  1. You know that you don't actually have to do any of this stuff, right? You just have to say it a bunch of times to get elected, then do whatever you want and blame the other side when people say you didn't do what you said.
  2. This is very close to my stance as well. You would think that decreasing the number of abortions, instead of just making it illegal, would be an attractive alternative to those on the right. Sadly, I don't think it would be.
  3. America! We have heard you! The Democratic Party of the United States has always tried to be a party of the people and for the people. We recognize that we have failed in that goal. But no longer. We have heard you and we understand. Going forward, it shall be the official policy platform of the Democratic Party to do and support the following: Stop at absolute nothing to reduce undocumented and illegal immigration to zero as quickly as possible. We are asking border states to mobilize their state national guards to patrol the border with Mexico until emergency funding can be put in place to hire and train 5,000 new border patrol officers. Concurrently, we will send to the President of Mexico and regional governors a statement that our new national policy on illegal immigrant crossings is that our law enforcement officers have been instructed to not allow any illegal crosser to reach U.S. soil by any means necessary. Any foreign national inside our border illegally is subject to immediate deportation without due process of law. There is no more asylum for illegal aliens. Any asylum application, to be considered, must be filed with the appropriate authorities prior to entering the United States. We are also terminating the law whereby citizenship is automatically granted to persons born on U.S. soil. The U.S. will immediately authorize 10 million O-1 temporary worker visas that do not allow residence in the United States. Workers from Mexico may enter the United States border territories to work, but must return to Mexico every 24 hours. United States businesses will be made aware of the humongous pool of cheap labor in these regions and they will be encouraged to build factories and other facilities in these regions to take advantage of this pool of cheap labor. We will build 40 new international bridges to these workers can cross in and out of the United States to work every day. Federal income taxes on the poor and middle class will be cut. For those who make less than $45,000 the tax rate will be 0%. For those who make between $45,000 and $125,000, the tax rate will be $17.5%. The rate for those making over $600,000 is 42%. The exemption for estate tax is $7.5M per individual. The estate tax rate is 42%. The income tax on capital gains is increased to 22%. The budget deficit is a national security risk. Republicans are primarily responsible for our huge deficit even though they lie about cutting taxes and spending. No more. We are going to reduce the deficit by $10 trillion over the next 8 years. Billionaires and corporations (who have also been fucking the shit out of you by raising prices and raping and pillaging for skyrocketing profits) are going to pay for it. We are OUT of foreign wars. Rest of the world, eat a dick. Be warned, however, if you do ANYTHING to fuck with us, we will reduce your country to a glass hole in the earth. Our message: The rich and corporations are FUCKING YOU. Billionaires (like Elon Musk) have been controlling this country for decades at the expense of working Americans. That stops now. The United States is not going to be owned by a cadre of billionaires and run solely for their benefit. The United States is going to see to it that the American people are compensated by these billionaires and corporations for the vast riches they have obtained because of your hard work. They are going to pay their fair share of taxes going forward and middle class and poor Americans will keep more of their money in their wallets. Every bad thing that you have experienced is because of the rich and corporations. Now, together, we will make them pay. The Democratic Party is the party of FREEDOM. Freedom to marry who you want, freedom over your own body and healthcare, worship how you want, smoke the marijuana you want, and on and on and on. Republicans are the anti-freedom party. They want to pass more and more laws to restrict what the American people can do - abortion bans, anti-gay marriage, restrictive drug policies. Why would Americans choose less freedom? Other: Fund the ever-loving fuck out of NASA and disguise it as military spending. We can send up military satellites and test space-age weapons or whatever so that most of the funding comes out of the military budget. Jump start a program (like Apollo and the space shuttle) that allows the U.S. to send missions to the space station, the moon and to Mars. Take back space travel from private corporations (like Elon Musk's Space-X). Just like the moon landings in the late 60's and early 70's gave great national pride and a sense of togetherness to our country, the space program will do so again. It will also have the added benefit of cutting the military budget without anyone knowing and creating all sorts of new science and engineering advances, all while creating a shit ton of good jobs.
  4. The problem is that Beau Biden died and Joe didn't run in 2016.
  5. I don't know what political strategy would make a difference other than become more like the Republicans. Abandon women, minorities, working people, pro-choice, immigrants, etc.? At what point do you politically strategize yourself into becoming what it was you were fighting in the first place?
  6. My read on it is that more GA Trumptards identified as independents out of shame.
  7. Yeah. The scary part for me is that some actual smart, charismatic politician is going to realize they can win a national election with a fascist platform if they just don't have all of Trump's baggage and shitty presentation. Trump is a clown; he's a cartoon version of a fascist. We have to hope we're not in store for the real thing when this election is over.
