  1. So, while we're at it with songs. What about songs with the N word in them. If we're even taking about these hurt feelings over something none of these students has ever experienced first hand, shouldn't there be a purge of all songs that have direct denigrating lyrics? Should students with that music on their iPhone or found to have streamed it on Spotify face punishment?
  2. It almost seems like the unstoppable force against the immovable wall. The money they will lose by not having a season is about the only thing driving them forward (but it's a powerful force). Then you have the $'s they will lose if they get their collective butts sued off by spreading a known pathogen and killing some folks. I still can't wait to see how they will handle the Club/Suite/VIP situation. I don't know about the rest of them, but the Centennial Suite is connected to the HVAC on the 8th level. One sick guy in there and you could wipe out a large chunk of our "donations".
  3. Well, my path was my path. She has to chose hers. And yes the schools do sell themselves. If it's a match, place where they can prosper and grow, then okay I'll write the check. Still, pretty happy the way it turned out. It's another story, but I did laugh when she described the tour of Tech as "a sad little tour". I called it one farris wheel shy of Chernobyl .
  4. My daughter wanted to see a lot of the Universities to help her decide where she should go. My wife was going to do the A&M trip, so I booked them two rooms in the "Aggy hotel" (Yes, the one that sits 60 yards from a live railroad track). All is well until other daughter breaks her arm (badly) requiring surgery. Much better for mom to stay home, so off we go to Collie Station. We check in, walk around the campus and talk. I laugh about "Rudder tower" and explain to her that our Vet in Austin when I was a kid was one of the "old ags" that wanted Rudder dead, since he allowed women in and allowed students to not be in the corps, now their "main building" is named after him. She was shocked that they had spent money to have a scoreboard on their stadium pet cemetery. I told her of Sul Ross, Governor, Texas Ranger, President. of A&M, War Criminal. Next morning we're on the tour, fairly standard stuff. With a coupe of exceptions, The tour at A&M is more like an hour and a half, where most places keep it to about 45 minutes. A percentage of the folks on the tour are obviously going to send their kid to A&M and ONLY A&M. Instead of trying to soak in the good and the bad, instead of going as a family and letting the kid choose their path, it was a strange vibe. More of a "look at your great new school Jr.!" The tours at A&M are less interactive and more of the guide having to stand on an exact spot and recite the 5 lines from a memorized flash card. Soooo, we end up at the statue of "Sully", I'm more or less numb to all the blather at this point. But I do notice the tour guide tells of what a great guy he was, Governor, Ranger and President of A&M, No reference to the Civil War. My daughter turns and looks at me, with a look that is clearly "aren't you going to say something dad?". I believe my slight head shake told her "no freaking way". The tour had people of all races, and I wouldn't straighten this place out if I could. Ultimately, it was the concept of "midnight yell" and the tour guide trying to have a "mini yell practice" in front of the statue of E. King Gill that put the nail in their coffin with my daughter. I told her wherever you go to school, you should be a part of the experience. She said going to a midnight yell practice when she might have a paper to write was "stupid". I didn't disagree with her. When the tour guide went through all of the different "class yells' and told all of the prospective students to do the freshman yell, my daughter turned to me and said "I'm no longer a prospective student". It came down to Trinity, TCU, and UT. She starts at UT in the Fall.
  5. And how hard of a locker room speech is that. "Okay guys while the world is wrapped around their own axel, we are going to focus on football and winning and turning each and every one of you guys into NFL millionaires. When we get that work done you will have the world by the tail and you can "change the world" more than our friends down in Austin ever dreamed of. You will have a full and meaning full life, while they will be lucky to be a footnote, now let's get to work."
  6. The shingles vaccine isn't exactly a walk in the park. Two rounds 30-60 days apart if I remember correctly. You feel like you have the flu for a couple of days, not good but better than the horror stories of the shingles.
