  1. I don't know, I'm a little more hopeful than all that. Don't get me wrong, I can't believe the current state of affairs. I still can't believe that Donald F. Trump was the President of the United States. It's like a cartoon version of reality. I can't believe a huge segment of our population thinks what they think, but they do. I can see the backslide and where that leads. It's terrifying to think of the U.S. and all of it's military (and nuclear) power in the hands of true fascists with evil intent. I'd have to go underground, hide my beliefs, train my children not to reveal that they are not "with" those in power, but to pretend they are. It's a horrifying version of the future. I also see things in the context of a longer period of time. This whole movement may become a footnote in history. Cooler heads and more reasonable minds will prevail. We will course correct because we have to; because it's the right way forward. Spewing hate and violence toward anyone who is different or who we disagree with is not sustainable long-term. A brutal, totalitarian regime - who wants that, really?
  2. Same. Why do they do that? I think it's a hedge. If they never commit to a statement they maintain plausible deniability and keep us confused.
  3. We're hosting Thanksgiving this year so we've been doing a lot of menu planning and whatnot. It's been a collaborative effort. My wife wants to get two kinds of rolls - one kind that can be bought at a grocery store and then rolls from Hartz chicken. She thinks they are the bomb. They are good, I admit it, but I didn't think they were good enough to warrant a special trip. I didn't say anything though. Fast forward to this morning: Wife: "I decided not to get the Hartz rolls after all." Ojo: (laughing) "Okay, good. It was a dumb idea anyway." (bold move, Cotton, I know) Wife: "It wasn't dumb, it just wasn't..." Ojo: "Smart?" (laughing) Wife: (getting pissed) "It wasn't a dumb idea; I just decided against it, okay?" Ojo: "The rolls themselves were not a dumb idea. Making a special trip for a second type of roll in light of all of the other shit we are doing is what I thought was dumb." Wife: "I don't know why this is even a discussion." Ojo: "I agree." Fin. Now wife will be pissed off at me for two weeks. I was trying to be funny.
  4. That means Carlos isn't coming back and they know it. It also means that if they sign Marte, they're probably cool with Jeremy Pena starting the season at SS. This is our concern, dude.
  5. This. You can't read anything into the length of deliberations here. They probably spent the whole first day just reading the fucking thing again.
  6. Somewhat enchubbened.
  7. Also, I wonder if this makes Correa's decision harder. Probably not. But maybe. But probably not.
  8. Nobody wants a work stoppage. Horrible for everyone. They are going to get a deal done for sure.
  9. Well, I'll. Be. Damned.
  10. How does Pete Davidson pull down the ass he does? I don't get it.
  11. Well, she certainly gets my vote for grudge fuck of the year.
  12. DING!DING!DING!DING!DING! YOU ARE THE WINNER!!! YOU HAVE THE DISTINCTION OF UTTERING THIS PHRASE FOR THE 100,000,000TH TIME!
  13. Seems like the thing to do, and maybe the prosecutor tried it, I don't know, would be to ask a probing question that would possibly open the door to the prior statement. Then ask the judge to approach and reurge admissibility. I think this was an important piece of evidence because it goes to both intent and provocation, which can negate self defense.
  14. I haven't watched much of the trial at all, but the part that was most "explosive" and got the most press attention was when the judge admonished the prosecutor over an evidentiary issue. My understanding of it is that the defense had attempted to limine out some line of testimony pretrial. The prosecutor felt that the defendant's testimony had opened the door to the line of questioning. I don't know if the judge granted the motion in limine or reserved his rulings until the issue came up. I also don't know if the prosecutor asked to approach before going into the line of questioning that he needed permission from the court to go into considering the motion to exclude the evidence and the judge's prior rulings. Regardless, the judge was reaming the prosecutor out, making a big show of it. The judge said something to the effect of, "I TOLD you that line of testimony wasn't coming in." The prosecutor then said, "Yeah, but that was before the witness' testimony that opened the door to the excluded testimony." The judge then said, "Don't get brazen with me!!!" What? "Brazen" means representing the state effectively by pointing out that the judge is flat wrong about an evidentiary issue?
  15. So your friends and family are well-disciplined racists then.
  16. Is the Thor signing in any way indicative of the market value for JV?
  17. How were the other people on the call keeping a straight face? I'm dying.
  18. Really sucks about Meyers. We're going to roll with Chaz/Siri. Chaz could be this year's Straw who we trade at the deadline for positions of need late in the season when Meyers comes back.
  19. Modeling the program after Paul Johnson's Georgia Tech is not in Tech's sights, even though it's not a bad idea. They fancy themselves as something better than they are. They are sand aggies, after all.
  20. I don't think this is really a nightmare scenario. We've got a top 3-4 team going into next season without doing shit. Is it a "superteam?" Is it a WS lock? No and no. But it doesn't have to be. What I described is a "spend smart and keep your powder dry" approach. Big money, big year free agent deals often don't work out and can cripple a team. Making big acquisitions during the season, once the team has proven that it's a playoff contender, and with some team control has been the Astros method. It's better to make a big investment when you have a lot more assurance that the investment is going to pay off. It has worked, you can't argue that.
  21. I predict what will actually happen is that Click will pick up 2-4 free agents that no one has ever heard of (not top of the heap guys, anyway). We'll roll into the season basically with what we have now. No Correa, no JV, no Greinke, no Graveman. We'll have really good 1-6 hitters, assuming Yuli and Brantley don't fall off a cliff and Bregman finds himself. From there it will be all about what kind of seasons some of these guys have. Will one of Chas/Meyers/Siri separate themselves and become the everyday CF and mash at the plate? I'd like it if that happened. Will Pena be our next everyday SS? If not him, then who will it be? As for pitching, what kind of seasons will our starters have? Will LMJ stay healthy for a whole season? There's a lot of variance in what the team's record will be by the All Star Break and trade deadline. If we're in the hunt and we're buyers then I would expect Click to add big, expensive pieces at that time to try to win another series. If he adds guys with some team control for a couple of years, we could be setting up for another 2019 roster situation. But I don't really expect any big acquisitions over the winter.
  22. So very sorry. Here's the ROFL BOX's Notes version: "My wife talks too much. The end."
  23. My wife complains that I don't listen to her anymore, which is true. But it's not my fault. I used to listen to her; every word. What has happened in the intervening 12 1/2 years is that I have slowly been trained by the fact that about 80% of what she says is irrelevant filler. For example, if I ask her, what's the agenda for this weekend. She could tell me that kid 1 and kid 2 have a playdate on Saturday from 10-2, kid 2 has a birthday party from 3-4:30 and on Sunday kid 3 has birthday party from 2-3:30 and that is all. Instead, I hear about her new hairdresser (hair appointment on Friday, not the weekend and during a time that doesn't affect me), something about her car, something about her mom, something about our health insurance and a bunch of other shit I just completely tuned out. It took her at least 10 minutes tell get it all out. When she was finished I asked her, "So, just to confirm, kid 1 and kid 2 have a playdate on Saturday from 10-2, kid 2 has a birthday party from 3-4:30 and on Sunday kid 3 has birthday party from 2-3:30 and that's it, right?" Her: "Yes, that's right." Tone.
  24. 20 to 30 million per year is quite a large vicinity.
  25. I don't know, but he's the best starting FA pitcher available right now who's not old as hell. You are going to have to pay him top-2 in the rotation starting pitcher money. So probably $18-20M AAV. Minimum 5 years, I would think.
