  1. It isn’t an action movie of course, but the action sure is good. Especially the end part. Just a well made movie in general. Writing, characters, cinematography, sound. Its message reminds me of “The Day After” from the 1980’s. It says, gratuitously, “Don’t do this.” When is Jesse Plemons gonna get his own movie? And is there any role Nick Offerman hasn’t killed? He had 90 seconds in this movie and you know exactly what his character is about. I’m surprised there isn’t a CR thread on this movie. Guess Garland managed to split the middle perfectly.
  2. I also worry about the precedent, but we’re at the stage the risk is worth it. We did things in WW2 that were dangerous precedents; some of which were still dealing with. But it was worth it. Same here I think. So again. Many of us are old enough to have been raised to hate the Russians. Is seeing out the dreams or Truman, Goldwater, Regan, John Rambo, enough reason to kill ‘em all, reason enough? It is for me. Let’s take their $300M and buy first-line weapons. And go kill Russians.

  7. Social Media existed in 2007, but taking it mobile is what made it a globe-defining thing. I remember the first time I saw a discussion board (Tigerdroppings) post done mobile. Likely early 2008. And for a few years, we could trust Social Media. I remember when I set up my Twitter I let them scan my Google contacts and auto follow everyone they scrubbed out of it. Good God can you imagine doing that today?
  8. Indonesian authorities on Wednesday ordered hundreds of villagers to evacuate following multiple eruptions of a remote island volcano, raising fears it could collapse into the sea and trigger a tsunami. Mount Ruang, a 725-meter (2,400-foot) volcano on Ruang Island, North Sulawesi, has erupted at least five times since Tuesday night, spewing fiery lava and ash plumes thousands of feet into the sky, the country’s volcanology agency said. Agency chief Hendra Gunawan said officials had raised the volcano alert to the highest level, warning people not to go within 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) of the peak, due to fears Mount Ruang could partially collapse into the water and cause a tsunami, as it did in 1871. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/17/asia/indonesia-mount-ruang-volcano-eruption-intl-hnk/index.html
