  2. Why in the hell would anyone do that voluntarily?

    RIP Chuy's

Chuy’s may be the most overrated place in the history of places. When I lived in Austin, I tried it twice and it sucked both times. There is one in The Woodlands that I have never been to in my 17 years of living here.
  4. There is no way the the highest wind gusts for Ike were only between 40-50 mph in The Woodlands and the first chart seems to indicate. The damage is The Woodlands and surrounding areas from Ike were much greater than Beryl.
  5. The next week looks to be wet...like your mom.
  6. I think he meant Austin as the center of state government.
  7. I’m a big weather dork. This new Progressive commercial is perfect for me.
  8. Technically you are not in a drought. Your area is abnormally dry….like your mom.
  9. This is exactly what I have planned for my house. I’ll have it set up in a few weeks. The generator is out of stock and I need to arrange the soft start installation.
  10. This is exactly what I am doing. I posted in the “grid failure” thread that I have already scheduled an electrician to install a 50 Amp connection that will power whatever I want in the house…just not simultaneously. I may need to get a soft start installed on my AC, but the 13kw to fuel I’m purchasing so be more than enough to power the downstairs. The whole solution should cost less than $4k.
  11. Cancun still experienced 80-100 mph wind gusts which is higher than most places experienced in the Houston area.
  12. I think it has more to do with the types of trees. They don’t have any really tall trees and palm trees seem to be resilient to the wind. Pine trees can only take so much and take a lot with them when they fall….i guess.
  13. A colleague of mine was in Cancun when Beryl made landfall as a strong Cat 2. He said they rode it out in their room. They never lost power. They never lost internet or cell phone coverage. Once the storm had passed, everything was cleaned up and the party resumed. How in the fuck is the “Energy Capitol of the World” worse than handling hurricanes than Mexico???
  14. The one I’m looking at is 13KW, which would be enough to run many of my appliances. I wouldn’t be able to run them all at the same time. I also want the ability to have multiple sources of fuel. Gas became problematic for a day or two after the storm had passed. I have a natural gas hook up for my old grill that I can connect to easily and propane is always easy to find.
  15. I’m getting a bigger generator that is tri-fuel capable and having an electrician install a transfer switch or whatever it is called so I can plug the generator right into the house. I want to be able to have the downstairs operate normally and to have options for powering the generator.
  16. We had people on this site theorizing that the Trump campaign set this up and it was all fake…even days after this occurred. There is plenty of stupid to go around.
  17. It’s been really nice to walk out on the porch to take a one hit and not hear generators throughout the hood. The only sounds out tonight are those of the ACs running trying to cool down some houses that have been running hot for a few days now. We’ve already done some laundry and run the dishwasher. Goddamn, I had forgotten what it was to be operating normally.
  18. After this, I’m getting a way of plugging in a generator into my breaker box. I’m also going to upgrade my generator so I can run my downstairs AC at least.
  19. Drink Way ahead of you! I plan on being hungover at work tomorrow.
  20. Finally got power about an hour ago. I feel for you that are still without. Fuck Centerpoint!
  21. Conspiracy theories have been posted here too.
