  1. Not trying to rain on the parade in the least as I enjoyed getting a win. It's a heck of a lot better than losing. There were still a lot of trademarks out there though of a poorly coached team IMO. Horrible defense, senseless, undisciplined penalties, and poor special teams to name three. It also makes sense to recall we beat UH last year and we all know now what transpired the rest of the season. While the UH offense is really pretty good, UH is most certainly a team that will never be confused with Alabama. An apparently pretty bad Rice team gave them all they wanted and Arizona is beyond bad as well. I'm hardly ready to endorse giving KK a contract extension just yet.
  2. I have no idea about the validity of the UNT alum's comments, but if Seth is fond of making significantly more money than he is now, seems to me he'd have to give Tech or somewhere else like them a look anyway. Kliff currents makes about 4 .times more than Seth does.
  3. Not to mention their top 2 running backs.
  4. KK beat them last year as well and then preceded to then flash his ass the remainder of the season, so no, no brownie points from me yet. Not bitching about a win, but there were still some hallmarks of a poorly coached team that were present.
  5. LSU and the white jerseys from wiki........ Jan 3, 201rom Wikipedia: White Jerseys - LSU is notable as one of the few college football teams that wears white jerseys for home games as opposed to their darker jerseys (in their case, purple). Most other NCAA football teams wear their darker jerseys in home games, even though football is one of the few college sports that do not require a specific jersey type for each respective team (for instance, college basketball requires home teams to wear white or light-colored jerseys while the away team wears their darker jerseys), and is similar to the NFL in letting the home team decide what to wear. The tradition started in 1958, when Coach Paul Dietzel decided that LSU would wear white jerseys for home games. Another story is the tradition first started when Dietzel had LSU wear white at home for good luck against a ranked Georgia Tech team in 1957 because Georgia Tech's team had long been known for wearing white at home. LSU won the game and he continued that tradition for the 1958 season and LSU went on to win the national championship that year. Since the 1958 championship season, LSU continued to wear white jerseys at home games through the 18-year tenure of Charles McClendon. Then in 1983, new NCAA rules prohibited teams from wearing white jerseys at home. Because of this, LSU wore purple jerseys during home games from 1983 to 1994. The team's fans believed wearing purple jerseys were "bad luck" and often complained about being forced to wear purple jerseys at home although LSU won SEC championships in 1986 and 1988 wearing purple at home. In 1993, then-coach Curley Hallman asked the NCAA for permission to wear white jerseys at home during LSU's football centennial, but was turned down. In 1995, LSU's new coach, Gerry DiNardo, was determined to restore LSU's tradition of white home jerseys. DiNardo personally met with each member of the NCAA Football Rules Committee, lobbying LSU's case. DiNardo was successful, and LSU again began wearing white jerseys at home when the 1995 season began. In LSU's first home game with the white jerseys, unranked LSU prevailed in a 12–6 upset victory over #6 Auburn. The 1995 rule allowing LSU to wear white at home had one stipulation: the visiting team must agree for conference and non-conference games. In 1997, the SEC amended its rule to allow the home team its choice of jersey color for conference games without prior approval of the visiting team. Therefore, only for non-conference home games does the home team seek permission to wear white jerseys at home. In 2009, the NCAA further relaxed the previous rule that required most away teams to wear white. The rule now states that teams must simply wear contrasting colors.[26] After the 1995 rule change, on two occasions LSU was forced to wear colored jerseys at home. The first time was in 1996 against Vanderbilt, who was still angry at LSU for hiring Gerry DiNardo, who left Vanderbilt to become LSU's head coach after the 1994 season. LSU wore gold jerseys for that game (a 35–0 LSU victory), and fans were encouraged to wear white in an effort to "white out" the Commodores. The other was in 2004 when Oregon State did not want to suffer in its black jerseys due to the humid weather of Louisiana in late summer, thus forcing LSU to wear its purple jerseys for a nationally televised game on ESPN. After the 1995 rule change, LSU was forced to wear colored jerseys on the road on four occasions. In 1998 and 2000, Florida coach Steve Spurrier exercised this option and forced LSU to don a colored jersey at Gainesville. The Tigers wore gold in 1998 under Gerry DiNardo (lost 22–10) and purple in 2000 under Nick Saban (lost 41–9). In 2007 and 2009, LSU also wore its purple jerseys on the road at Mississippi State, but the Tigers emerged victorious both times (45–0 in 2007 and 30–26 in 2009). Prior to the rule change, in 1978 LSU lost to Mississippi State in Jackson, Mississippi wearing purple jerseys. Currently, LSU does not wear the traditional white jerseys for every home game. LSU only wears white jerseys for the home opener and for home games against SEC opponents. For non-SEC home games other than the home opener, LSU wears purple jerseys at home.
  6. This from the NCAA rule book. "The visiting team shall wear white jerseys; however, the home team may wear white jerseys if the teams have agreed in writing before the season."
  7. Vivamatadors.com is a pretty obscure site. I follow TT football as closely as anyone and I literally know of no devotees. Not an expert on them by any stretch, but no forums that I'm aware of. Just seemingly a few stories every now and then and that's about it. Seemingly virtually no activity.