  8. Everyone is on edge about false equivalencies. And it is a false equivalency that the GOP has moved as far right as the Dems have moved left. I think that's what is pissing people off with your posts. Certainly the tangible effects of those moves have been greater on the right (Jan. 6th, Charlottesville). And before you say "yeah, but the George Floyd/Minneapolis and Kenosha riots," those were in response to actual police brutality and murder; worthy reasons to be up in arms unlike a fake stolen election and white supremacy.
  9. Reminds me of a girl I dated once. Man, I really liked her.
  10. We recently had a pug puppy come into our lives. We already had an 80-lb yellow lab. Anyway, we can't leave the pug unsupervised in the house because she's still not house trained and also chews on everything. So we either take her with us in the car or we put her in a crate. My wife went out to take the kids somewhere and they took the dog. When they got home the dog was limping. My wife told me that she had no idea how the dog got injured; she stayed in the car in the front seat the whole time. She also told me that she put the dog in a new seatbelt/harness thing she had bought because she felt it was dangerous for the dog to be roaming around the car while she was driving. I asked my wife about the harness and how it worked and how the dog reacted to it. She said that the dog struggled with it at first until she realized she was locked in and then just sat there. We took the dog to the vet and they couldn't tell us what was wrong until they did xrays, to start. That was going to cost hundreds of dollars so I said to just wait and see if she heals on her own. The dog is still walking with a limp two days later. The only way something could have happened was when the dog was in the harness in my wife's car. I think she's lying about the dog staying put the whole time. Regardless, this fucking harness thing she bought injured our new dog and no telling how much it's going to end up costing me.
  11. I'll tell a story about probably the worst client I ever had. I was still a baby lawyer and I was getting assigned all of the shit work that came into the firm. We had gotten a call from a guy who was evicted from his commercial space. The case came to me. I looked at it and discovered that the landlord had fucked up the notice. So we went to JP court on a bench trial for the eviction and I successfully fought it off and even got my client a $5,000 judgment for lost business due to being wrongfully locked out. Here's the thing, though - the client was a gay drug addict - meth, I think. He was very high strung, very emotional, very flamboyant. He was also very critical of me, despite the fact that I got his ass out of a crack and got him 5 grand he probably should not have gotten because he had very little evidence of lost business. Anyway, after the trial I had to go to the guy's place of business, which was an antiques/used furniture store in the Heights. It was also where he was living. I was required by the court to take photos of all of the furniture as part of the court's final order. So I show up over there and my client, who had not slept in days until then, answers the door with no shirt on and looking haggard as fuck. He knew I was coming to take the photos, but he was disoriented and got all pissed off that I was there and basically threw me out, but not before I got the photos. He called my boss, the managing partner, and told him how much I sucked. So, he fired me and I never heard from him again. In a strange twist, he had a "benefactor" who was a gay pilot. He owned his own 747 and basically served as Air Force One for a bunch of African countries who I guess could not afford their own presidential plane. The guy had a name that was perfect for who he was and what he did. He was straight out of central casting. Anyway, the guy had money and basically financed my client's life. He paid his retainer too. I guess the guy had a boy toy in every port that he kept more or less on a leash. It was very weird.
  12. I didn't have any undergrad debt because I worked a lot and UT was cheap, but law school cost me about $100K and I took student loans for all of it. I graduated in '06 at age 32 (I was a "second career" lawyer or, to put it another way - I fucked around for 5-6 years before I got serious about my future.) I got lucky ten years in and I had a good personal injury case that I did for a family friend on a contingent fee (not my normal practice area). Generated a large fee that I was able to use to pay off my student loans.
  13. I apologize if there is already a thread out there for this. Seems like there is a shit ton of lawyers on this site. Maybe we can trade wisdom, ask questions, tell war stories, etc.
  14. If Jose Abreu hadn't sucked, if LMJ, Garcia, Urquidy, Javier and Graveman wouldn't have gotten injured, if Tucker and Yordan hadn't been injured, if my aunt had a dick she'd be my uncle. I'd probably re-sign Bregman for whatever it takes. Dude is part of the core in every way - on the field, in the clubhouse, tough competitor, etc. etc. etc. He's only 30. Get him for as few years as you can, but the AAV has to be what it has to be to keep him. I'd also roll with Singleton at 1B. He had an OPS over 700, had a higher OBP than Bregman. His ROI is higher than some big expensive free agent would be. If you do that, you've got to upgrade in the OF. With all of the pitching coming back healthy we should be a playoff team again.
  15. Can I introduce you to one Jake Myers?
