  1. I bet Elmo takes up the mantle. He seems like he’d want to be a dictator. (Of course, not for president since he’s ineligible thank God.. But for sure as MAGA puppet master.)
  2. Spotted on the freeway today. Trump’s disdain of the military seems to have been noticed by many members of that group.
  3. Is publicizing that an effort to get Russian civilians to flee Crimea in advance of the bridge going boom?
  4. The internet would melt down (and so would MAGA).
  5. It’s only 87 miles from the DNC and in a battleground state. I think it’s great, and shows the campaign isn’t taking anything for granted. They are out there doing the work every waking second (unlike Sleepy Trump’s campaign).
  6. Example #5,673,967 of Republicans trying to disenfranchise voters: Republicans Ask Supreme Court to Block 40,000 Arizonans from Voting in November https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2024-08-19/republicans-urge-supreme-court-to-block-40-000-arizonans-from-voting-for-president-in-november WASHINGTON — The Republican National Committee is urging the Supreme Court to intervene in an Arizona election dispute this week and block up to 40,000 of the state’s registered voters from casting ballots in the presidential race. Republican state lawmakers say these voters did not provide proof of their citizenship when they were registered and now they should be barred from from voting in person or by mail. ADVERTISEMENT Although Congress made it easier for Americans to register to vote, those federal rules cannot override “the Arizona Legislature’s sovereign authority to determine the qualifications of voters and structure participation in its elections,” they said in an emergency appealfiled Aug. 9. The fast-track appeal may signal whether the conservative court is ready to intervene in partisan election disputes. The Arizona Republicans asked for a decision by Thursday because counties will soon begin to print ballots. Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said the appeal should be rejected. “There is no evidence of fraud and undocumented voting. The 2024 election is weeks away and acting now to restrict the voting rights of a large group of Arizona’s voters is undemocratic,” he said in a statement. ADVERTISEMENT Many of the affected voters are “service members, students and Native Americans who did not have birth certificates while registering,” Fontes added.
  7. Not that this is a surprise but the latest Berkeley Institute/LA Times poll came out for California. Harris 59% Trump 34% Margin is +7% over where Biden was earlier this year. Huge gains among the young, Black, Latino and independent voters. What bodes well in other states: The Berkeley poll delivered another piece of good news for Democrats — showing that people who don’t belong to a political party and those who describe themselves as moderates favor Harris at significantly higher levels than they did Biden. Moderates in California said they would pick the Democratic nominee by 59% to 31% over Trump. That puts Harris 12 percentage points ahead of where Biden stood in February, the poll found. And among nonpartisan voters, the poll showed a stout advantage for Harris, with 62% of California independents saying they support the vice president, a 17-point improvement over Biden’s standing in February. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-08-14/poll-harris-and-walz-build-huge-lead-among-likely-california-voters
  8. Now the most burning question: who will play Walz on SNL? I’m thinking Jim Gaffigan
  9. Gays for Harris? Or is that just a given? (with a few exceptions of course)
  10. Of course Elon is triggered by the gender identity law. Of course. I’m sure he’s thought this one through too, and it’s not just a knee-jerk reaction. I’m sure all of the literal rocket scientists will pack up their lives and follow Elmo to “Starbase, Texas”, and not just quit and get another job at the other space-related businesses in LA.
  11. Wait, so we’re back to “FSU and Clemson to the Big 12 talk not going away”?
  12. I think divorce papers would only be filed if it was Tuscaloosa->Seattle->Tuscaloosa.
  13. Wait so the only rivalry games being played on the last weekend (“rivalry week”) are Arizona/AZ State and KSU/ISU? So they protected only 4 rivalries (BYU/Utah, Baylor/TCU, KU/KSU, and AZ/AZ State) and they couldn’t even schedule 3 of them on the last weekend? instead we’ll get West Virginia/TCU, Baylor/Kansas, BYU/Houston and Utah/UCF. Nice move, Big 12.
  14. Or campaigning standpoint. Or personality standpoint. Or height standpoint. Or….
  15. Texas has too many fucking counties. (oh, and can we talk about how car dealers have to close one day every weekend, you know, when people want to buy cars?)
  16. This is a future ACC match up? No wonder FSU is suing anybody and e’rybody to GTFO.
