  1. i dunno. maybe it's because i'm a forty-something, but there was something about this show that i really liked. it was an adult show for adults who have lived lives which grew up as dale grew up. seeing dale go is a piece of austin going away. i really leaned into it as covid kept on going. we need local content more than ever. but sinclair doesn't believe in that. i've already said it, and he had issues, but shit, this dude was my alarm clock for years in the early 00s. thing is, everything fell apart in september when he was committed. just a shame, i reckon. it is always interesting when radio management just doesn't fucking get it. that's what happened to 1300 the zone. just don't understand what makes people listen.
  2. other than that, i guess, i was a huge yawn. it's a miracle i stayed awake. which, when considering ag type things, is a good thing. i should be sleepy when the ag is talking.
  3. maybe, i guess. i've turned into a podcast guy. i'm obviously not the audience that klbj is going for. i don't know the demographic targeting that they are doing, but it's clearly not me. i really liked matt bearden's coyote show. i liked him on the dudley and bob show. now? i dunno. as much baggage as dudley had, he was a force of nature, a real person, with real problems that he talked about, not some bobby bones or ryan seacrest pretend act. you can hate on him all you want, but he was at least honest. same with ward. sinclair seems to dislike honesty, i guess. so i'm back to straight podcasts, and maybe the horn. it's a shame.
  4. well, his wife cheated on him (apparently) and he went suicidal. was committed. came back, was overmedicated on prescription meds, matt left the show. i dunno, the whole thing is a clusterfuck. local content is the only way terrestrial radio lives. that company that bought all those stations doesn't seem to understand that. let's hear some more led zeppelin, as though i can't hear that on spotify or pandora. i dunno. whatever. i had issues with dale and his ego or whatever, but he was our radio host. he was our ego. same with ward. in one year, you just jettisoned the top two radio personalities in the area. and you had a good thing going with bearden and rosenquist, and you just fucked all that up too. oh good, more scorpions. more dio. i'm out.
  5. https://jeffwardshow.com/ you can listen to it here. though he has like 3 sponsors, so i'm not sure how long it can keep on. two of his sponsors are the same guy. atx hot sauce and supreme lending are the same dude.
  6. why even bring him back from vacation? that's some bush league bullshit. if you knew he was gone prior to christmas, get rid of him then. dale had his issues, but the ownership of that station group is fucking stupid. firing jeff ward. getting rid of coyote, which was a breath of weird afternoon fresh air and firing abby rosenquist. moving matt to some weird show with cj morgan. now firing dale. i feel like this is 1300 the zone all over again. welcome to irrelevance, i guess. well done sinclair, you fucking idiot.
  7. yes, for sure. aisd fucked the goat on personnel when they did layoffs during covid. they gave every teacher $1000 bonuses, then eliminated positions. my wife was one laid off, because she had just joined a school, so last in, first out. she's since found a better situation, closer to home, even, so it's not all bad. but what the fuck kind of stupid management is that during a pandemic. i understand that math doesn't work without butts in seats, which is how funding works. don't even get me started on how stupid a metric that is.
  8. as a parent of two boys with 504s, i'm supportive of accommodations. i think yall are tilting at the wrong windmill. my wife is also a teacher, and i see the bs she has to put up with, so we get both sides of the equation. there are some teachers that simply don't believe in adhd. believe me, it's a thing, and it does require some extra work on the part of teachers. i've also seen my wife come home in tears because a third grader basically destroyed her classroom, throwing chairs and ripping stuff off the walls. i've seen her work 60 hour weeks, etc. i know, i know, summers off, gfy. she easily puts in a full year's worth of work in 9 months in aisd. aisd is fucked for many reasons, but recapture is the main one. enrollment is down, the district sends a huge amount of its funding out into the rest of the state, and admin is bloated. i think @smoky above is exactly right. aisd can't afford to go virtual. it was a trainwreck, and i say that as a guy who was more than happy to stay home with my sons for virtual education. i just don't think omicron is that dangerous, and now we are all vaccinated. i'll get my sons boosted as soon as we can, and move on from there. before we had vaccines, and we knew a lot less, i was very willing to stick with virtual. now? they both are double pfizered and will soon be boosted. right now, it seems that omicron isn't too bad for vaccinated people. so, once again, follow the science of the day. it's the best we can do.
