  1. Congrats on the new bike. 1x11 is indeed awesome. Re: tubeless, I've always used Stan's and had good results. In the summer I find I need to add more or replace every couple months. Lots of people swear by Orange Seal, though I haven't personally used it. But they are a local company.
  2. bite the pillow, this storm's going in dry.
  3. Same for me with Five Stone.
  4. Once you go through The Notch, it is damn near straight up all the way to McKittrick Ridge. That is a very tough trail when you're doing an overnighter and have all your gear and water. But some of the best views in the park are up there It is much better done the other way. Coming from Dog Canyon all the way to the McKittrick Canyon Visitor center has been my favorite hike at GMNP.
  5. Good ol' Tinker, he was a badass. And Tomac back in the day too.
  6. At 6-1, I would think a 29er would suit you better. But again, ride them and see. I'm the same height as you and I prefer 29ers, though admittedly I haven't spent all that much time on 27.5. If you can go back to perf bike and at least ride around in the parking lot - ride over parking blocks, curbs, whatever obstacles you can find - that can give you some sense of what feels good to you. Body type can make a difference as well. For instance If your 6-1 is made up of all torso and stubby legs, maybe a 27.5 is better. The longer bars do take some getting used to. I'm comfortable in the 700mm range.
  7. Completely agree with the bolded part. Bikes are very much a personal preference and I can't imagine purchasing one without test riding first.
  8. I have a Tallboy.1 (2011 I think). I have done quite a bit of maintenance. Broke the bolts on the upper link and so replaced all bolts, axles, etc in the linkages. Blown rear shock and front fork. Of course those really need to be rebuilt every year or 2. I need to re-grease the lower link every year at least, but they give you the grease gun for that and it's easy. Bottom line is that full suspension bikes are more complicated and have more moving parts, so they will require more maintenance than a hardtail. With that said, I much prefer full squish because it is so much easier on my 45 year old back and gives me confidence to hit more technical trail, bigger drops, etc.

    Kayaking

Kayak n00b here. I've been wanting to get one for a while, but don't know too much about it. Use case would be casual paddling around local rivers, lake travis/austin/town, or even barton creek. I would have my dog with me most of the time, and he'd need to be able to get in and out. He's a 75lb GSD. Of course I would also need a little room on board for a couple beers. I was thinking a sit on top 10 or 12 footer. Advice? How about transporting the thing? I drive a truck, so throwing it in the bed would work, but of course it would hang out the back quite a bit. What do you guys do for transporting in a truck?
  11. The amazing thing is that there is so much more than what that trailforks map shows. I've been riding the SATN for years now and I still find new trails at least once a month. It isn't the most technical, nor is there much elevation, but it is so nice to be able to ride from my front door and hop on a network of 60+ miles of trail.
  12. I have a Blink camera above my front door right now. Every now and then a bird will perch on it and its weight causes the camera to be pointed straight down at the ground. Annoying, but it is pretty damn entertaining at the same time.
  13. Thanks, think I'll go ahead and order one.
  14. So my doorbell is on the wall adjacent to my door, and a doorbell camera would be looking "across the door". I know the Ring comes with a wedge so you can have it pointing more directly toward whomever is walking up to the door. Does the Nest Hello come with something similar? Would like to go with the Nest since I already have the thermostats.
  15. They have a $50 off offer right now on the Rachio 3, thinking of grabbing one. Rachio recently introduced an upgraded smart watering system, the Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller with automatic weather updates, customized schedules, and smartphone controls — plus, it works great with Applets! Enter code EARTH50IFTTT at checkout Valid through April 22 at Rachio's online store Limit one controller per order Order by April 22 for free shipping
  16. I can see the pic on tapa. Looks like part of it may be a bit over the house, but perhaps not over the adjacent property. Might be worth having an arborist take a look. I'd be a little more concerned about that leaning fence.
  17. Good to know. I have a friend that purchased an Infiniti from Carvana. Said it was easy and no hassle but I don't know that he got a very good deal.
  18. I'm in a similar situation but looking at an MDX or 4Runner. Does anyone have experience with places like Carvana or Vroom? The latter is interesting as they will deliver the vehicle to you and you have 7 days to try it and return if you don't like it. I really hate the dealership experience.
  19. Agree that this is a great movie, and probably the best I've seen in the last 2-3 years. One of those movies that just takes you right there into the setting. It also taught me that those Full House twins have a smoking hot younger sister.
  20. Gerrit Cole is just filthy. So nasty. Wish he could have gotten the W, but if he keeps pitching this way there will be many, many W's for him the rest of the season.
  21. Anyone know when Toyota is planning to finally refresh the Tundra? I'm going to be in the market probably later this year or early next to replace my 14 year old Z71. I'd like to go with a Tundra this time but it has gotten so long in the tooth and it would kind of suck to get a truck that is instantly outdated in a year or 2. I will also take a hard look at Chevy and Ford, but I bought my first Ford (mustang) a couple years ago and the experience has been a bit off-putting.
  22. Yep, my land value went from 50k to 100k, while structure went down a bit. I'll be curious to see how the protests go this year.
  23. This is a cool pic. I live off the top of Convict Hill road near 290 so it's really interesting to see what it looked like in 1981. I once ran across some old satellite images from 1983 or so, when there were only a couple houses up there close to where this pic was taken. Everything else to the south and west was ranch land..
