he has no serious interest in Tech. He loved Arkansas largely because it gives him a similar outdoor experience to the Colorado schools at a significant discount. (Yes, RMNP is a better playground than the Ozarks, but for a Texas kid it's still a step up, and he has trout fishing in 3 states within 1.5 hrs of campus. (He's a big fly fisherman)

Same with my kid. Loves mountain biking, fishing and camping.  Loved CU, but aid is unlikely and he has $120k to work with. Touring Ark soon.

I just pray he doesn't go to Aggie.  There is nothing to do but drink beer and the campus sucks ass and is massive. He's got a couple budfies going; they are not what I'd consider positive influences.

it sucks that senior year grades don't count towards admissions because he's crushing his all AP workload but he kinda fucked off freshman year and didn't know to take athletics as pass fail so it brought his GPA down.

  2. Question. I'm staying downtown - historic district. Plan on going to the fair around 9; but looking for a quick egress to head back to Austin.  Should i park in the private lots outside the fair lot, or take the train or bus to and from  downtown?

I don't mind walking. I've always packed in west campus for football and Crown for b ball vs sitting in traffic.

  3. Harvey dropped 50 inches of Rain of Houston in 4 days. The Memorial Day floods in Houston were widely less than 10 inches of rain, but Meyerland was basically entirely washed out. But yeah, 18 inches of rain in less than a day isn't anything.

What is it like, being the closest thing anyone has ever seen to a Helobious? Like what does it feel like?
    I'd guess "blissfully unaware."

Sucks. I’ve done a bunch of fossil diving there over the years. Great town with badass hole in the wall restaurants and bars. I’m worried for them and everyone else

Can you elaborate on "fossil diving". Very curious and two overlapping hobbies amongst my scores of hobbies.

I think the migrants are smart enough to not fly right into the storm. You can use live radar (birdcast.info) to see where they're moving and basically nothing is passing through Florida at the moment, nor are they expected to tonight.

Mostly true, but I've been 130 miles out in the gulf and had woodland songbirds amass on our boat. Gave water when they would take it. They usually flew off when we got underway.

When Harvey hit, there were a bunch of frigatebirds and all sorts of coastal/oceanic terns being seen at Lake Travis and Walter E Long Lake. There will be a bunch of stuff you never see from land being pushed right across the entire state of Florida.

That's fucked up. And who knows where the fuck these birds finally end up. Gotta be a death sentence for migratory birds.

I lost an entire colony of Purple Martins a few years ago after decades of success. Some weather event got them.

    Any bird lawyers here?

The elections in this country are so fucked. I've completely come around to the idea that taxpayer dollars should fund candidate elections equally, and that's fucking it. We need to outlaw political commericals, we need to outlaw all fucking social media advertising. Campaigning should be rallies, town hall interviews, and fucking debates, and those should be posted unedited and aired on telivision live and in replays over and over, and that should fucking be it. Crack down on most of the ways to fucking lie easily. Fuck.

And no more goddamn fucking signs in the Public ROW. Private property only.

    Never happening though.

I'm pretty much at the point that we deserve whatever comes next.  Whether it's dotard winning again or qanon adjacent stochastic terrorism, we just brought it all on ourselves.  Unbelievable.

I feel like all this was foisted on me; deserved got nothing to do with it.

it's upsetting to me that i have become so misanthropic about an enormous subset of americans that i am sitting here with an ahmadinejad meme face at the thought of a quarter million fucking shit-for-brains in the southeast that follow "healthranger" for information about hurricane warnings actually heading his warnings to not follow evacuation orders and ultimately ridding the rest of our society of their stupid fucking useless lives that are more likely than not a complete and utter fucking drag on our overall prospects as a species and as a culture.

that's not the best thing. i should probably re-evaluate.

No they just burden our Federal resources whilst ceaseless bitching about the Federal Govt.  Every asshole I've known that needed rescuing by the Coast Guard, and it's quite a few, willfully ignored all common sense and safety protocols and put themselves in danger with a cavelier attitude; then begged for help "how could this happen".

Imagine getting news from a guy named HealthRanger who's top 3 posts are WEAPONIZED WEATHER.

Good news everyone, he has over a quarter million followers and that post has been viewed half a million times...

This shit weaves through the internet and ends up infecting somewhat normal people. My Wallpaper guy: "your going to Denver????, oh be careful, Venezuela gangs are taking over."

    Fucking sucks.

    But MSM is da debil.

he's said multiple times he's fucked if trump loses. I can't wait to see what that means.

Pollution fines; crashing companies, crippling drug addiction, no friends, to begin with.

Gotta be some illicit sex shit. Maybe Trump has something on him like he does with lady bugs

It used to be a skill to put someone down but not be blunt about it. The type of insult that went over the head of a less intelligent person. Trump's insults are walking up to you and slapping you in the face.

He's too cowardly in person for this analogy to work. He's just and angry boomer key board warrior that can't stop whining.

I agree that Houston overreacted with Rita. Mainly it was due to the the reported horrors of NOLA and the Superdome. Everyone thought Houston would resemble Mad Max if they were stuck.

Well Houston was spared a lot of impact when it wobbled east and basically wiped Cameron LA of the map. 100 miles to the west and shit Would have been bad.

It uncharteristically moved Northwest and did a lot of damage NW of Houston.

If we ever wanted to test the idea of killing a hurricane with a nuclear bomb, now is the perfect time.  I'm sure Tampa would be OK with it.  What's the worst that could happen? Mutant-Florida-Man?