  9. yeah, it's a tough one, for sure. but there has to be some point where you escort the person off the plane so the rest of the passengers can get to their destination.
  10. um, polls are and have always been the problem with cfb
  11. further, with the size the sec is going to become, why not just jettison the conference championship game, and promise playoff spots to each division champ? and then make sure they have to go through each other to reach the championship game? same for an expanded b1g and pac-12. then offer playoff spots to other conference champions that are smaller? i dunno. but an all sec championship is bad for the game, imo. maybe good for ratings. but you're going to eventually kill the golden goose if that's the only thing we're going to get.
  12. do you want two outclassed games or one? yesterday was a snoozefest.
  13. i've given a bit of thought to this while cleaning up my NYE mess. i don't think this is exactly right, but i think i see what you are trying to say. i don't think espn, and by extension, the national sports media, has nationalized the sport. as a matter of fact, i think they have focused on one particular region: the south. granted, football in the south is life in autumn, and has been as long as i can remember. but my folks are from ohio, and high school football up there is as big as it is here, despite books like friday night lights. i think the problem we've got is the hype machine. we have rankings. we have impressions. we have eyeball tests. what the fuck is all that? in what other sports are those criteria applied? i guess you could argue that with ncaa basketball or baseball seeding there is some of that, but those tournaments are mature and make a team become a champion. and both those sports play longer seasons so you have more data points. what we need is some objective criteria. win your conference? you are in, and we don't care if you beat an undefeated alabama to do it, and we don't care if you beat a two loss stanford team to do it. you are in. we want to add some at large (in the nfl they call them wildcards), then fucking do that. but make sure that we don't put the nfc and the afc on the same side of the bracket. wins and losses. not margin of victory. not style points. not eyeball tests. i think this will have the benefit of making conference rivalries pretty important. if you can't progress to the championship unless you beat your conference mates, it really highlights the rivalries. right now, with the championship we got, all we'll get is sec fellatio the whole fuckin game. and i think it's bad for the sport. if it is all sec all the time, then audiences will wander away that aren't in the south. i say that fully well knowing that texas is joining the sec. the hype machine hypes the south, and the hype machine is the gasoline for recruiting. the nfl has a draft, which introduces parity, along with the salary cap. cfb is the wild west. my point is that the south might strangle the national aspect of the sport. maybe espn has run demographic data to understand that the south is the biggest audience for college football. if they aren't careful, the south might become the only audience for college football, because the championship is only running through there right now.
  14. also, those are real tournaments, i guess. much different than what we are dealing with here. you have to progress through stages to get to the championship in a tournament, not win one game.
  15. then they should've put them on the same side of the bracket.
  16. it wasn't about his opinions. it's that he went full troll, and was pretty goddamned unabashed about it. then when that was pointed out to him and he got a warning he went into the troll stratosphere and started harassing moderators, and the fucking owner of the site. yall seem to have it all wrong. when people get suspended, it has nothing to do with their opinions. it has to do with unwarranted personal attacks or trolling. plenty of posters have been warned for attacking johnny sack, for instance. just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. fuck's sake, the victimhood here is fucking mind blowing sometimes. don't troll. it's as easy as that.
  17. i was at a strip club when stoops ran that last score up against oklahoma state, and i knew then that we were out. the stripper on my lap sensed my disappointment and gave me the only free lapdance i've ever had in my life. "i'm sorry, sugar, this one is on me." i'll never forget it, haha. i can laugh about it now, but imagine getting a fucking pity lapdance because ou scored a late game touchdown in bedlam.
  18. i blame it on blake gideon. kidding. kind of. but also chip brown. we should've edged ou out. we didn't because ou were the darlings back then. we fucking beat them. that should have been that. that was some bullshit.
  19. i happen to think that it should be impossible for two teams from the same conference to meet in the championship game. it completely skews the balance of power, and provides much needed hype for recruiting. the committee did this on purpose, and it stinks to high heaven. sec! sec! sec! in what other conference sport is that even fucking possible? why even have conferences if that can happen? we will never ever in our lives see a cowboys - eagles super bowl, and you know what? that's fine with me.
  20. he's just doing his job. stanning for the sec
  21. still had a puncher's chance if the coaches don't shit all over the sideline
  22. so your 4th down play is to throw short of the marker? great playcalling jackass
