They want to stop financially supporting organizations like nws, NOAA, npr, etc.... that's money that can go to rich people through lower taxes. They don't even hide the fact.
As I stumbled across this thread, it occurred to me that I have not been summoned in the 15 years I have been back to Austin. What serves as the "pool" for summons? I have moved a couple of times around town, but my voter registration and DL have been up to date for years now, and I've never gotten any notification that I missed a summons either. It just seems like a long time.
And this is the plan for federal disaster relief, which may or may not apply to Texas, because the GQP needs our shit ton of electoral votes, and as Noem couldnt stop shilling...."Trump loves Texas." We'll see.

Oh he's improving the NWS all right, by slashing the budget so he can pay for his tax cuts.

After that last abortion of a press conference, probably time to fire up a dedicated CR thread. From my observations, the response effort has been solid once it got started and there is a commitment moving forward. A lot of questions about what if anything could be done differently and how things will proceed. No need to pollute the generic "thread of rains" thread for weeks.
The promising thing is Noem pretty much committed to Trump signing the disaster declaration which is better than some other states recently. The not so promising thing is the collection of morons in charge. For those that didn't see the PC, I'm sure you can find it on youtube. But basically they kissed each others ass, kissed Trumps ass, kissed Jesus' ass and gave no details whatsoever, until the reports asked them for updates. Complete fucking joke. Texans will have their work cut out for them.
I just checked the timestamps.....25 minutes of ass-kissing with no details. Reporters had to force them to even give an update on casualty figures. 25 fucking minutes of nonsense.
I have seen several references to a woman that was found 12 miles downstream, which seems inconceivable to me. That would be an insane amount of time in some dangerous water
when you say "few and far between", do you mean very few people can afford them or do you mean very few companies even offer them so you may not be able to find one even if you can afford one in a high risk areas?

I know some will write the commentary off because its in a liberal rag, but somewhat crazy that the dude publishes the article just hours before central Texas gets turbo-fucked by a scenario that is getting more and more common. And the rubes want to keep licking trump/abbot's balls.
