  1. We use Navien for tankless and Rheem Performance Platinum Heat pump for tanked. The heat pump water heaters are pretty awesome. Spit out conditioned air, most can can duct that air to a specific location, and sip electricity.
  2. Means that many more times we will be on the hot and dry side in Austin? Seems about right.
  3. Airborne assault, brother. I know that’s not actually possible with the constraints and abilities of the Ukrainian military. But it sounds better than what actually is coming.
  4. Is that Jay Leno or a woman?
  5. I'll take the over.
  6. Just FYI, smaller jobs tend to be fixed fee because margin needs to be higher. When you get to bigger projects cost plus makes more sense for both parties. Could be you see more cost plus because of scope or costs.
  7. Seriously. A ton of the ideas flung around were literally illegal from a fire code perspective. You can’t legally build buildings, much less a school the way some of those ideas were proposed.
  8. Listen to this man, he's pre-med. Those brands are tits for the tools mentioned. Honestly, buy him some good shit. I still use the sockets, pliers, wrenches that my dad gifted me when I was 18 and I'm approaching Gundy territory. (and Dewalt miter and circ saw, those ones back in the day were tanks). I've used them more than most but not professionally, and they were worth every penny.
  9. Can you even do that on TikTok in china? I thought theirs was regulated to educational shit, ours was meant to distract our kids during their formative years…
  10. We have some sort of illness running through the house. I was in better shape so basically wrangled kids most of the weekend, handled dinner, got the kids to bed etc. I just got some work prep'd for the week and am headed to bed. I go in and ask her if she's feeling any better. W: Oh, yeah, I think my fever finally broke! M: Great! When's the last time you took Motrin? About 1 this afternoon when I gave it to the kids? W: Oh, about 45 minutes ago... I was able to watch as she figured out exactly what that meant.
  11. White oak has big open pores, so yeah I can see where it would be a bitch to clean out. That’s on GC or the paint sub. It sucks. I see why you’re upset, painter just wasn’t careful enough. There are a fuck ton of stairs that were built since the 50s that are no longer to code. Which is why I say: If you don’t have kids/grandkids to worry about safety or you’re not selling soon, wgaf. With that said…that’s the GC’s job to rein in the designer before it hits y’all’s desk or have the conversation with all parties in advance of install. Edit to add: it is kind of an easy code for inspectors to ding you on. It would be noticed by pretty much anyone.
  12. Correct, not to code. If you didn’t pull a permit, you can change it if you’re worried about small kids or could see yourself selling in a few years.
  13. Fucking peacock

    Meanwhile in China

My thoughts are the Air Force probably had some 19 year old painting this fucker with a laser to disable its intel gathering systems for the last few days. More of an exercise in boredom than anything else.
  15. Dude, I’m too drunk for your mistaken dates. Keep it current.
  16. I’m going to keep saying it, but putting local distribution power lines anywhere but underground is fucking stupid and we are now paying the piper. In other news I’m expecting AISD to call it for tomorrow soon. Just can’t see buses running and all the schools having power and cleanup done.
  17. Mostly with you, with the caveat that the best time to plant a tree is yesterday. The next best time is today. I’m tired of us paying to repair critical infrastructure that shouldn’t need repair. It’s wasteful, dangerous, and shortsighted. Do it right, bury the fucking lines like the rest of the goddamn 1st world.
  18. TIL Declan rice is only 24. Seems like he’s been starting at west ham forever.
  19. Obviously we’re handing off a better world to the next generation.
  20. I have a 4 door F150 that has stuff in the back a few days a week for work, and tows a trailer once a month or so. Got it when we had our first kid, prior to this job. I’d had a S-10 from high school through college with a Lexus for a bit prior to kids. I almost got rid of the truck prior to this job. As a family vehicle there are definitely better options, but I’m not keeping two vehicles and couldn’t go switch out prior to snagging the kids most days anyways. Why there aren’t more hybrid powertrains does confuse me. More low end torque and better fuel efficiency seems like a no brainer. I paid 32k for my truck. No idea what I’ll do when this one wears out. Prices are nuts.
  21. Canada has tanks?
  22. I don’t know that adding a bit of concrete for the footers and some wire buried under solar panels in conduit renders it fallow in the future either. They’re both in straight lines at regular intervals. Pretty easy to rip that out. The case study I saw was remarkably similar to what bolverk posted, only I think it was strawberries and might have been Europe. Same thing, had to be able to drive the tractor between panel rows, the evaporation cooled the panels increasing electric production, and the intermittent shade increased yields on the produce. Seems like a no brainer. The other interesting solar project I’ve seen is floating solar to slow evaporation and capitalize on that unused real estate.
