Our 4yo and 3yo fell asleep like this on Saturday night on the pull-out couch while watching movies. [Heart-Eye Emoji!] BTW, hang tight for those of you that are having a tough time. Ours are 19 months apart, so we had 2-under-2 for a bit. It may seem like it sucks now, but you'll probably reach a point down the road where you *wish* you could just wake up at 3am and rustle up a bottle to get them through the night and stuff like that. Or to have an hour or two just looking into your young baby's eyes, singing, shushing, while alternating between "damn, I love you so much" and "GO TO SLEEP MFER." Try to keep that perspective and realize that, like the cheesy song says, "you're gonna miss this." It's the advice we got many times over and it worked great for us.

Nope, just a blond guy with long hair. And the dumb jabroni that kept cutting people off. (My wife ran with me in 2012, though)

Fourth time at the festival, and I ran today and yesterday for my fourth and fifth runs. I'm in the light blue shirt and my BIL is over my left shoulder and behind me. Dropped my newspaper so I had to touch a bull with my bare hand today. The day before, I was able to catch 3 bulls with my newspaper. I rate today's run first (bare hand touch) and yesterday's third. Second place was my very first run, when I entered the arena between two groups of bulls when they'd split up earlier, and the crowd (Like 10k+? Think a gladiator looking arena) was going buckwild and I came out of the tunnel into the arena. I also got tripped up in a pile up ahead of my and have road rash on my face, arm, and knee. Today was my first injury in 5 runs over the 4 times I've been to the fiesta. I will be back if I'm in W. Europe in early July, like now, but wouldn't make a special trip for it BIL is a big Louisiana homer/Mardi Gras guy and says the fiesta surrounding everything is better than Mardi Gras. Really, the fiesta is great with fireworks and concerts every night, brass bands in the street, drunken revelry (but not threatening dbag drunkenness, per my wife), and tons of other surprises you just kinda wander into. Tag me if you ever want advice. 👍

Okay, now conference realignment is really heating up. Kazakhstan to the B12. You heard it here first.

We are living in Madrid for the summer and, duh, we should have checked whether there was going to be a NATO conference. One of the usual things like whether you have enough bedrooms in your apartment, I suppose. Anyway, this week has seen a lot of helicopters in the air and a VERY strong police presence in the city. On our walks to and from daycare in the morning and evening, we walk across Paseo de Prado/la Castellana, which is a large N/S boulevard, and it's always shut down by the police. Our kids have learned about armored vehicles, firearms, and seen more helicopters than they previously had in their entire lives. And there's been a bit of a tension in the air. But it feels safe. And my spidey sense would be up since we're here with our 4 and 2yos. (For the guy upthread who talked about his son here. Things are safe. No need to worry (famous last words? )

S/O to search function. Going to be based in Madrid for the next few months with our flight leaving this afternoon, with my wife and 4 and 3yo kids. Kids will be in daycare/camp during the weekdays while we explore the city in between a little bit of research and writing, Spanish lessons, and the gym. Fourth time in Madrid and we've done the highlights (Prado, Botin, Retiro, etc.) multiple times over, so we're looking for recommendations like the chocolateria above. Wife is between A2/B1 and I'm a solid B1, so we can get around and have basic conversations, but can't speak philosophy or anything like that. We'll be HQ'd in Malasana so we'll have pretty good Metro access to most of the city. Current plans include side trips to Paris, Pamplona, Toledo, Costa del Sol and, perhaps, 4-5 days down in Andalucia. No strong plans for Madrid other than exploring via foot, dicking around at Retiro and some playgrounds, and eating/drinking. Any recs appreciated. [As for the obvious "why Madrid when it's hot as shit?" question. We needed a city large enough to have a full-time private daycare/camp close to a cool neighborhood/city core and that took expat/ferner kids, which basically left Madrid and Barcelona. We love Barcelona, but have spent a lot of time there and, given that one of our core goals is to improve our Spanish. had some concerns about how quickly the barceloní switch to English when they hear your accent.]

If one were to look for an equivalent of CFB streams for college baseball, where would they look? Not saying I'd ever do it, but my beloved Wolverines just went up 2 on Louisville and they're gonna cut off this ESPNU split screen stream soon...

FWIW, there was a big exodus over the last 5-10 years or so from the Big 3 to Tesla and, to a lesser extent, Rivian, and to a MUCH lesser extent, jabronis like Lucid, Fisker, etc. That tide has dramatically reversed in the last year or so, especially since GM's CEO introduced "Work Appropriately" as the company's motto when it comes to work location (based on it's "Dress Appropriately" dress code). A lot of these jobs are not in the Metro Detroit area because WFH has allowed a distributed workforce. Another trend is that a lot of the people are leaving the Bay Area, Cruise employees especially, to go to lower COL areas where their salary stretches farther, but where there's a good baseline level of amenities. Think places like second tier cities (Charlotte, Nashville, etc.) or college towns. Source: I advise manufacturing companies on "stuff." My wife was medium-high up at GM for 3 years. I am constantly in touch with some folks, and still maintain contacts and keep in touch with a lot of people at other companies.

Uh, doesn't linguistic history suggest that Russians are offshoot Proto Indo-European/Ukranians and that, actually, Russians need to be brought back into the fold? Zelenskyy's social media team needs to get on this ASAP, and all Russian speaking areas need to be returned to Ukraine.

This is good technique for getting the paving sand between the pavers. Well done.