  7. Some real aggy intellect on display there. I bet Thanksgiving is a hoot around your family.
  8. That seems to be a bit over the top. Kids choose schools for a host of reasons. Don't get me wrong... F aggy as an institution, I'm just not into calling out a kid on his school choice.
  9. I now think there is a 60% chance that Tom won't be the head coach next year, and I wouldn't have a problem with it. Could he catch lightning in a bottle with his new coaching staff, sure. Odds are they will be close to what we had before plus or minus a bit. Covid -19 and now all of the non-football stuff going on. I just doesn't seem like football is or has been the focus. I bet it's the focus in Tuscaloosa, Norman, Columbus and Baton Rouge. Since he got here we have been better, but for every sign that we are about to get out of the slump, there is sign that it's going the other way. This will be my 51st year of going to Texas football games, so I'd really enjoy being wrong.
  10. Roma, I made no such declaration. I actually did the opposite. I said I would never sing it again if it would make any difference. And by that I mean a real substantive difference. It is unfortunate that, the guys who put this forward have hurt their case for things that actually would make a difference. My perspective is, that either way this goes, the net result toward any real progress is zero. Again, I respect your opinion, but I never said that.
  11. Nice job, you tried to remain "inclusive" while trying to paint me as something I'm not. I've been respectful of your views I would expect the same of you. Back to the point, I don't see "the Eyes" the same way you do (not that you would like to be inclusive of my view). "A stick in a disgraceful quilt" clever, but untrue. And yes, I would gladly stop singing it if doing so would change anything or save a single life. It won't, unhappy people will always be unhappy. Nothing you do will change that. Rooster Andrews drew the logo and he gladly played on a segregated team. To me that seems equally as damning as this gossamer thin case against "the eyes". BTW I fully support anyone that doesn't want to sing it for any reason.
  12. Wish we were back to the old discussions of depth charts, new coaches etc. I wonder what they are thinking about their clubs and suites. I'm pretty sure the suites and clubs share their HVAC. Probably not a great plan to kill off a bunch on your biggest donors.
  13. I'm sure many book burners took the same view. "We now see these books through a new and more nuanced lens, so they must go. Since we now have a totally perfect view of (the subject, the manner in which it was presented, the non perfect nature of author, fill in the blank). This (book, statue, song) must be purged for all time!" Having your feelings hurt, by the way a song was presented over 100 years ago or by the Jewish linage of an author are childish at best. But be assured these are the same old human impulses in both cases. Moving back to football as a topic, we are about to get our asses handed to us this season. If I were an OU fan I'd be laughing my ass off at the lack of focus on football. As such I believe this will be Tom's last year.
  14. I always wondered how a mob could work themselves up to the point of believing that burning books with a certain history or by a certain group of authors changed anything. Now I'm seeing it up close, but it still adds no clarity.
  15. No murder, no murder coverup, no rape, no rape coverup. I give it about a 6.8 on the Baylor scale.
  16. I hope Brennan plays, but if he feels like he shouldn't for any reason I respect it. I'm not sure what he will achieve, or what he thinks it could achieve but it's his life and his call. Also, I sure don't want him or anyone else getting injured because their head (or heart) is not in it.
  17. From your avatar I can practically hear your post in Abe's voice.
  18. Early on the news stories were saying the Chinese were having so much trouble BECAUSE they were heavy smokers. It's an interesting anomaly, but I don't think I'm ready to pick up some cigars just yet. Best of luck to you and your mom Lobo, keep her safe.
  19. Left that one out, along with the "It will have killed me by then " option!
  20. Let's set the parameters as, football will be played. Normal season as scheduled. You have to wear a mask, take it off and you get tossed. Do you go?
  21. You bring back a memory. My 4th grade teacher was Scooter Monzingo's mom. I think he showed up one day for our class as well. One of the guys in my class was being raised an Aggie and would even go on to play for them. But since this was '70-'71 and Texas was on top of the world, even he thought it was pretty cool.
  22. We're screwed! Get used to living with "Murder Hornets" in your yard.
