  1. I don't know what you are supposed to do when the opponent just lobs lie after lie after lie: "Dems want to implement sex changes in schools!" "Dems want to have live birth abortions!" And on and on. You can only say, "No we don't; that's ridiculous." So many times. Nowadays, anyone with a computer can create a headline or quote some nobody that the GOP can point to and say, "See! Yes they do believe in these things!" People of average intelligence should be able to see through this, but they don't because it's not what they want to hear. They want to be on Team America and Team America's message is simple: "Libs bad; own the Libs." The Dem message, or the true one anyway, is nuanced and harder to understand without putting together several layers of facts. Or at least two layers of things that can both be true: "Yes, we support a woman's right to have an abortion. No we do not agree that live birth abortions should be legal." More and more, I think you have to distill everything, dumb it down to the max and then once you are in power implement the policies you really cared about in the first place. Very, very few voters are going to know there is a difference between what you said and what you did.
  2. We missed two field goals and had a shitload of penalties. That's why we lost. Otherwise, we looked like the better team. Smart outcoached Sark in both games, imo.
  3. Nah, fuck it. Lay back and enjoy it. Me? I'm stocked up on buckets of popcorn, ammo and tradeable bullion and my family's passports are all updated.
  4. Jethro somebody, I think.
  5. The reason why this particular issue is different is that Harris was against the sale too. So these guys would not have gotten what they wanted either way.
  6. Wow.
  7. I think there is a way to thread the needle. In our profession, the word for it is "advocacy." Not lies, but an emphasis on what is good for our client and a de-emphasis on what is bad. As I have said before, the Dems need to go to a populist strategy by demonizing the rich and corporations. "The rich and corporations are the reason you don't have more money!" "If you are not making more than $100K per year in this GREAT country, it's because you are being taken advantage of and stolen from by the rich and corporations!" "We'll tax THE FUCK out of both and lower your taxes because that is what is fair and right and what George Washington would have wanted!"
  8. Sorry, dude. This was debunked upthread. The union workers weren't lied to; they were just dumb.
  9. Okay, did a 1 minute review after searching and I retract. Trump did not say during the campaign that he was in favor of the Nippon Steel deal. So the local union guys who feel betrayed by Trump's position weren't lied to, they're just dumb. This also probably doesn't fit the thread since these people were going to get fucked no matter who won.
  10. You. Happy to explain if necessary.(no sarcasm)
  11. Lies = Nothingburgers Very, very on brand.
  12. I would like to say something about the effect of tariffs, and for that matter increasing the minimum wage. For some unknown reason, every time these two things in particular are discussed, the only outcome mentioned is higher prices for consumers. What is not mentioned is that there is actually another option - corporate profits. I realize not all imported goods are from huge multinational corporations with billion dollar market caps who could afford to pay their CEOs a few mil a year less and absorb big hits to the bottom line, but the point stands that corporations actually have a choice whether to raise prices.
  13. I don't think I'll leave, but if I did and I was going to stay in the states I would go to Colorado. If shit goes down, it's harder to kill rebels in mountainous areas. In the meantime, I like to fly fish and snow ski.
  14. How do you win elections without abandoning the most vulnerable populations? Openly supporting these social causes is now a proven loser. So, your choices are 1) to abandon those causes, 2) use deception, 3) put all of the focus on the economic issues and ignore everything else during campaigns.
  15. And if you fuck up in a firefight, I guaran-gotdamn-tee you a trip out of the bush. In a bodybag!
  16. This is a perfect example of Trumpthink. Citing an article that doesn't say what they think it says for a proposition that isn't true.
  17. Great. He's going to be our next president.
  18. Ding ding ding ding ding!!!
  19. Elon gave Trump his endorsement and $119 million. The value of those two things (and whatever else he may have given him) is how much Trump owes Elon. If it's just the endorsement and the hundred million then I think what happens is that Elon is going to ask for something substantial and Trump is not going to give it to him, probably because it will be outlandish or way more material than the help Elon gave Trump. That's when the shit will go sideways.
  20. I read the story and it is possible that she made up the rapey parts to diffuse the infidelity situation. No one will ever know for sure except the two of them.
  21. So let me make sure I have this right: He was in the process of getting divorced from Wife No. 2 because he knocked up who would become Wife No. 3 when he fucked this married woman at a convention?
  22. What?! NOOOOOOO!! Goddammit!! I wanted the smug fucker in there to fail spectacularly. No it's not. We need all of these unqualified motherfuckers in there. There has to be massive carnage to overcome the stupidity of the electorate. My true hope is that it's Rudy. Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
