I'll always be indebted to the Chuy's late night happy hour on Barton Springs which included that (free) trailer loaded with chips, queso, refrieds, pico, salsa and more queso. When you were on a budget and especially didn't give a shit about cholesterol, plaque or anything else it was simply paradise.
The Vaughan / Stones relationship was an interesting one. SRV played the Continental from '80 until early '83 and one of his later shows was filmed. A few months later Jagger was at Manor Downs and runs into SRV's manager (Chesley Millikin). Jagger openly laments about the lack of "competent" blues guitarists in the world. Millikin gets Jagger a tape of the Continental show and it ends up in Watts' hands. He's astonished and the Stones fly up Double Trouble to NYC where the latter does a gig at a trendy place called Danceteria on West 21st Street. The Stones, Johnnie Winter, Andy Warhol and others were in attendance, not surprisingly blown away by the show.
While big fans, Jagger and the Stones ultimately pass on signing SRV to their own record label as "blues records just don't sell well enough".
Happy (belated) 78th to Linda Ronstadt. She only wishes "she could still sing while doing the dishes". Robbed of that ability over a decade ago due to Parkinson's / related complications.
Great grasp on the local music scene. The gossip column thing for the Statesman was bizarre.
Corcoran had some interesting lists.

That Dawson kick seemed to touch the stratosphere, pause and then somehow made it across the crossbar, from 50 yards out.
There have been longer game-winning kicks. But very few were as surreal at that one.
Grouse Mountain. Great views, hiking, lumberjack-type shows, watching grizzlies (safely). They're orphans who are full grown and have the run of the park in an enclosed area. But the grizzlies typically stay near the viewing areas. We watched one last summer for about 15 minutes make waste of a big tree carcass as he clawed his way through the bark in search of ants / insects. Cool shit.
You can also do the tram, open air style.
TWC just flashed a Euro graphic showing 12 - 18 inches between SA and Austin from Monday - Wednesday.
It's no wonder that channel has gone downhill when it's still using models that are 4 days old.
It's at a (low) Cat 1 now. Unless the water temp goes from 86 to 66 over the next 48 - 72 hours not sure how this can be.
But I'm no Yeomans so whatever.
Teenage kids that write a simple thank you note. I don't need the world for giving a $50 or $100 graduation gift card to the kid a couple houses down who I randomly see, just a small acknowledgement of appreciation. Pleasantly surprised to get a couple notes in the mail this year, so there's hope.
