  1. I assume the take from the championship game gets split amongst the 10 teams otherwise we could talk them into rotating the game through the various stadiums in the conference. Like the pros, you would know that this year's championship game is in Kansas or Iowa or Austin. Let each school get to play host. It would always be in a college stadium (albeit sometimes a freezing ass cold one). I'm betting the folks in Iowa wouldn't charge me $73 to park, and even with fewer seats, Pretty sure they wouldn't charge me $30 for two really bad BBQ sandwiches either. When I retire, wife has mentioned going to every game and not just home + OU, I'm thinking that's a plan. Jerry world is comfy, it's about a half hour from my house. Modern facility with plenty of bathrooms and egress from the stadium itself is pretty easy. That's about as kind as I can be. The traffic in and out is bad, and the in-game experience is not college-friendly. Let's email the Big XII and Mr. Del Conte (he will call you back) and suggest rotating between the schools. Anybody with me?
  2. And Mack started his tenure with Ricky.
  3. I enjoyed the hell out of this season, we found ways to win, fought back when down, beat OU, beat the wizard at his castle, need I go on? Do I want more? Hell yes, but we were in HORRIBLE shape when the cake was supposedly baked. I'll take this year and the trend line that is shows. We had to crawl our way out of the WORST THREE YEAR PERIOD IN TEXAS FOOTBALL HISTORY! Two years ago we lost to freaking Kansas, it's going to take a while to wash of that stank. This season is a big step in that direction.
  4. Hook 'em! And good luck to all wanting to get in.
  5. I've learned from the last 10, seems like no time since they were 8 and 6. I think it's more a case of getting comfortable with being "Daddy", then you just become "Dad". The way it works, but still.
  6. Section 6 Row 58 with my parents and my bride of 2 years. DKR probably was never louder. Beating UCLA late in like 70 +/- was probably close (long pass late to Cotton Spyer and an interception to seal the deal), Tearing Houston a new one in 90 (I think) was in there too.
  7. I bought foundation tickets for the Nebraska :01 game. I don't remember what my priority is, but it's pretty high. Got tickets in the end zone, not too good. Did get a nice view of the game winning kick going through the uprights on the other end, but still. Youngest daughter asked if we were going and I decided what the heck, it's not like she will still want to go with me in a few years (16 now). Soooo, I'm in 232 cuz' I'm not sitting in the end zone again. And since I've taken it in the shorts for two tickets, I paid for parking in one of the stadium lots. What the hell... I'll never spend enough time with my kids to make me think I've had enough, I'll never see enough Texas football to make me think I've had enough. Now I get both of those and a chance to see us beat OU twice in one year!
  8. And those were some pretty sizeable mics in 1895.
  9. Nope, for the very reason you cite. The overall talent on campus at the end of Mack's tenure was mediocre and would have dwindled fast as recruiting continued to collapse. Mack would have had losing seasons the same as Charlie and there would have been even less in the cupboard when Herman or someone else finally took over. Mack did a lot for Texas, but his time was up and nothing good would have come from dragging that dead horse around any further. I don't know, I'm thinking better (some) clock management and better (some) special teams. Maybe don't make a complete game plan of handing off to a running back with a broken hand (even GDGD knew better) and we beat Kansas in '16? If you can't tell, I'm more pissed off at Charlie than I am at Mack. As for what I'd say to him, how about thanks for all the 10 + win seasons and the natty! I'll probably never know what the inside story was at that point. But as bad a Mackovick was, he looks like a football God compared to Charlie.
  10. I know some of the complaints here about Mack, and many of them are justified. I personally would have rather kept Mack for another 3 years than have gone through the Charlie Strong era. I do believe Charlie would have done better with a real A.D. instead of that ass clown Patterson, but still.
  11. So how many times are we going to let Sam throw/overthrow with a hurt shoulder?
  12. WTF- Child molesters, wife beaters, turning a blind eye/enabling rape, not rendering aid to a person in obvious distress. I love college football, but damn this getting to be a lot of baggage. I was offended by Dirty Jackie FedExing $100 bills around to cover up his previous dirty doings, now that seems like small potatoes.
  13. You left out the part about 1st and 2nd down ALWAYS being up the middle!
  14. Married a girl I almost wouldn't date. She's hot, funny, but then I found out she was from NorCal. I'm thinking great she's probably a radical Lib, doesn't shave her armpits and eats granola every meal (as others have said, a man's gotta have a code). Take her out to TexMex and she likes it, tell her some jokes and she laughs instead of thinking of how it offends Aggys. We get married late October but on a Sunday (she gets it). Next year her sister is getting married in NorCal and we are playing Rice. Without me saying a word, she tells me to go to the game and she will tell her family that I had to work. At that point, I was certain that this marriage was going to last. Eight years after that she buys me a ticket to the NC game in L.A. and says "I don't really have time to go, but you have a good time". Now up to 22 years. There were times in my life when I thought I would just end up single, oh did I luck out.
  15. Listmaker lost me at 9. I go to a bar for the beer selection, I go the game to watch the game. To each their own, not embarrassed by the hell raisers but they do look laughable.
  16. Sent An email to Mr. Del Conte asking if we could get back to one-stop shopping for Foundation/Tickets/Parking instead of having to come back to (Patterson's) parking page. Sent me back a reply the next day telling me "he has folks looking into it". I was favourably impressed, in the past, I would get no answer or some non-answer from a flunky when I asked a question.
  17. Since the NEZ and field turf additions the first couple of games of every season have seemed hotter and less breeze getting down into the stadium. Doubt this would be much worse, since Godzilliatron is a huge wind break/heater. Not going to make it any better though. It's my feeing that the field turf holds the heat better than natural, and at least that could be fixed. Light breeze through the stands is gone forever.
  18. This week. Was born and raised in Austin back when it was a truly great town and not "weird".
  19. Also a good point, nothing in Austin is carved in stone... it's carved in the emotion of the day.
  20. I think he was referencing the "developer dropping in a high rise" comment.
  21. In total agreement. I gave a few 3's where I felt more apathy was due. Also used the opportunity to slam the non stop babble of the jumbotron, and handing the mic to anyone who screams at dog whistle frequencies (Holly). Also gave honorable mention to the folks that now show up in (at least in Sec. 6) to just get plastered and miss the game anyway. (The paramedic calls distract from the game.) Starting to give serious consideration to changing from 4 seats in Sec. 6 to 2 seats in one of the clubs... or an RPG to Godzillatron.
