I was also there, and your statement is incorrect. There were definitely bottles, cans, and cups raining down into the endzone at that game, but it was in response to (I believe) a roughing the passer penalty near the end of the game after one of our defenders hit Jim Druckenmiller. Shouldn't have happened, but it wasn't done just because we were playing poorly.

It was on their last TD of the game, a strip/sack TD of James Brown. Their defensive player was celebrating, perhaps even doing the dreaded horns down in the EZ full of our fans…

Question for the 110,000 there without tickets for the game: What the fuck were you thinking?

That they can walk right the fuck in at halftime with nobody giving a flying fuck…

You say that like it's a bad thing. I've seen us win plenty of games over the years we didn't deserve to win. I'm perfectly fine with every single one of them.

It didn't happen here, but I would have been perfectly fine with it if it did.

Same here man; I don’t GAF is we ‘deserve’ it or not, I’ll take the W. It was miraculous that, as much as we were getting outplayed, with a minute left in the 3rd quarter we could have gotten the ball back down by a TD…

QE played like shit there isn’t a player or coach on offense that should be allowed to go free on this. Abysmal performance. QE was scared and his coach fed off that too. Sark’s job is not to be terrified when a 20 something player is. I saw that terrified look in QE’s eyes and thought oh no. I saw that terrified look in sark’s eyes and knew we were in deep shit. The thing is when you panic you can’t think. Sark’s job is to solve the problem. He couldn’t he was scared shitless too.

    Overdramatic much?

Nah the team scored it was the following drive where I knew they would win, where they had that 3rd and long but converted DKR was loud as fuck before that.

Yeah that 3rd and 10 followed by the 40 yard double reverse flea-flicker ended our chance to win a game we didn’t really deserve to win….

I think you spent a pittance at the beginning of the year ($300?) for a season pass to all sporting events, but then you had to do a lottery thing to get the actual seat for football.

It wasn't popular. We'd sucked for a while and would continue to until Mack showed up.

This was my first year in grad school. The all-sports pass was like $85 (up from $58 my freshman year) but there were no guaranteed seats at all - you had to queue up and they distributed tix until they were gone, and they were completely random. You could be the first guy in line and get shit seats or the last guy and sit down low on the 45…

  7. I hear you man, and in the end (thankfully) none of this shit matters for us this year and hopefully for the foreseeable future. I’m still just scarred from 25+ years of barely-.500 SEC teams losing to each other and staying ranked, beefing up all of their strength of schedules.

Why?  with imbalances in conference schedule you could have a 1 loss acc or big 12 team that plays like two top 25 teams all year and an SEC or big 10 team that plays like 7 ranked teams.  You telling me you value 11-1 from the first over 10-2 or 9-3 in the second?  Why?  It makes no empirical sense.

If you want to turn it all over to the computers I'm fine with that. Put a 35 point MOV cap on the model- make every team play all their games against D1 - bowl division if they are still calling it that and let them tell you who the best teams are, if you really want to go with some sort of "fairness" test.

    It just means more!!!!!!!

We chuggin’ this cheese-grit Kool-Aid already?

I can't imagine that the aggy/LSU game isn't prime time with it being basically a DeFacto potential elimination game for the SEC title appearance(neither team is getting in if they lose IMO) and it's 2 high profile team.

But with Vandy's run and beating Bama...everyone will want to see them take on #1 Texas(if we win this weekend of course.

They need to do away with guaranteed seedings.  Yes a conference Title and being the highest ranked Non G5 team guarantees you a spot int the playoffs, but it should not for seeding. That should go directly off the rankings/committee.  No reason a 3/4 loss Big 12 or ACC team should be 4 and a 1 loss team be 5 just because they play in a tougher conference IMO.

Agree that a 3-4 loss champ shouldn’t be seeded higher, but if two teams have one loss then the ACC/B12 champ (in that scenario) should get the nod over the beauty contest…

Congrats on your 5 trips. I’ve been 30 times. It’s a piece of shit stadium that is nowhere close to some stadiums of its vintage. I’m not talking about amenities. I’m not talking about lacking respect for the fucking game. I’m talking very specifically about the venue that is falling apart and has zero ingress and egress. It’s terrible and it’s absolutely not sustainable. Try not to create too many more strawmen before your 6th visit.

