  1. yes that's it, in a nutshell. The only functioning check left in the particular political climate we inhabit here, today, is the court system. And Trump is desperately trying to break down that last guardrail.
  2. I agree that this is more about the taxpayers picking up the fee (once again) for Dotard's misconduct rather than keeping the issue away from the public .... I mean DNA and stuff would in theory be devastating but you can't ever prove this wasn't consensual in Trumpkin eyes and they give no fucks --- and why not stick us all with the tab if his campaign has already been uber-raided by His Vaginess
  3. never understood why people pay any attention to Joe Rogan
  4. JFC. Yes, women are paid unequally and are often not paid at all for their labor, around the world, and C19 is going to affect them disproportionately. The less educated women are and the fewer opportunities they have, the more children they have ... and that's a vicious cycle that perpetuates poverty. Patriarchal insistence upon views regarding the inferiority/sexuality/menstrual cycles of girls and women is an enormous aspect of keeping half the population down in huge swaths of the world. Even here, we hem and haw about equal pay requirements because holy shit, can't regulate the Corporate Gods. As we forget that it's not just "women" benefiting from equal pay regs only--'cause who gives a shit about them.--women also happen to be part of every community, and nearly every single family and household. So equal pay would benefit even dumb Trumpers iffen they got wimminfolk in their lives whom they allow to work outside the home. The "othering" by dudes and especially white dudes is really fucking tiresome. P.S. where should I be seeing that the UN says there'd be no poverty without patriarchy?
  5. I don't look at this thread ever really, but I saw your post was on Friday and just wondering how you're doing. I can relate to nearly every word. Not doing well but between work, family, and neighbors, seems like you always have to put on your competent face. People talk about others struggling, but seems like that should be reserved for the super hard luck cases who are unemployed, business going under, etc. Anyway, I hear you.
  6. One specific person in office was meant to fix all the things? Huh ok...well tell it to the obstructionist extraordinaire Moscow Mitch. Or maybe you prefer the guy who just destroys and makes it all worse? Vote or don't vote, no one is saying you have to vote at all...if you're a Trump fan, own it
  7. It's called sexual assault. yeah I was hesitant to call it that in my context of growing up in Dallas 'burbs where sexual assault would occur against high school girls only on days ending in y, and it was never ever acknowledged... other than to celebrate it or shame a girl accusing anyone. And then the idea of it happening to a guy -- holy shit not possible
  8. Now that could account for poor/ignorant whites. I don't know the thinking of Black Trumpists other than possible opportunism because Trump clearly hates black people going back a looong way. "Ungrateful thugs" was a nice one my dad repeated from the Trump/Fox News machine.
  9. AND I go to MSN's compendium of media and one top headline is "Jacob Blake's family says they have no pastor" another says "Trump alleges shadowy forces are helping Biden" neither are Fox news or affiliated ... and without context -- if you don't click --they only help the Dotard. Fucking pathetic ... one thing I don't doubt is that all media want a close race
  10. We did this to my parents when they stayed in our house as we were at the hospital with our son being born. No Fox News for you! Next!
  11. ^^ Agree....but I do find it amusing that Texas is now considered a pink state.
  12. I'm not of the belief that Biden can get Texas. I don't trust the fucking suburbs at ALL. If it happens, it'll be people in the cities voting in force, specifically people who don't usually vote in force -- minorities and young people. Obviously not saying anything groundbreaking here. I did a tiny bit of my part today in being an influence on my UT-attending niece whose family is uber-conservative and Christ-IAN, while she's starting to open her eyes to real life and the fact people she cares about experience discrimination. Told her how important it is for college students to vote, gave her links to register/request absentee ballot etc. And said, share with your friends-- your cool friends only --- kidding not kidding.
  13. Man, if the former college kid's story is accurate, that's abusive on her part. I get all the jokes and whatnot, but his version is that he really didn't seek or want that, which is possible...and I see how he can feel like he was subjected to predatory behavior. That's not "ah cool she lets her freak flag fly." It's just gross and wrong.
  14. JFC. I thought maybe his quote was possibly out of context. But the video is SO much worse than even the quote. That is some straight-up fascism. Interspersed with lies and an utter lack of evidence. And then more fascism.
  15. I never followed that saga closely, but didn't she have some mental/emotional issues and had also lost custody of her child? It was all so gross.
  16. I didn't see this posted elsewhere, though guessing it has been. But it belongs here. I mean we all sorta knew it went down like this but still....the details are a fucking disgrace. A show of hands to vote for child separation after Miller demands it, proclaiming that not to do so is unAmerican, and the country will never be the same if separations don't happen. No one voiced a concern for the kids or the morality of this. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/trump-cabinet-officials-voted-2018-white-house-meeting-separate-migrant-n1237416 And analysis of the report: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/white-supremacy-was-behind-child-separations-and-trump-officials-went-along-critics-say/ar-BB18gh0o
  17. No, foreigners don't jump the queue. It's a surgery that would have been entirely covered (subsidized) under the Canadian health system had we been citizens, but is one of many things insurers like to exclude here. So it would have been out of pocket for us either way, but their out of pocket was almost 120% less expensive.
  18. True. My spouse had a major surgery not covered by insurance, and we went to Canada. All out of pocket, it cost literally less than half of what it would cost here, and there was world-class care and a world-class doctor (no exaggeration).
  19. La Zona Rosa
  20. Alabama 3 was the best show I ever randomly walked into during any SXSW. It was a revelation to me that blues, country, electronica, rap, and gospel could be melded together so perfectly. And by a bunch of brits no less. Their live show was fucking awesome. The singer died within the last couple of years from a heart attack. Or "heart attack." So your story checks out ...
  21. I went to school with an Igor Fuksman
  22. Called my "senators" Cruz & Cornyn.... left voicemail. Sent emails too. That's all we can do I guess, so feel like we should all do it. Every day, I am shocked at how bad things are getting....and how little power and will the D's have to resist the fall of the republic.
  23. you might not like his pro-life bullshit then. He'll never get my support with that weak-ass white male pro-birth agenda.
