  1. Wait! It's Kevin Steele as DC/LB Coach ... Just kidding!
  2. Thank you Sam! Hook ‘em!
  3. South End zone looked pretty good.
  4. In typical FCB fashion, he backpedals on Warehime being retained. He added in a board posting that Warehime was only being a given a chance to interview but likely won't be retained. Take that for what its worth ...
  5. FCB’s latest round of speculation on D side is splitting Dline into DE (Giles) and DT coaches. Potential DT candidate per FCB is Elijah Robinson (currently at A&M). LB candidate is Robb Smith (former Arky LB coach and Minn DC). Not much mentioned about DBs other than Washington a possibility staying at CB with Ash coaching safeties. Naivar could be in play at several Pac12 schools. On offensive side, FCB reiterated that Drayton and Hand are good and that Warehime will interview for TE role. Same names at WR as previously mentioned (e.g., Jones and Carrier) and Coleman (interim WR coach for Alamo Bowl) is in the running as well.
  6. I think Beard’s buyout is way more than $6m since he signed an extension after last season to 2023/24 for about $16M.
  7. Warehime is probably the most expendable member of Herman's staff if any of the rumors about Beatty potentially joining are true. Plus moving from OL to TE coach after Hand arrived is probably writing on the wall. It will be interesting to see if Warehime ends up staying on the staff as an Analyst or if he goes somewhere else.
  8. Nothing like failing up for sure. Though, I think the NFL trend towards more wide open college style offenses played a role in this (if the news ends up being true). Though, we are talking about the AZ Cardinals who were the definition of poor ownership/management ...
  9. Wow, what a bunch of poor sports. Yes, it would've been nice if Bru committed to UT but that was not in the cards. It was pretty evident from the video @TrojanPrincess posted that he was all USC the whole time. That's not a surprise since most of the Mater Dei HS stars go to USC (e.g., think Leinhart, Matt Barkley, JT Daniels and others). Hard to beat the hometown school in a place like SoCal, but at least Mehringer (despite his issues) made it interesting. I think we're more than good at WR especially with Colin Johnson returning.
  10. Okay, back to recruiting ... Any new updates on Javonne Shepherd (signing/not-signing today with us or Ag) and Hookfin (3pm signing allegedly)?
  11. What staff and strategy changes would you prefer?
  12. I think D. Glass would be a solid recruit in any year where we weren't shooting for the stars in Sanders & Cain. It's good that we are trying to compete with the Big Dogs (e.g., Bama, UGa, etc.), but we really don't have the team or staff yet to do that. We're heading in the right direction with finishing 2nd in the Big 12 and heading to the Sugar Bowl, but we need to improve across the board. From video, Glass looks better than Porter and hopefully he wasn't over-used at Katy HS to the point where he's maxed out. Hence, its worth looking at him further along with the grad transfer market.
  13. One of the other 247 mods said the same. However, we did make a push mostly from Beck, Herman and Carrington to make the decision more interesting. Other than Drayton visiting Cain's father in Baton Rouge, it appeared that Beck became the closer in this deal. Disappointing we didn't get Cain but wish him luck at PSU.
  14. Yep and that was all Herb Hand. So far, I think he's done a decent job on the OL getting it serviceable this season. And, he did that with essentially a 6-man rotation enabling us to redshirt the 4 freshman OL guys along with Denzel Okafor. That's huge for depth and really helps for the long term. Plus, Tyler Johnson is a huge get and hopefully there's a grad transfer or 2 that could help ...
  15. Maybe or more than likely he's a good position coach (can't fault his resume on guys like Elliot, etc.) but not a great recruiter. So far, he's 0 for this season since Derrian Brown was recruited by J-Wash ...
  16. Yes Sweat will spin down but he's 2 - 3 years away. That transformation doesn't happen over night, but Sweat will be a gamer for us for sure.
  17. Yeah, I do think Herman needs to rethink his staff and get a closer or 2. They are "good" at recruiting but not great at closing on highly contested recruitments. Overall I think this is a good class, but there are some weaknesses on the OL, RB and DL side. 1 commit at RB & OL isn't going to cut it and we still didn't sign any DT's. We did get some good DE's and maybe 1 or 2 will grow into the DT role, but I don't think we have the luxury of waiting 2-3 years for that to pan out. Hopefully the misses on the big guns will get Herman moving ...
  18. Anybody put a "for sale" sign up yet on Drayton's house? Pretty bad that we whiffed on Cain and Sanders given all the energy spent on those 2 ...
  19. I believe that Jason Washington was the lead recruiter for Derrian Brown (not Drayton). Especially since J-Wash was already recruiting GA for Kenyatta Watson. So far Drayton doesn’t quite look like the rainmaker we all hoped for, but there’s plenty of time for that to change ...
  20. Hmmm, that might partially explain why Cain hasn't jumped on board. I can hear the typical recruit question - 'coach are you going to be here?' Then said coach says 'heck, yeah' and then outside rumors come up about said coach looking around. I do believe IT hinted at some other 'data points' regarding RB recruiting and this could probably be one of those. In any event, the competition for Cain and Sanders will certainly "neg" us and Drayton as much as possible. Ain't recruiting season fun yet?
  21. I hear you there and certainly wouldn't argue about that.
  22. The whole Penn St thing with Cain doesn't really make sense since he's not from the mid-Atlantic or Northeast. You usually don't see kids from the south (or Texas) go to Penn St, even though there probably are exceptions on occasion. In general, I think there's a lot smoke from the Cain camp to keep folks guessing not to mention all the media-fed speculation. We'll know for sure on Dec 19th ... As far as who to take if Sanders (Alabama, GA or FL) and/or Cain go elsewhere, I'd focus on Glass and the JUCO RB from Cali. In any class where you didn't have all the focus and hype over Cain and Sanders, a RB like Glass would be take.
  23. You know, it's probably time to stop dreaming about Bru. Great that we're in the running, but the Mater Dei (Bru's HS) stars usually end up at USC. Some of that is the SoCal/Orange County culture along with a long history of great players who went on to USC -- e.g., Matt Leinart (Heisman winner, lost to us in 2005 title game), Matt Barkley (4 year starter at QB), JT Daniels (likely 4 year starter) and plenty of others. At the end of the day, I think the USC/SoCal culture will win out and Bru will head there. Anything can happen (it's recruiting) but best to be prepared ...