Congrats on your 30 times. I’ve been to every game since 1984 save the Covid year. You’re a fucking jerkoff, and always have been.

I'm not as wedded to the stadium as I am a D/FW neutral site + 50/50 seating.  That said, fuck the Okies for always getting the tunnel.

Fuck that entire side of the stadium, including the fucking tunnel….

Back when he still had his store on the drag in the mid 70's, when DKR was still coach, my mom would take my brother and I there to get some UT stuff in preparation for going to a game.  My folks were never too interested in football, but my dad's younger sister was dating some big whig at KIKK radio down in Houston who was an Arkansas grad.  Super nice guy who somehow always had great west side tickets right in the middle of the blue hairs.  Mom would always take us there the week of the Arkansas games to get us set up.  That set up petered out in the late 70's even though my aunt still dated they guy, but man that was fun, especially after my brother and I started playing in the middle school band. We were so in awe of LHB.

The year after Earl's Heisman, mom got us set with two team autographed footballs from Roosters, that was the '78 team.  I remember that I secretly, not so secretly added my autograph somewhere in the middle of the signatures and I would pretend I was on the team.  Still have the football.

Somewhere back in my memory, I think I met Rooster on one of those first trips back in the mid 70's.  I don't think my mom had any idea who he was.

Later, when I was in school, and after Rooster had moved his campus store north,  I went into the store to get some running shorts and was helped by a good looking gal that I was trying to chat up.  I had planned on some suave moves at the register, but Rooster butted in and took over the payment.  Rooster was so nice and friendly, but I still gave him the Tommy Lee Jones look as much a guy who was 6' tall could, to an old man who was 4'-11".  I really had to stoop and get those eyeballs up.  He had a shit eating grin on his face like he knew what I was doing the whole time.

I made it back to his store only one other time and that was to get me a pair of the first generation Nike AIR MAX running shoes.  No Rooster on that final time.

I'm not sure when he moved his campus store, but by the looks of it is was in the early 80's.  Funny how that move coincided with what would be the end of a dominant era in Texas football.  By 1985 the football program was sagging, the Texas economy was in the tank and would be for another decade, much of the University could have used some upgrades, and it was very obvious to me, at the time, that UT was laving on its past glories.

Epilogue: Ended up making the LHB, played '85-'88 , and watched a lot of shitty football.

Same as my undergrad years; UT administration was definitely not in ‘build and repair’ mode during that time. Most of those racquetball/handball courts in Gregory could have housed a meth lab and not looked out of place…

So if I get there around 9:30 will there be parking inside the fair or need to get there a little earlier?

You’ll be fine parking in the fair park lot at 9:30 for a 2:30 kick, though you’re going to be way the fuck at the back of the lot.

I was more confident last year going into the RRS than any I can remember. After attending 30+ of these in person, you would think I would know better.

As brutal as the QE turnovers were, the defense really shit the bed. Gabriel killed us time and again with his scrambling, Ran for 100+ that day when he only ran for something like 350 yards total the entire season. And then the secondary breakdowns on that last drive were just gut wrenching. So many self-inflicted wounds. This team should have a really bad taste in their mouth from last year. I know I do.

I agree with every single word of this…

What’s the best way to get out as quickly as possible? I’d love to stay around, but have to get home by 7.

Assuming home is somewhere Dallas-area, I would park in the hood east of the stadium and take Haskell/Military Parkway all the way to 635. Anything at all going west or north from the fairgrounds will be a complete clusterfuck. It’s not the most direct route but at least you’ll be moving.

It opened at 7 AM in 2017. I looked at the timestamp of some pictures on my phone from that year. Have one from inside the fair at 7:39 AM.

Yeah it opened way, way before 10AM that year. I have pics at 9:17 and was well into it at that point…

I kind of think on that first pass they were just hoping to burn us or get lucky with a PI. The other two plays were dumb

Why? If they’d run the ball on 2nd and 3rd down we’d have stopped the clock after each play, meaning they’d have been punting in exactly the same situation. We’d have had one timeout instead of three but that didn’t matter; we got the ball with 7 seconds left, the other two timeouts didn’t mean shit.
