congregation playing football, all expenses and family paid for of course. Tax exempt as well.
  23. Like hire Meyer late tonight and let him walk in Monday and fire Herman? Wonder if he would offer him the OC position, that would be poetic.