  8. There is a Tech Rivals site named Red Raider Sports. Been around since 2000 or so. I've been a member for 13 years. Originally owned by Robert Giovannetti, Tech Sr.. Associate AD, it is now owned Chris Level, who does color for TT basketball, sideline reporter for football radio, hosts the coach's radio shows, etc. Also contributes to the site. Its 100% pay at $100 a year or $12 a month. They sometimes run free 14 day trials if you're inclined to check it out. There is absolutely no comparison between RP and RRS. RRS is far superior with perhaps several thousand subscribers Id guess as well as far more info. Additionally, you'll have some access to all the other school's sites. "Inside the Double T" is the TT forum you'll spend the most time in, but you have access to their national board as well. Aside from some really squirrelly moderating, and Kliff's lack of willingness to provide certain sorts of information, I've been by and large satisfied and entertained by the site. I generally recommend it. Red Raider Sports --- https://texastech.rivals.com/
  9. I think it might be a good idea to keep an eye on N Tx vs Arkansas this Saturday. Think an impressive outing by the Mean Green could certainly contribute to helping put Littrell in the driver's seat for the job. Just reading TT pay sites and the like, I personally sense a lot of support for Littrell and virtually none for Cumbie (seen as Kliff jr.) and even less, if possible, for Applewhite. Very little for Venables as well. While he did coach at Tech under Leach, he's also coached at Arizona, Indiana, and North Carolina, so perhaps not a dyed in the wool Leach protege. He also has actually been a head coach and folk have gotten more than tired of KK supposedly learning on the job. While only having been at N.Tx a short while, he's done a pretty nice job to this point.
  10. I would guess you likely didn't think they would be an elite 8 team last year as well. In addition to Culver, they also have 3 four stars arriving as well as two pretty prized transfers. I'm not necessarily predicting another elite 8 appearance, but think they'll be far better than you expect. This, especially as the season progresses.
  11. Tech commitment, Maverick McIvor, was helped off the field after the last play of tonight's game. No announcement was made as to the severity of the knee injury, but it appeared to be a serious one. If so, tough break for the kid.
  12. Might be an interesting week end at Tech. Beard has 4 Rivals top 150 recruits in for visits. Already has 3 2018 four stars committed.
  13. I'd like to see Harrell aboard too. Informal North Texas sources maintain though should Littrell be hired away, Harrell most likely would be named head coach at N. Tx--so we might not be very likely to see it. How bout this for wild ass rumor of the day? Hocutt and Bob Stoops are fairly tight. Using that relationship to talk him out of retirement a la Urban Meyer. Never happen, but some folk want to try. Btw, could be ButtFumble's most stupid post ever. And for him that's saying something.
  14. Sort of a unique interview with Kliff. I thought it was pretty good. Even talks a very little bit about that Aaron Humphrey hit he took in Austin among many other things. A bit more of a coach's human side than usual.
  15. Now the ags starting in on the TTU dental school. Their timing is interesting . Of course it's not so much themselves they're concerned about, they're just looking out for the state of Texas. Just like when they wanted to add yet another law school. https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2018/08/25/texas-not-need-another-dental-school On a separate note, sort of an entertaining behind the scenes look at TT fall camp.
  16. He's too busy with Oprah for any football anyway.
  17. Last year's Tech team with Shimonek by past offensive standards was, contrary to your view, pretty bad. They finished 4th in conference scoring a whole point ahead of Ksu and TCU. And KK will live and die running the air raid? We'll see, he said just the other day, they'll be a run first offense this season. In my mind for that group, that's a potential disaster. As far as Carter, you did see last year's UT game didn't you? Not good. Yeah, a QB with a good arm, who needs it?
  18. Btw, Ward completely cleared. All just a matter of simple incompetence by Lubbock PD. Ward's roommate stole cell phones and used Ward's ID. Issue was cleared up in June for Ward, but for some unknown reason a warrant was issued anyway. Drug their feet releasing him even after lawyer provided paperwork demonstrated Ward's non-involvement.
  19. Given Tech's recent past, it's not hard to understand why some folk might get a chuckle out of the suggestion TT's LBs are the best in the conference. That said tho, I think they really could be. I've seen 2 national publications that have Dakota Allen as the top LB in the country. Likewise, Jordan Brooks as a soph made the coach's honorable mention all conference team--and Riko Jeffers is pressing him for playing time. Brayden Stringer, who started as a freshman, while providing depth, can't even now sniff any playing time. i think they're going to be pretty good. This as opposed to QB, where they are going to be awful.
  20. Ward was freed, but it wasn't due to a technicality. He didn't do anything. It was sheer incompetence by Lubbock police. His roommate, a former walk-on named CJ Hill used Ward's ID and stole cell phones. The incident was resolved in June for Ward. Inexplicably, Lubbock police issued a warrant anyway and he was arrested after a routine traffic stop and further wasnt released in a timely manner even though given paperwork by his lawyer demonstating his non-involvement. Crazy deal.
  21. If the above is true, this perhaps will counter some of the depression and gnashing of teeth of Tech fans related to apparently Carter being the starting QB. He's awful.
  22. Wow, this thing has just taken an abrupt turn. Reports are now that Ward's roommate stole his ID and is the culprit. Supposedly backed up by video. If true, that's something of an astounding turn of events.
  23. Bonney gets an interception today in his first Tech scrimmage. He's running with the two's.
  24. Really good piece from a very objective source. Everybody from UT to A&M, to Tech to Bill Gates to T. Boone Pickens contribute to it. Summarizes things very accurately and well. Thanks for posting the link. A highly recommended read.
  25. Quote In June, Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp wrote an editorial piece in the Dallas Morning News titled, "Texas doesn't need another veterinarian school." Interestingly, the same rationale didn't seem to enter his mind when the Ags got themselves a real live law school here a while back.
