  1. Yeah, I started it because it was inevitable, but I guess whoever owns the first post chronologically that was moved over gets the blame.
  2. The sacrifices they make for lower taxes and fewer minorities.
  3. And this is the plan for federal disaster relief, which may or may not apply to Texas, because the GQP needs our shit ton of electoral votes, and as Noem couldnt stop shilling...."Trump loves Texas." We'll see. https://www.texasobserver.org/trump-texas-doge-cuts-disaster-aid/
  4. Oh he's improving the NWS all right, by slashing the budget so he can pay for his tax cuts. https://www.npr.org/2025/05/24/nx-s1-5407546/ahead-of-hurricane-season-the-national-weather-service-is-reeling-from-doges-cuts
  5. solid humblebrag
  6. After that last abortion of a press conference, probably time to fire up a dedicated CR thread. From my observations, the response effort has been solid once it got started and there is a commitment moving forward. A lot of questions about what if anything could be done differently and how things will proceed. No need to pollute the generic "thread of rains" thread for weeks. The promising thing is Noem pretty much committed to Trump signing the disaster declaration which is better than some other states recently. The not so promising thing is the collection of morons in charge. For those that didn't see the PC, I'm sure you can find it on youtube. But basically they kissed each others ass, kissed Trumps ass, kissed Jesus' ass and gave no details whatsoever, until the reports asked them for updates. Complete fucking joke. Texans will have their work cut out for them.
  7. Yeah probably time to start a CR/festivus thread about these fucksticks cause I gotta lot of problems with those people.
  8. Its still live, but you can just go back until the immediate end of the press conference for the comments from the studio.
  9. I just checked the timestamps.....25 minutes of ass-kissing with no details. Reporters had to force them to even give an update on casualty figures. 25 fucking minutes of nonsense.
  10. Its all handjobs and Jesus. Mission accomplished!
  11. Holy fuck, these dickbags cant stop jacking each other off. Get down to details of what the fuck is actually going on.
  12. I have seen several references to a woman that was found 12 miles downstream, which seems inconceivable to me. That would be an insane amount of time in some dangerous water
  13. Time for the bi-annual Shoal Creek Saloon hose down?
  14. when you say "few and far between", do you mean very few people can afford them or do you mean very few companies even offer them so you may not be able to find one even if you can afford one in a high risk areas?
  15. This feed has been occasionally showing the room without audio, as the official PC hasnt started yet
  16. Have you heard any projections on where they expect it to top out?
  17. https://www.texasobserver.org/trump-texas-doge-cuts-disaster-aid/ I know some will write the commentary off because its in a liberal rag, but somewhat crazy that the dude publishes the article just hours before central Texas gets turbo-fucked by a scenario that is getting more and more common. And the rubes want to keep licking trump/abbot's balls.
  18. Even 670 wouldnt shock me when its all said and done. But having to open any floodgates would.
  19. Just cracked 50% but yeah, the amount needed to fill the top 10 feet is a hell of a lot more than is needed to fill the first 10 feet.
  20. good portions of austin metro has received 3+ inches in the last 48 hours, its not like its been bone dry. Other than taking some of the brunt off of areas that have been pounded, its not like we need more at this point.
  21. Your article is wrong. There were forecasts (by the NWS, I believe) on Thursday indicating rain levels up to 7 inches in areas that included the Guadalupe river basin. Nobody is arguing that a lot of rain came down. That doesn't automatically exclude the possibility that critical errors by local authorities didn't also compound matters.
  22. Thanks to DOGE, a lot of former NOAA staff dont either. It will be interesting to watch the battle of spin here. In one corner you will have texas top politicians pushing the narrative that the forecasters are to blame and they had no inkling this rain was coming, and then in the other corner you will have people blaming the disruptions at NOAA and NWS due to staff cuts, in the other other corner you will have Trump's administration insisting those cuts had no effect, and in the last other corner people will probably be blaming Biden. My gut tells me that some loss of life was probably unavoidable due to the magnuitude of the event, and general incompetence by local authorities compounded matters. Inexcusable to have that many kids camping on a river in the hill country when forecasts for 7 inches of rain at the high end were put out the day before.
  23. Watch the Shank cook....
  24. There were models yesterday showing up to 7 inches of rain was possible. That alone should be enough for the camps to move campers away from low lying areas, and if they weren't aware the local authorities should have made sure they were aware. As it turns out the rainfall was quite a bit more in some areas, but that doesn't mean there wouldn't have been flooding just based on the top end of the flood watches issued 7/3. I can't help but think somewhere there was a breakdown in communication OR there was never a communication plan in place. And thats the reason for the behavior at the press conference earlier.
