  1. Same. Also off Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and no more subscriptions to NY or LA times. I haven't watched news of any kind on TV for a couple of years now. But honestly, my reflexive opening up Surly every 15 mins is a problem. I'll go through periods where I intentionally avoid DT (board for culture issues)and CR (politics and culture issues) but I lack the self control to really stay away. The nights when I'm on my couch with a book are ALWAYS so much more enjoyable than the phone, but I lack the discipline
  2. Play a game. Replace Trump with Obama. Imagine Obama being asked about what we can do to stop violence from both sides. What would he say? Would he say "well, The radicals on the left often times are radical because they don't want to see oppression.. They don't want to see inequality. Worried about equal rights. They're saying, We don't want our freedom to marry who we want disrupted. We don't want you taking away Trans rights to exist. We don't want you shooting our people in the middle of the street," "The radicals on the right are the problem," Obama continued, "and they're vicious and they're horrible. And if Obama did say that, how would you, as a person on the right, interpret that?
  3. How many El Paso Walmart reduxes did this just directly inspire? Oh wait nevermind, those will be mental illness
  4. I think anyone opposed should remain seated and start blasting YMCA from their phone
  5. They don't forget, they ignore. Like the dozens and dozens of posts over the last several days detailing political violence from the right and demonization of the left as scum, cockroaches, and vermin. And then their next post is "gosh, why is the left so violent? Why does the left have so much hate?" Etc., etc., etc. It's classic Internet trolling but for some reason we have to keep acting like they're posting in good faith.
  6. worth a watch. Produced and directed by UT alumnus
  7. $224.48 / .15086 = 1488 just saying
  8. Hahaha You do this routine like once a month, you sniveling snowflake.
  9. So does this cancel it out? Or will the impending crack down only fall on blue cities and the left?
  10. Who's gonna be the first poster on here to post a doctored pic from Gateway or Infowars or 4chan or IncelVille that purports to show his political leanings? Bonus points if you guess the first mainstream outlet to republish it
  11. Cheering. Fuck off. Not once did I support the shooting, defend it, or excuse it. I was pushing back that he was some "unifier" and promoted peace. That was it. Missing the point, indeed.
  12. come on, man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gateway_Pundit
  13. If we're gonna play the hits, how about the "abortion is Murder!" crowd that led directly to killings and bombings of abortion providers and clinics?
  14. According to the Texas legislature, it is.
  15. Are you being intentionally obtuse or just trolling?
  16. Juggling 2 books at the moment, one for a book club that I recently joined I've really enjoyed all of Powers' works. The Overstory remains one of my favorite reads from the last 5 years and I'm about 60% of the way through this one. Focuses on three characters - two men who grew up together in Chicago (one White, one Black) and attended Illinois together. Both were geniuses. They were inseparable. One went on to become a Jobs/Zuckerberg type character. The other, ends up living a simple life on a small island in the South Pacific. The third character is a woman who trailblazed deep-sea diving and oceanography during a time when men dominated the field. For the book club, I'm reading this: The entire book is a collection of letters written by and to the protagonist - a retired lawyer in her 70s. The correspondents range from her neighbors, her kids, former colleagues, and even some famous folks like Anne Patchett and Larry McMurtry. The letter are in chronological order and tell her life story through anecdotes and the conversations within the letters. A very ambitious way of telling a story, and despite my hesitancy and skepticism, I've quite enjoyed it so far.
  17. Are you not familiar with the Boogaloo Boys?
  18. Conservatives didn't go on the internet to complain? They just kept their heads down and quietly went to work on fighting the injustice? A federal EO limited to federal employees is equivalent to an EO telling public school teachers what they can say in a classroom? If you don't see the hilarity in the absurdity of your statements, I can't help you there.
  19. Conservatism in a nutshell. Rules for thee, not for me. Hilarious
  20. Putting aside for a moment the idea that a president can issue binding orders on how many genders there are, since you seem to believe that is a valid executive function, you'd then agree that if a democratic president issued an EO that there are more than 2 genders, that is now the "law" and any attempts by conservative states to push back would be improper, and schools would be required to teach that?
  21. FWIW, knowing Nicole, I think she was "liking" the post as a thanks for providing info. I don't think it was "liking" the fact that he was dead.
  22. He also recently PUBLICLY STATED that he was considering pardoning the people who plotted to kidnap the governor of Michigan. They're all back based on what I'm seeing
