  1. Perhaps he will do well in the more subordinate position. Some people just don't handle positions of power very well and yet do just fine lower down in the structure. There was a guy where I work that (after he was promoted) had so many people refuse to work with him, that he was "offered the option" of transferring to... Chicago! His other option was to be fired.
  2. Not sure, I was 18 and trying to suppress a full gut laugh while this guy told the sad story. I likely missed some details!
  3. In '79 you could take "Interpersonal relationships", "Drugs in our society", and "History of rock and roll". Sex drugs and R&R. I.R. didn't give the help I was seeking in uhhhh, getting what I was interested in. Drugs in our society was a scared straight experience. History of R&R was fun. Guy sitting next to me in class explained that he hated "The Doors" because his best friend in H.S. suffered brain damage after being hit by a trash truck and loved "The Doors". End of rambling reminiscence.
  4. Do you really think that would be an option for an AD anywhere? Ridiculous. Donors know other donors. AD's that want to stay employed spend a lot more time trying to get more donations and listening to donors than telling them to fuck themselves.
  5. I honestly don't recall that, if you could give the reference and tell us, did we lose that game by one possession? Pretty easy to find. It's in court records and numerous threads. Lot's of speculation on your part. Chuckles was 3-6 in conference in his LAST year and you try to put that on Mack? Weak. Mack has likely forgotten more about football than Chuckles the clown ever knew. (Including the NAME of his QB!) Mack is in the College Football HOF, what are Chuckles chances of getting in without paying the $20 or so to take a tour?
  6. Is there anything Mack or Herman did that is even in the same universe as NOT BEING ABLE TO NAME YOUR STARTING QB? Or the coin flip, Or the clock management, or the loss to KU. Nope, and Chuckles did all those things with no effect from "the way Mack left the program".
  7. Seems like for some reason you WANT Charlie to NOT be remembered as the worst coach in Texas history. I don't think you can influence that. He will clearly be remembered that way based on his record, game management, glaring loss Kansas, and a bowl game performance that looked like we fielded a H.S. team. If anything is mitigating, it would be having Patterson as your A.D. But the buck stops with Charlie. I would bet no. If he did, I would think maybe the firing had taught him a valuable lesson. (so, no). Unless the firing has taught him some valuable lessons(so, no), his ego will make it hard for him to take anything less than a HC position (no).
  8. I'm pretty sure if your piss is that color you're a "bad teammate"!
  9. Well, I'm sure it depends on individual perspective but were we not ,generally speaking, at least as desperate to get rid of Charlie? I know I was. And as glad as I am that "he who will not be named" is gone, at least he was better than Charlie.
  10. Of course there was desperation. You describe it yourself, it is the nature of a desperation decision to ignore red flags. If Charlie would have been fired mid-season, as he should have been, then Mike would have had more time and more candidates to choose from.
  11. Nobody is as desperate as we were when we needed to ditch Charlie, but give them time.
  12. 18 days now and still like the thread title. I can see how the players might think a coach (Charlie or name not to be mentioned) was fired too early. However, from the "overhead view" (be it right or wrong) It looked like the air was going out of the program. And it wasn't like it had been running at wide open throttle for some time. Three more years with (name not to be mentioned) would have put this thing back in the ditch it was in with Charlie here. As for the events of the off season, if you really care about your people and take care of them, do you really need marches and koombyah campfires to tell them? I don't think so. I think that was a big difference between programs where the coach actually builds a relationship with his players and what we have had the last 4 seasons.
  13. I think we are overdue for have the "challenge of success" as a problem, I am more than ready!
  14. I'm under the impression that Coach Sarkisian isn't wasting any time. As you mentioned they were probably on the fence, but apparently nothing has happened to make them want to stay. I feel okay with that. Get someone here that wants to be here even if it means (the horror) of singing with the fans after the game.
  15. What? You think I should have bought it? And I thought someone might pick up on the embedded clues in the story.
  16. I am actually happy to see a few guys hitting the door. It has already been made clear to them what is expected and they clearly want no part of it. This is a good and necessary part of the rebuild. It's good to open up space for those that want to be here and will work at. It's also good for those who "self purge" to find a place that works for them.
  17. Back about 2001 or so we were house hunting, was shown a house that needed a good bit of work. Had some minor signs of rain water getting to a few places it shouldn't but otherwise sound. Problem was, it was a total redo on the inside. It wasn't trashed, but a lot of stuff fell into the "kinda cool, but not really what I want" catagory (think bright yellow Ferrari, yes I know but I would still want red). I remember thinking I had never seen a black toilet in a house before, and the black and gold tile work with doric columns made it more of a throne room than a bathroom. The two stone lions out front were also very interesting and kinda cool, but again just something I'd have removed. They were absolutely desperate for an offer, even after I said I wouldn't make one they called back three times. Clearly I could have gotten the house for 60% of value if I had wanted the ensuing project. In one of those call backs they told me that the owner was a former NFL player that would take any offer. He also was an OU guy. (Without knowing it they made it even less attractive). Don't know when it happened but the new owners came in with a crane and got the stone lions out of there. Hopefully they took out the throne room about the same time.
  18. If you're talking about the CDC (Tom Herman is our coach) statement. I never took at (nor do I see in it) specific language as to how long Tom Herman is our coach. These statement come out all the time, and even though they are sometimes successful in quelling the level of speculation, they almost always have an extremely short shelf life. I tend to take things at face value, but with this kind of stuff you can't do that unless it says "Tom Herman will be our coach for the upcoming 2021 season". That's why your retirement and lawsuit documents look the way they do!
  19. I just don't grow tired of seeing the thread title. That said, it does make me a bit sad that we were actually better under Tom (who seems to have been an unlikeable douche) than we were under Charlie (who seemed to be a good guy).
  20. If true he should have been fired as soon as it was known.
  21. Well, Bijan was one of his inner circle and a lot of the other guys were seeing significant playing time for the first time due to guys quitting before the game. So I'm not sure the bowl game or even K St.was a good measure. They sure as hell didn't play with their hair on fire several times during the year.
  22. It is, IMHO, no more complicated than this, in any decision major or minor the group of CDC, Eltife, and Hartzell are going to work better, see the issues more clearly and keep their thoughts to themselves better than (the asshole)Patterson, Cigarroa and Powers.
  23. I respectfully disagree. Good luck to him, yes. I will even wish him growth and maturity. However, for any player to insist to be the only one at his position for a recruiting cycle, be more interested in things other than football to the extent that you don't perform well, and TELL RECRUITS TO GO ELSEWHERE because you are not getting EVERYTHING you want. Well, that makes you locker room cancer, and the quicker you can leave the better. I hope he grows and matures, but the path he is on will not end well unless he does. Him hitting the transfer portal is one of the positive markers I was looking for in our renewed program. So glad he has chosen to leave.
  24. The off season is now interesting, Tom Herman is gone, I don't have to hear "winning is hard", I don't have to hear "the definition of insanity", I know I will take my season tickets, Tom Herman is gone, I anticipate less "one possession" games, I feel pretty good about Coach Sark so far. These are the things I'm happy about in 2021 so far. Oh yeah, and we should start beating back the whole Covid thing.
