  1. Don't believe it was me, but LA would definitely be a shift for him and seemingly inconsistent with his past non football interests and hobbies as I understand them. That said, there are those who have suggested he was far more committed to Kliff than he was the school. He does seem to have a pretty strong Tech ties though. His mom, with whom he's close (parents are divorced), is a TT grad. Grandfather and uncle are huge TT fans, and grads, has 2 cousins currently at Tech, talked about having TT wallpaper in his room as a kid that sort of thing, so beats me. Supposed to meet with the new staff Monday I believe it is, so unless USC just blows him away this week end and he commits, the new staff will at least get a shot at getting him back in the fold. Wouldn't necessarily be the tragedy it would have been pre Wells in that they're recruiting another kid who seems to have as good or better an offer list than McIvor and is far more mobile. Plus, his knee injury was really bad. McIvor also chatting it up with a number of other coaches including Richt at Miami.
  2. Granted, I'm a TT fan, but truly I don't say this in a biased, rah rah, go team sense, but objectively, many folk tend to make far too much of the whole Lubbock location/recruiting issue. Folk like Tim Tadlock (3 cws in last 5 years and tied for most MLB draftees in the country last year), Marsha Sharp (national women's hoops title), and regularly nationally ranked track team coach Wes Kittley have clearly demonstrated that. Chris Beard is killing it on the recruiting trail. The fact that TT had eight teams or some such finish in the country's top 8 last year seems to very much fly in the face of the can't recruit to Lubbock mantra. Perhaps, not your own personal cup of tea, I understand completely, but it's honestly not the barrier so many believe. Really wasn't a big fan of the Wells hire. I'll spare you the details, but what he's done from a recruiting standpoint thus far is pretty impressive. Will it continue to work out nicely, who knows? Btw, what the hell is Peyton Powell up to? I certainly don't expect him to flip, but visiting Baylor this week end and meeting with the new TT staff (per Orangebloods)? Just bored or what?
  3. Gibbs is apparently headed back to UH. Here's a video I posted earlier on the football board with the two new TT coordinators. Patterson, the DC, has had some decent experience serving as DC at Pitt, WV, and Arizona State. He's on the 2nd half of the video and has some interesting comments about how defense should be looked at and measured differently now than it was not all that long ago.
  4. Latest has Kingsbury possibly going to LA, but with the Rams. https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/video/1386575427687 Los LosLos
  5. I know, I know, always with the jokes about KK's social life, but he's got a girlfriend that might that just might make the west coast his personal preference.
  6. The KK saga seems to get more complicated as time evolves. Aside from ESPN reports he could considered for head coaching jobs in the NFL, if the Packers hire Josh McDaniels, he could potentially be the Pats OC. He knows the organization well as they drafted him out of college and he's remained close with both Belichick and Brady.
  7. As has 3 star DB Keeyon Stewart and and 4 star DE Steven Parker as well. Coaches to see them and others Wednesday.
  8. New Texas Tech offensive and defensive coordinators met the media today. Each talks about the scheme they'll run and come with seemingly really good backgrounds. Both talk a good game anyway. Some interesting comments regarding playing defense in today's game and secondly how their offense is run.
  9. Bowman being interviewed by the media today. You have to wonder why KK wouldn't let anybody talk to him. He does a really nice job for an 18 year old kid. Appears Wells won't be nearly as secretive and guarded in allowing media access to players and staff. Kliff wouldn't even let the coordinators speak to them.
  10. That one is not over yet. If KK goes to USC maybe so, but there appears to be something of a fly in the ointment with Kliff's situation.
  11. Yost actually has a better than decent offensive background. Coached at Oregon, Washington State with Leach, Missouri and Utah State. Definitely a passing game guy.
  12. KK's class currently is ranked 36th by Rivals with 2 four stars, certainly nothing to throw a party about, but in the top third of the country. Really not too bad.
  13. Makes for a good story if you don't like Tech, but like just like a whole lot of this thread, a complete and total misconception. TT already had a neutral site game this year, ole Miss at NRG earlier this season. Nice try though.
  14. Fwiw, Venables and Hocutt have remained good friends since their college days together at KSU.
  15. As it relates to KK's coaching future, Hocutt was in Midland today talking to the Double Eagle guys.
  16. Not saying in the least that it's going to happen, but he and Hocutt are very, very tight.
  17. It's my sense that those who favor giving KK another year are in a very small minority. It's been six years now with no tangible improvement.
  18. Don't listen to butt fumble. He primarily posts nonsense. KK let Duffey back on the team because regarding the rape allegation, he was never arrested, formally charged, went to court, prosecuted or anything of the sort, much less convicted). In fact, the Lubbock DA (who is an Aggie and not even again running for re-election) refused to press charges. The allegations of his accuser were then made to the university pertaining to Title 9. He was suspended, attempted to sue the university and forced to drop the threatened suit under pressure related to additional penalty thus threatening the continuation of his athletic career. KK's buyout is a very little over 4 million and then 2 million for assistants.
  19. I, of course, have very strong feelings to the contrary, but regarding Hocutt, felt this opinion piece written by a local was very novel and even surprisingly pointed to have been written by what is almost always a very TT friendly local media. Friend of mine sent it to me. https://247sports.com/college/texas-tech/Article/Kansas-State-beats-Texas-Tech-21-6-124904827/
  20. I'm with you in missing the old 360 boards. That was when posting and reading was the most fun by far. It was new and there was something really fun about having all the schools available on one site. Been doing RRS for over 15 years now, though keep telling myself I'm going to give it up. The posters are getting worse and KK really limits information access to the staff. Only time I could stand raiderpower was when Amanda was kind enough to create a private forum for a group of us. Hadn't visited in years now, but appeared unbearable last I saw.
  21. Not sure that's correct regarding KK. At the start of the season anyway, TT led all schools in WRs on NFL rosters are some such accolade. And we've seen his QB recruiting. I'm not sure one could do that without a decent degree of trust.
  22. Rumor of the day is Bob Stoops to Tech. While it is true that Stoops and Hocutt are very tight,, I'm not planning on holding my breath and waiting on that one. That one is pretty far out there.
  23. I believe KK's next stop will likely be an OC spot in the NFL. He already spends a lot of time with NFL types as it is now. Plus his time and exposure to Belichick and 4 or or 5 other NFL teams as a player couldn't hurt.
  24. KK needed to go last year. He's been there six years now and his conference record is currently 19-34, he hasn't won a home conference game other than KU in 3 years, he's had a losing conference record for six straight years now, I could go on. He's had really bad QB injury luck this year, but didn't do any better when he had a talent like Pat Mahomes. KK's buyout is 4 million and change. Approximately 2 million more for assistants, which is on Kirby for giving them unusual 2 year deals. The buyout money plus new coach's money is definitely there. Leach would have come last year, but don't think so this year. Hocutt would be against it anyway. Not sure he really gets it in that many believe Jim Leavitt is his favorite. Horrible choice IMO. Wouldnt surprise me if TT wins the Baylor game to see Hocutt do nothing, offering baseless justification as he did last year. He has great manlove for KK. A few details about Kliff's contract situation. https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/9/1/17808950/kliff-kingsbury-contract-buyout
