  1. I got the Fortin remote start from James at tech12volts - https://shop.tech12volts.com/product.sc?productId=537&categoryId=59 You're correct that the factory one sucks because the truck will turn off when you open the door. He also does audio and builds custom sub boxes for Tundras. I haven't gotten too far down the road on deciding what exactly I'm going to do, but will probably start with one of the audio packages he has and go from there. If you just want some advice I think you can call and explain what you want to do and he'll help you put something together.
  2. oh, and I apparently flipped it right side up as well, lol
  3. Tundra. All kinds of shit. A lot of the work was dechroming, which I knew I'd have to do as I kind of bought it as a platform to build what I wanted. Did suspension and tires. Husky floor mats. Replaced stock head unit with a Kenwood. Shit, I'm not done with audio... And some other little things like LED lights for interior lighting, and upgrading other basic things like that which Toyota neglects. Here's a before and after:
  4. Good list. I see the mod bug has bitten you, that is fun and addictive. I only have one major mod left to do to my truck (got the truck almost a year ago) and that's exhaust, which I'll do in the next few weeks. However, when I visit the forums I always come across something else that I want to do. I need to quit browsing those forums.
  5. Some of the best trails in all of Texas. I need to get back out there, it's been too long.
  6. This. Husky X-Acts ftw.
  7. First ride of the new year is in the books. It was supposed to be cold and rainy/misty today, but the precip never transpired. Instead it was 52 degrees, cloudy, and the trails were in great condition. Nice way to kick off the year.
  8. Since I'm living in the dark ages over here, the first time I rode with a dropper was a couple weeks ago on a demo bike I had. I forgot to even use it most of the time, but did drop it down a bit on some gnarly descents at BCGB. It is a bit awkward for me still, as I'm used to kind of using the seat for stability holding it between my legs (more phrasing?) and when it is dropped down it feels like I lost my safety net, in a way. I can see how it would be a benefit though once I get used to it. I'll hold off getting one until I get a new bike, which will undoubtedly come with it.
  9. Well, I am now experienced with modern bike geometry. I had a couple of demo bikes over the last few days, and got in 2 rides with each. Both were 2020 models with slack HTA (66 degrees) and steep seat tube angles (76-77). And wide bars. Coming from my tallboy with a 71 degree HTA, it felt weird as fuck at first. Front end felt long. And I definitely noticed the "flopping" of the front wheel at low speed that Twice has mentioned. However, 2 or 3 miles into my first ride it started to feel natural. I was even used to the 780mm bars pretty quickly. Both bikes were about 2 lbs heavier than my tallboy which I thought was going to be a huge issue, but I didn't really notice it out on the trail and they were good climbers. Even set a few PR's. I guess there is no stopping it now...new-bike-itis has a hold of me.
  10. yeah there were some major fires in the area about 6 or 7 years ago. One of the biggest in NM history, I believe.
  11. So I finally got around to looking through some of the footage from my Ruidoso trip a couple of months ago. Here's a quick vid from one of the runs down the trail at Ski Apache. I was hoping that they would have added more trails and features out there but didn't look like anything new from the last time. Not a challenging trail but it's still fun to do a few runs.
  12. Nice, dude. I've never made it all the way up dab-free. Best I've done is gotten up to the left turn with the big ass ledges, which looks like about the same spot you got up to. Of course I did it years ago when I was in much better shape. Could not do that now. In fact I haven't ridden that main trail in a long time...these days I take one of the singletrack options off to the left. But you've inspired me. I'm off work tomorrow so going to hit up BCGB.
  13. I bet the old lady appreciates it tho. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  14. i do most of my own wrenching, but wheel building and anything beyond tightening a couple of loose spokes I leave to the shop. I know my limits...
  15. Yes, I had the same experience today. Got out for my first decent ride in a couple of weeks and went to Pedernales Falls. With the rain we got this past week it was absolute hero dirt out there. Hero weather too. Supposed to be continued nice weather this week and I have vacation days I need to burn by the end of the yea,r so I think I'll take a day or 2 and ride.
  16. I had the same experience when I tried it yesterday. It also was just killing the CPU on my S8, motherfucker was about burning a hole in my pocket. Deleted it and went back to Textra with haste.
  17. Agree with what others have said. SATN is fun and convenient, but not a destination trail. The 'Nut is lots of fun, and last time I went there about a year ago it had lots of new fun flowy trails with plenty of berms. But I will not go there on the weekend. Fuck that. To me, the quintessential Austin trail is the Barton Creek Greenbelt (BCGB). And more specifically, the back trails as wd40 alluded to. However if you've never ridden it you absolutely need a guide. I have seen some halfway decent maps at Bicycle Sport Shop, but I'd say you still need someone with you who knows it. I find myself going out of town to ride most of the time if I'm not riding SATN or BCGB. If you have some time to head a bit out of town to ride, consider Pace Bend. It's a fun trail with some climbing but not much, and some technical features to keep you honest. Plus, Lake Travis.
  18. yeah...shortly after I got back from the trip, shit blew up at work in a bad way. so that's consumed my life for the past 10 days. haven't even pulled the footage off the camera. maybe this weekend. I rode today for the first time in 2 weeks and 16 miles in, my derailleur hanger broke. Didn't have a spare with me, so resulted in a 3 mile walk home (luckily i was on the way back to the house on the loop I was riding).
  19. very nice, looks like a blast. Bentonville is definitely on my list of mtb destination trips.
  20. People rave about the Duratracs in mud and snow, seems to be an all around great tire. It was between those and Nitto Ridge Grapplers for me. I went with the Nittos and they have been great for me off road, in the rain, and are pretty quiet on road. Have heard they are good in snow as well but I haven't driven mine in snow.
  21. Nice color choice, fellow cement gray tundra owner
  22. I put 285/70/18 on mine because I still have the stock TRD wheels with +60 offset. Some people say 295/70/18 will fit on those but I'm super close to the UCA with these tires. I'm happy with them, and as mentioned it completely changes the look of the truck.
