  1. KInda comical to see Arlington fans tempting the BBGs like that when they're only two games up in August with the two-time world champs and four-time AL champs right on their heels and a red-hot Seattle team 5.5 out after winning seven straight.

A more immediate option is obvious and under consideration. If it happens, Houston would author a full-circle reunion with a familiar face.

The Astros’ most logical option to balance their bench is Jon Singleton, the franchise’s former top prospect who signed a minor-league deal in June and is dominating at Triple-A Sugar Land. This weekend at Yankee Stadium, Brown revealed the team is considering promoting Singleton amid his scorching start.

“We’ve had conversations and we’re thinking about it,” Brown said. “I don’t know how close we are, but I’ve had conversations about it and we’ll see where it goes from there. We’ve definitely had some conversations.”

Singleton is slashing .339/.455/.704 with 18 extra-base hits, 26 walks and 33 strikeouts across his first 143 plate appearances at Sugar Land. He has struggled in three brief big-league stints since 2014, including an 11-game cameo with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this season, but Brown seemed to indicate the team will summon the 31-year-old slugger at some point in these final two months — perhaps quite soon.

“I think if he can come up here — and we’ll give him a shot — if he can come up here and hit the ball well and have quality at-bats, I think he’s a guy that Dusty can say ‘I want to get some more reps on,’” Brown said. “It will be a Dusty call at the end of the day. If we get him up here and Dusty really likes him, we’ll roll with him. If Dusty says I’m limited with this guy, it’ll be his call once we get him up here.”

at some point, he's gonna need some experience to get better there

and this here is the best argument for him playing every day. I'm not Team Maldy, I just repeat what has been reported and said by pitchers and insiders about Machete being the staff's QB and whatnot and how Diaz has to learn how to prepare to call games etc but he's getting there yadda yadda yadda. Diaz can only do this by playing more, not less. You cannot put his bat on the bench with Kessinger's in the lineup.

Fuck it, call up Singleton if you need to give Abreu a day off.

Julks had a really tough game a week or so ago.. He was in a small slump already, and hit like 4 balls on the screws that were caught by the OF.. I'm sure that's contributing to the mental aspect of his slump..

That being said, he can work out of it in AAA by playing EVERYDAY.. Singleton deserves a shot..
