  1. I had two of these built about 7 years ago for $1200 each (probably would be double that now). They still look great, I really like galvanized for feeder hoppers.
  2. Which stand and fill are you looking at? The All Seasons EZ has been good for me. https://www.allseasonsfeeders.com/products/600-ez-feeder?srsltid=AfmBOoq1v963noD-iPdUrVUgxPdkjntfcZFtqtmvl7O11d09n_TLPSPs
  3. What a great buck. I love his left side, carries mass up those tines.
  4. my 11-year-old seems to have been listening to an interesting Taylor Swift album:
  5. Thinking through the logistics of being able to take a comfortable and clean shit on this trip have occupied an inordinate amount of time for me. I think I’m taking 4 different types of wipes, backpacking shovel, and soap for hand washing. I’m going to try some biodegradable wipes first and digging a hole/burying. I know it’s en vogue these days to carry used wipes out in a ziplock, but that’s just fucking gross to me. God forbid the ziplock come open. Also gross is seeing turds and wipes/toilet paper around campsites, so hopefully the burying plan works. There’s a lot of deadfall trees around, so should be able to find something to squat against.
  6. My Schnee’s Timberlines saved me from rolling my ankle twice on my scouting trip packout. I think they may be slightly less stiff than Kennetreks.
  7. I’m taking crocs as my camp shoes for Colorado. I’m envisioning wearing them while sipping some coffee not far from the tent one slightly foggy morning, glassing up a nice bull at day break across the valley, putting a ~500yard slightly quartering away shot (it’s dead calm) right through the top of his heart, watching him take a step and lay over; then taking another sip of coffee while I contemplate: God’s wonders and gifts, my place in the universe, the path of a human being through life, my journey, hard work and fruits of that labor, thankfulness, family. Then a whole bunch of work starts.
  8. Schnee’s boots and First Lite socks for me.
  9. Kuiu Camo and cheap rubber short boots; I like the “duality of man” statement : )
  10. Tell me about these suede (?) looking moon boots you’re wearing. Did you get any blood on them?
  11. No, but includes a bag filter, life straw, and jetboil. I’ll probably leave the life straw at the truck. Our trail parallels a pretty big stream, so hopefully we’ll have plenty of water not too far from camp
  12. This backpack has a load shelf you can create between the frame and the bag, and the bag comes off the frame and I have a cargo net I can swap on. Yes it will be multiple trips if we can’t get a horse pack-out service. A big bull is probably 3 man-trips minimum with 70-100lbs each trip. I would fully debone the quarters and load the meat in bags for transport. Bones are heavy. This suppressor is only 8oz. I have permanent hearing loss and irritating tinnitus in my left ear that started four years ago on the day I shot my first elk. (3 shots of braked 300 Weatherby with a huge pinion just to my left). I’m doing everything I can from here on to protect my right ear and not damage my left ear anymore. For where we hunt, sometimes things happen quickly; e.g. you haven’t seen anything in days and then all of a sudden a bull walks out but you may only have seconds to make a decision and get a shot off. If it’s cold, you’re trying to pull your glove off, dig out a foam plug and cram it in your ear as you’re trying to glass, range and get set up on this bull; it just doesn’t happen. Also if you’re hunting with a partner, it’s hard to communicate with each other quietly over earplugs.
  13. I head to Colorado for elk in 8 days. Planning to pack 5 miles in, 2500’ up to the spot I went and scouted about 6 weeks ago. Packed up all my “like to have” gear and dehydrated food for 7 days and it’s 71lbs. Yikes. Going to have to cut. We’re trying to find some horse pack-in help, which if that happens will make things a lot easier.
  14. Had my turkey from this spring mounted.
  15. West Texas Feeder Supply stuff is really good: https://westtexasfeedersupply.com/product-category/solar-chargers/ I also have enjoyed the Spypoint Cameras and their ap, getting photos, etc. I got my dad two cameras for his b-day and set everything up for him and logged in on my phone as well. Fun.
  16. That’s a great way to do it; good luck closing the deal on another one!
  17. @hornmpa96 that’s awesome! Congrats to your son, and welcome to the rest of his life - you’re a different man when you’ve pulled a bull elk out of the woods. Are you getting that bull off the mountain and then going back to look for another or what? I head up October 9 for first rifle season.
  18. Good used O/Us Other than Citoris (I don’t follow current manufacture that closely, but these have been good for decades): Beretta Browning Superposed Weatherby Orion Ruger Red Label Winchester 101
  19. @Pato del Muerto doe I’m assuming? How did he do lining up the shot? Any shakes/nerves? Nice job finding a way to get him out and glad you had a good experience!
  20. @CleverNickname How many pieces we talking? Rock Island opened up an operation in Bedford TX https://www.rockislandauction.com
  21. Duke receivers couldn’t catch anything for the third/early forth quarter, then Malik and the offense gets going and Manny pulls them them off the field to kick for the tie, and of course the kick goes wide. It was obvious to keep them on the field and go for the win there. Northwestern gives the ball right back and here we go again.
  22. I think the big problem was digital tagging: it’s a PITA, saves no time/steps, and there was anecdotal data of TPWD using location data from when/where digital tags were filed to find/roll up on hunting camps (unacceptable). Here’s the info on digital tagging:
  23. Got out this morning; only saw 5 birds, knocked one down. It’s been raining for 2hrs this afternoon. Watching turkeys and deer from the house and rewatching the Texas game.
  24. Got the kids shooting 22s today and wokked on feeders and cameras. Put my cold bore shot and two followers on a 10” target at 659 yards with my 7PRC; ready for my elk hunt. I Posted this in the gun thread as well, best cold bore shot I’ve ever made, feeling good.
  25. Getting tuned up for elk hunting this year. Ruger American in 7PRC. 659 yards
