  1. posted by a teacher from an elementary school in my son's district, in response to some parents' comments today regarding the rainy day pickup: Please give us grace as we figure out how to keep your students safe in light of the Uvalde massacre & the new safety procedures we are working out. The first week of dismissal is always a bit messy and chaotic. We were told parents are supposed to wait outside and doors are to remain closed. We escort children out of the building to their families so essentially everyday is like rainy day dismissal at my campus.
  2. it's even worse than the recapture bullshit itself -- after the pitiful funding allotment the state sets per student is met in other districts, all those sweet extra millions of Austin's property taxes goes into the general fund. For Abbott to fuck around at the border with, do culture warring, or any other fucking thing he or the lege feels like doing. The state has a $27 bil surplus right now, and AISD is tens of millions in the red, so can't pay teacher salaries, meet special ed requirements, or fix all the failing AC systems. It's a fucking shell game that should be illegal.
  3. I knew someone would come with the provincial shoulder-check, but Houston 'burbs be Houston 'burbs to me.
  4. "Patriot Mobile" wtf. How does this company have all these spare dollars to throw around? Guess it's a nice distraction from the fact that internet porn is more easy and likely to be accessed by minors and way more egregious than words in a book
  5. "But no! It's not a 'Don't Say Gay' law! The queers are treated just like the normal kids, you just can't talk about sexy things!" --- dipshit Republican
  6. fuck that full-on fascist hamhock. His dreams of authoritarianism are more focused and less cartoonish than Trump's. Dangerous shit.
  7. and this excuse by Graham that he was just using his investigatory function in the course of potentially legislating mail-in ballots/certifying the election and such is total, transparent horseshit
  8. Couldn't put my finger on it 'til now, but Oz looks and sounds like late-era Dee Dee Ramone.
  9. Wasn’t that bitch supposed to be brought up on ethics charges? Corrupt to the core, all of that cabinet
  10. Fucking this. It's why I said earlier that fetus existence, and not even viability, is deemed superior to any rights a breathing woman has. This has gotten to an absurd extreme quickly, and should alert everyone to the fact there is no limit the R's won't reach for. The "they won't come for me" aphorism re: Nazi Germany is entirely in play.
  11. Way to ensure Liz loses with the maga crowd -- they hate anything associated with GWB And Dick comes across like an old, dollar-store version of Westworld Yul Brynner
  12. Wow, rooting for you, Stringer. We need a hug emoji. Sounds like they aren't messing around with the intensity of your treatment, so a better sign than many of the apathy/misdiagnosis stories I've heard. I guess you're in Austin, so let us know if any of us surlies can do anything.
  13. ... so Nicole sends noodz?? Waiting Congrats SB, live large.
  14. I really enjoyed the video about strodes. Would love to live with a transport system and streets much more like Amsterdam than the horrible concrete jungles we have here.
  15. Re: a brain and talent drain, the powers that be won't give a single, solitary shit because the sound of that drain is the reddening of Texas.
  16. This is essentially the situation in Montana, from a piece on NPR. Case law ruled that abortion is protected in the state constitution. Now comes the R push to get new maga judges on the state supreme court. This battle will never end.
  17. Dude FFS.... I posted an article I had read. Was not "pushing a narrative" because in fact, I'd very much like that narrative to not be true. And whether there is truth to it remains to be seen, instead of doing a victory lap from one state's ballot initiative, we all need to stay vigilant as hell.
  18. Businesses before people, of course.
  19. The problem in Texas isn't so much the people who vote as it is all those who don't. This is the hardest state in which to vote (obv. by design). And has the lowest voter participation rate (as a result), from what I've read. And there are a fuck-ton more urban poor people here than there are in Kansas, for instance, who are barely surviving and couldn't be less politically engaged. No FW:FW:FW's in the living hand-to-mouth and barely staying out of jail segment. Mobilize a bunch more of the don't-vote segment of Texas and we coast to a purple or even blue future. Overcoming any burgeoning valley Republican contingent not included in this .
  20. Everyone with eyes could see the chicanery coming like a slow-motion train wreck back when he installed Patel and Miller after losing the election. JFC
  21. As far as funerals, maybe the coward read the room. At least one of the families didn't want him there because their slain daughter didn't like him. Smart girl.
