  1. Ireland allowed a vote in which the citizens chose to make it legal after a woman died under very similar circumstances as those under which Texas women are, or soon will be, dying. If there haven't been deaths here, it's just a matter of time because a lot of shit that happens during pregnancy that leads to death is not that uncommon. Perhaps publicizing a death will make a difference. But we don't get to have ballot measures like other states... so less freedom than other states.... or even Ireland. Yet the Freedom Flag Eagle Patriot bullshit myth persists.
  2. This guy (the victim) was a barber at the Crestview barber shop in Austin before he apparently moved to San Antonio. Gave my son his first haircut and many more thereafter. Nicest guy you could ever meet, and he and his partner were foster parents to a number of kids. Weird, brutal murder. https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2023/04/27/suspect-arrested-nearly-one-year-after-man-was-found-slain-in-stone-oak-apartment-police-say/
  3. The analysis seems tortured to reach the obvious conclusion they want. Start with the continuous nomenclature of "unborn child" rather than a scientific or medical term. And of course it comes down to "legislation didn't specify or define every last term, so in a battle between ill/dying woman and unborn child, gotta go with the 'child" being equal or more important, i.e. no right to abortion care." Judicial activism continues to run amok.
  4. I found it irritating that the LHN guys -- Fozzy, Robison etc. -- called out the Longhorns' committing so many penalties as part of their problem, without the remotest hint about the lopsided calls/no calls. Did they not actually watch the game or are they just not allowed to say anything like that? It's our hometown crew FFS.
  5. I figured this team would be our worst matchup. But I wouldn't expect to play next week and win
  6. Was it Quinn rolling out and panicking or were those the actual plays meant to be called.
  7. I am hungover AF today. My mom sits down right next to me with her People magazine and proceeds to start reading to me every single stupid thing in there. Has to comment on it all too, like who looks good for their age, who doesn't... oh and Bad Bunny and Kylie broke up. Seriously. I'm grunting mostly but also remarking here and there like "who possibly cares about those people" and she still can't read the room. Starting to think she is actually trying to piss me off on purpose. Out of here tomorrow, yay.
  8. oh god can someone embed the vid of Ron as Randy in A Christmas Story that is posted in those comments?
  9. Always thought there should be mother/son equivalents ... call them Blue Balls.
  10. Dennis Quaid has never not been bad. He may have some charisma but apart from that...ugh.
  11. I mean why should the state's top criminal attorney follow the law? Concepts like standing, jurisdiction, federalism.... that's for them ivory-tower elites!
  12. atomheart stahp. The GOP are always scared but that's just who they are, it doesn't mean the see a damned thing encouraging for their opposition. They have power and they work to cement it forever, I don't think it's deeper than that.
  13. Fucking finally. The cowardly silence of corporations has been deafening in the last few years. At least this is something.
  14. This may be the most American post I've seen all year.
  15. Re: Brisket -- Yeah it's fucking stupid and crazy. The court ruled against Paxton because that's the only result the law dictates. You think the CCA is bad now, wait until Paxton's candidates get in and don't know what the fuck they're doing at ALL. I'd add just as an aside --while Judge Hervey is conservative, she does a shit ton of work for actual innocence projects, along with pushing legit forensic science training and education for the judiciary and bar. A net positive for the criminal justice system. I really can't wait for the finding out portion of the equation for Kenny. I'm really sure now that it must be just around the corner.....
  16. It needs to be understood -- Texas is a DANGEROUS place to be pregnant, to raise a family, to be a woman of childbearing age, to love a woman of childbearing age. This is an anti-family, anti-life regime.
  17. I will never not chuckle at the term "sex pest"
  18. I feel like there should be much more civil unrest. Instead, people and corporations (sorry, redundant) have just become completely apathetic. We even get the college nat'l championship game in Houston despite all the fuckery here. Yay?
  19. Isn't this essentially an ex parte communication to parties who may be bound by the TRO, and an attempt to threaten consequences for conduct that is consistent with the ruling? And the idea that this society would tolerate any kind of state surveillance on a non-criminal citizen with intent to prevent (not investigate but PREVENT) a potential "crime".... well this is way fucking beyond abuse of power -- bravo Kenny. There are no fucking limits for this evil shit. We are way beyond what even Ireland was doing a while back before they came to their fucking senses there. But we continue to be frogs in the boiling pot where it's already on fire, just taking it up the ass in this state. I hope one of the parties sues his ass and makes this a case everyone hears about.
  20. How in the world is Kash Patel not indicted for a myriad of his actions, or is he one of the Georgia co-defendants? I forget
  21. You know what would have at least as much effect on school safety and wouldn't cost a thing other than political courage? Some minimally sane gun control measures, like 18 year olds not being able to buy firearms.
  22. On some level, Patrick and his ilk know that if a trans person isn't allowed to use a public restroom that matches their identity, that person also could not use the restroom that matches their birth-assigned gender for the reason you state; it would be unsafe and would cause disruption and possibly violence. Their goal is to exclude trans people from public life. I mean, how are you going to go around in the world if you could never use a restroom while dining out, shopping, running errands etc.? It's a policy purposely designed to further exclude, stigmatize, and marginalize.
  23. if FSU gets "credit" for winning with their 3rd string, we should also get some credit for winning 2 games w/our back-up no-experience QB but no one talks about that
  24. Just because it's an opportunity to post what may be the most intentionally bad video ever