Question for lawyers - ABA rule 4.2
choripan replied to Tailgate's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Same experience here in both states in which I've practiced. They equivalent of the state's ethics commission often treats it as a he said-she said and can't take action, absent evidence that it actually, you know, did happen. But don't tell people in other forums because I could get disbarred for telling you this. -

Reporter: "Coach, why did you shoot 2s at the end there?" Juwan Howard: "Because we couldn't go for one." (WTF at the end of the game there with the post possessions)

So I bought a Z Grills ZPG-7002F grill on sale late last year based on the "we built them for other people" narrative and some long-term reviews. I am new to pellet smoking but have tried a brisket and also a chuck roast for shits and giggles. Brisket first and chuck roast second. Used Traeger Texas beef blend. Smoked at 225 until the probe hit mid 190s then manually checked the meat starting at around 200. Brisket came out good not great. Smoked until probe easily slid in/out at about 202. Had a really nice bark, was not the least bit dry, and had the right dangle. I know the smoke ring is primarily aesthetic, but was disappointed at its penetration. Overall, I would rate this BBQ that I'd be very happy with from a BBQ joint, but kinda disappointed with if I got it from a place I heard was really good. Provided I have time to do more smoking/prep, I'll probably not bother with run-of-the-mill BBQ places when I have this machine at home, but still spring for really good places. This was a chuck roast I did, just because I've seen that it's an alternative to brisket. Good smoke ring, not great bark, and it cooked up a LOT quicker because there's so much less intramuscular fat. Would not make for myself, but if I knew I'd have a few "eww, fat..." people coming out, I'd definitely throw one on. Overall, the quality of the machine itself seems average. It seems like they poured resources into what matters but not the extras or non-core items. Lower gauge steel on the lid, a number of cheaper plastic handles, wheels, etc., and the included cover didn't even last 6 months before tearing in a few places from the wind. But the controller unit and hopper do a really good job and I'm pretty happy for dipping my toes in the water with a relatively cheap machine. I feel like I got a 6/10 machine and paid for a 3/10 machine, which is really good for my scenario. *If* I stick with this a few years -- who knows, right? -- and it becomes a hobby, then at that point I'll spring for a nice one. Based on build quality and my above average use and care standards, I'd guess useful life on this is like 3-6 years.

Forgot to mention this. I have a 4yo and a 2yo. And I work. And I'm starting another venture. Saving the drive to the gym, the walk in, and all the other random BS has probably saved me 3-4 hours a week in the aggregate.

We got one around Thanksgiving. I was around 225. I've mostly been "in shape" but not beastmode at around 215 for about 5-6 years. I'm now 201.6 as of this morning and withing spitting distance of the 100s for the first time since I was in the military almost two decades ago, when I was ripped in the low 190s at 6'3". I highly recommend Peloton if you're borderline psychotically competitive, like me. I could play pick-up hoops or do something else competitive all day, but have spent maybe 4-5 dozen hours in a gym in my life (outside of required team activities like lifting). With Peloton, I can talk shit to the other people on the leaderboard, even though they can't hear me. I compete against my previous PR. I pick classes with a lot of active participants in order to compete against them, and so on. Also, I pick classes for the music. IMO, it's a big deal that they've licensed so much music so that you can jam out to great music while you ride. I've discovered some new artists while getting a workout, which is nice. I'm only 4 months in, but so long as enough other people are subscribed and active to keep the competitiveness going, I think it will remain a good fit for competitive people.

Shout out to this thread. Was in town last weekend. Rosita's is like 1/2 block from my BIL's place and I tried it. Then we did a Shoal Creek (crawfish) --> West --> Dirty --> East day drinking extravaganza and stopped by Vaquero between Dirty and East 6th. Both taquerias slammed, went hard, etc.

@4doorsMoreWhores, we have good food, just not those regional specialties. I can get tacos al pastor from a trompo, but it's like a 30 minute drive away. I can make high-quality BBQ but don't feel like tending a fire or, again, driving 25+ minutes. The savory Texas-style kolaches are, uh, something really weird and I love them. I'm 3/4 Slav and there's nothing like that in my communities. I remember my native Texan wife's surprise when I told her that kolaches are not "real" kolacky, but are instead a local creation that's totally different, but crazy delicious. @Anastasis, I did not. It was like 8am. Not sure I've seen a shift bar in Austin that opens at like 6-7am for folks getting off a midnight shift. @Lobo, I can get pizza at home! Hell, there are two Detroit-style places better than Via 313 within a couple miles of me. It's the pizza-style kolache and the hot polish kolache that I can't get, since those are just local/regional. I grew up eating traditional kolacky and, while they're okay, I love the Texas style and, in particular, those two. And, as for walking, I love walking and exploring new cities to get a feel for them in a way you can't in a bike or car. My BIL is a student at UT and the last couple years we've AirBnb'd a place for 3-4 weeks over the holidays, so I've explored the neighborhoods we've stayed in (Bouldin Creek and E.Austin/Cesar Chavez) and areas adjacent, but I've never had reason to explore that area up Lamar where the Kolache Factory is, or Hyde Park, or West Campus/Tarrytown, etc. So, really, walking is a good way to see a new city and burn calories without the intensity of my usual workout when I'm a bit hungover (or worse) every day. -

Hehe, I tried to walk at least 5 miles per day and explore new areas while I was there to make up for all the food and drank. Only so many times I can do the greatest hits. Basically picked a direction and went each day. Also, I'm a northerner and a big-time sucker for the pizza and hot polish kolaches. Can't get them at home and I'm only in Texas a few times a year. Always make sure to get them, good BBQ, and tacos al pastor from a trompo, since I can't get them at home.
