  1. I can't picture him being willing and able to run for POTUS
  2. the "something is going on" is that they very purposely failed to do anything to require weatherization or other actions sorely needed before this winter and want to proactively be loud and blame another entity well before the shit hits the fan again? What am I missing
  3. They know exactly what they did, they expect us to believe they all missed the year 2022 in their own legislation? Grift, gaslight, and deflect, they all got the memo. Third-world countries have nothing on us in the corruption department. And they'll get away with it. Unless.....I really don't want a bad winter, but I really want these assholes to be held accountable by the public, just at any level FFS. This is malfeasance on a grand scale. We all saw it coming but damn if it still isn't like turning your back to the waves just once and getting dragged under again.
  4. Yes please. This is some weird-ass incel talk going on in here.
  5. After all this time in my central-ish Austin bubble, I finally encountered one of these nutters in the wild. The fam and I went out to eat last night. Some rando guy from another table saw my son eating with his mask down under his chin (kid's 11 and we're not doing any indoor dining...you have to go thru the restaurant to get seated on the patio, so we have masks). He comes over and stands over me and gets right up close in my face (both of us maskless) and says, "I was told to tell you that you have a beautiful son." [Cue my hackles starting to rise]. Me: Oh, thank you. Him: But that mask isn't what's going to protect him. Me: Uh...we're just following the science. And he's too young to get vaccinated. Him: Well God is looking out for him (can't recall exact dialogue, was already a couple margs in) Me: Dude....he's not even wearing it right now, because we're outside, eating. Him: I know. But it doesn't do anything. And I was just compelled to tell you. Me: You said you were told to tell me...by who? Him: ...the Holy Spirit. Me: Uh ok, man. Whatever. That was kind of it, he went back to sit with his wife. Then after they left, we were told they had paid for our meal. Fucking bizarre behavior.
  6. The natural political and physical evolution of Miss Togar, 40+ years on.
  7. meehhhh, my 11-yr-old 6th grader just got the order to quarantine due to Covid close contact. FML...next week is going to be brutal.
  8. my only knowledge of Roma was randomly stumbling upon it in a google image search years ago. Several of the first images were of some headless folks in a field. Kind of put me off lunch plans in Roma forever.
  9. So, Joe Jaworski is running against Paxton, and Mike Collier is running against Patrick (again). They seem like decent candidates but agree the name recognition is pretty weak. Being the grandson of Watergate prosecutor Leon Jaworski is at least something though. Regarding Governor, as much as those of us who pay attention have criticisms of the Castro bros, I think one of them could make a decent run against Abbott. Time to man up.
  10. I don't think Huffhines has a chance. While I've been voting in the R primaries for a while just to vote against all these horribles that keep getting in anyway, there are no circumstances under which I'd vote for Abbott. Let the chips fall where they may.
  11. Anyone who gives a shit about whether some other random family might use a puberty blocker (which is temporary) in consultation with a doctor, because they are potentially dealing with the most stigmatized situation you can encounter, can fuck right off. How the fuck do people asserting much rights/muh freedoms reconcile this authoritarianism?
  12. Our secretary tested positive.... she passed out, fell, and had to get 7 staples. Needs to be in the hospital but had to be moved to one with any space. So all of us in the office have been "exposed." Good job to our agency heads who thought it a smart idea to bring us all back into the office at once, during Stage 5 of this shit (and on the first day of AISD, no less).
  13. The data I read showed that myocarditis occurred in that group at least twice as often from Covid than from the vaccine. That's the relevant comparison in my opinion.
  14. When you conceive, generally you're already "2 weeks pregnant." Cool how that works. By the time you miss a period, you're 4 weeks -- and that's only if you have regular cycles. It's total bullshit -- once you also factor in the 72 hr waiting period, and the two appointments you have to have, this is a total ban on abortion. Media needs to stop pussyfooting around with the "almost" stuff. And I guess everyone that is ever going to rape has already raped at least once, so just get those guys and we're golden. JFC
  15. Counterpoint: Institutional disadvantages make it extremely difficult for D's to capture the presidency and both houses of Congress (never mind what R chicanery has done to the judiciary), and when they do get that level of power, they refuse to exercise it.
  16. Taking a step back, I find it really gross how the actualities of this issue are, once again, being discussed over women's heads by people for whom it's really all academic. I could go into my own personal experience of shitty choices foisted upon me when I was young, but what's the fucking point? People for whom this is black and white, rather than a sad, complicated shades-of-grey issue soaked in a history of racial and gender inequity, will never care. When people in such large numbers disagree, and some or many of those people on both sides can be characterized as rational, the default should be that the individual with personal autonomy gets to choose.
  17. the only situation I've used mine for is travel to the Bahamas. So, International travel to some countries.
