  1. I should mention that I cut into medallions first instead of trying to get the internal temperature just right on the entire, oblong section of backstrap. Also I adjust a little bit for less salt.
  2. This is how I have been cooking venison backstraps for the past few years. Recommended. https://honest-food.net/venison-steak-diane/
  3. Wondered when the Asian jokes were going to show up.
  4. I have a recipe I use to make smoked amberjack dip and the State/Feds (forget which) messed with AJ regs now they're never in here the same time as grouper/snapper. Haven't made it in years. Watched the second video: I might be tempted to keep a couple of 5lb jacks and try the fish dip recipe with JCs one time. Not sure what the game warden would say if he opened up a cooler/hatch and found a pile of JCs on ice; but it'd be an interesting conversation.
  5. Anyone in the area with kids should grab that NEF 410 for $150. Think they're tits up and no longer making that very handy, snake killing / kid training firearm.
  6. I have smoked several large snakes with 22lr rat shot out of a rifle. Wasn't keen on getting terribly close either
  7. Sighted-in two 308s this afternoon. Got a couple more guns to dial in on the next range trip.
  8. Subscribed (despite the thread shitters early on). Got one of these at the hunting camp. Someone post up some breakfast tacos and hash-browns please.
  9. Glad someone said this. I am having a hard time getting my 8YO son to cast and catch his own fish. I am regularly getting pissy about it and I start snapping at the boy which creates a bad dynamic. I was thinking about posting on the Surly Dads thread as this is occurring after flag football practices, trying to shoot the Red Ryder, casting and practicing casting... Turn around at the end of the weekend and realize all I've done is ride an 8YO into the ground.
  10. I have now run my 2018 Tundra with 38 gal tank down to the low fuel light twice. Low fuel light seems to come on with about 6 or 7 gallons left in the tank. Not 100% sure all 6 or 7 gallons are usable but they're there in a pinch. A little bit annoying but just something to keep in mind.
  11. Opinions are like assholes but I like the Michelin LTX A/T2s. Good bite on a slimy boat ramp or the two track leading to the deer lease with absolutely zero road noise. I am a big fan of the Michelin LTX series overall. As long as you rotate and document the rotations the warranty is really strong. If you were looking for something more aggressive I plan on putting a set of Goodyear DuraTracs on my weekend Jeep Wrangler when the current BFGs run out. Wrangler guys seem to love the DuraTracs as a crossover tire for daily driving and wheeling. Just some thoughts; I am not a tire expert.
  12. Got a pic of my Tundra doing its truck thing this weekend
  13. I have a 2018 and I agree 100%
  14. Went deep dropping in the GOM yesterday for the first time. "Ling cod talk not going away" but we caught an Eastern Scorpion Fish that looked pretty similar to a small Ling Cod. Looking for a pic but I may have to text the group. Wahoo trolled on the way home with no luck. Mill pond flat 50mi South of Panama City FL
  15. Also the puny trolling motor mount from Gator Trax broke under the weight of the new Minn Kota I installed. Local welding shop is run by anglers they fabbed this up for me. We could mount a kicker outboard on it if we had to.
  16. I had a local shop re-do the wiring and fuel system on my "technical duck boat". The boat is 14YO and serves as a tidal creek running, rock hopping, redfishing machine. I was getting a little bit uncomfortable with the rats nest wiring job done by one previous owner or another. Also replaced the hydro turf which costs about 3X as much as it should.
  17. While we're on the subject I recommend the batteries they sell at Advance Auto Parts. If you look for a coupon code online you can usually get a big discount. They will normally install the battery for you at the store. I have had good luck with the Autocraft Platinum AGMs across several vehicles. They have a three year replacement warranty and there are enough AAP locations around that you could probably jump off and limp to one with a problem. Have a coke and some peanuts while the employee is swapping you out for a fresh AGM battery.
  18. Ah shit. Team Surly Florida checking in here. Need to keep that thing out of the GOM.
  19. Bought a new battery and Auto Zone ran the standard starter /alternator test. Kid working at Auto Zone said that the alternator reading was "high voltage" instead of the normal "OK" readout. Any reason to be concerned? Former battery went from serviceable to "deader than Elvis" literally overnight. OEM Batt with 65K miles on the vehicle.
  20. Anyone running granular stuff through a broadcast spreader for long lasting, area fireant control? I have used the stuff from Home Depot in the past with good results. Interested to see if you Texas guys have something that's preferred. Working with almost an acre of centipede grass and wet conditions.
  21. Looking for a recommendation. Wife and kids can't eat it too hot so I am looking for a sauce to kick-up my individual bowl. Don't want anything with too strong of its own flavor. I just want to spice up the meaty/savory/salty taste of the chili itself. I live in Florida so anything super local will have to be internet available. Scorned Woman maybe? I don't have any at the house but I remember it was pretty hot.
