I'm not much of a gear guy in that sense, so others may have some good rec's. For my setup, I got a Yamaha RS-500 receiver. It's a dedicated stereo receiver with built-in pre-amp. (It's not like a home theater receiver with all of the digital processing bells and whistles)... It's been great. It's discontinued now, and I was poking around on their website and it doesn't look like they make a dedicated stereo receiver any more... but I would look for something like that if I were you... you'll get better performance for the price because it doesn't have all of the home theater bells and whistles... just a good solid stereo receiver with a built-in pre-amp. Others here may be able to point you in the right direction. As for speakers, I just got a pair of Infinity tower speakers that I've also really liked. The model I bought is, of course, discontinued now... so I'm not sure what the current equivalent of them would be... it looks like Infinity was bought by Harmon/JBL and so they may not make speakers any more. LOL sorry I'm not much help on that front.
  3. Ha yes… and in addition to playing grown John Quincy Adams in John Adams, I finally figured out where else I’ve seen him… he played the douchy musician guy who was Allison Williams’ boyfriend in Girls, in which he got to do this:
  4. Ha yeah. The thing is that this whole series is going to be like this. Tony Gilroy talked about it on The Watch podcast. Essentially what they did was pair a writer/director for four 3-episode arcs. That’s why they released the first three at once. And I think that’s why we see the same pattern from the first three …. Two episodes building toward a showdown/action piece in the third. So I would expect next week’s episode to be the heist/action set piece then back to build-up/build-up/action over the next 3 and so on.

Yeah when you say 1K total is that for turntable, receiver and speakers? For beginners I always recommend the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon. I think you can get it for around $500 or so. It’s a great turntable that can be upgraded down the line. That obviously doesn’t leave you as much for receiver/speakers but you could upgrade those later.
  6. Some of this is network-dependent based on non-conference games. I'll be curious to see the numbers of non-OU/Texas conference games. OSU-Baylor just pulled 2.4 million viewers last week on FOX while being up against the highest rated game of the week on CBS (Alabama/Arkansas); that's a pretty strong number especially considering the direct competition.
  7. Outstanding work. All of the DeepFake shit is kind of freaking me out though..
  8. LOL Ok. Some of those were obviously included in jest. But if your takeaway from that list is that Ron Howard is the only quality inclusion then I question your taste in music and film/TV.
  9. Also Leon Russell, J.J. Cale, Annie Clark/St. Vincent, The GAP Band, The Turnpike Troubadours, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire to name a few more. And if you're into the pop thing we've also got Hansen, All-American Rejects, and Color Me Badd, lol. And going way back we've got Woody Guthrie, of course. On the film/TV side we've got Bill Hader, Tim Blake Nelson, Tracy Letts, Sterlin Harjo, James Marden, Alfrie Woodard, Kristen Chenowith, Ron Howard, Jeane Tripplehorn, to name a few. So given the size of the state, we have our share of decent music/film/TV contributions.... and one thing you'll notice is that most of it is heavily slanted toward Tulsa/NE Oklahoma, because OUsux.
  10. Yep. It seems like every time this game seems like a foregone conclusion going in, the opposite happens. I HOPE you guys stomp them into oblivion, but I've been shocked by the outcome of this game too many times to expect "the expected" outcome.
  11. Those fellers who went to school in Stillwater are some handsome devils.
  12. Calling my shot: OSU and Texas will be playing each other in the Big 12 title game this year.
  13. It does and it was also filming in the UK during the pandemic so it had access to basically all of the great London stage actors to fill out all of the little parts, which is a huge plus for the show. Basically anyone with a speaking line is a great, accomplished actor.
  14. Ha so true. And when someone finally does whip out a lightsaber, it has MUCH more impact. Think about the first two seasons of Mandalorian. There have been 16 episodes of that show... so that's say roughly 10-11 hours of content (give or take... just estimating about 40 minutes/episode) there have really been 2-3 lightsaber scenes.... Ashoka with the cold open and a few scenes at the end of "The Jedi" and the Luke scene in "The Rescue." And people lost their minds with those scenes because they weren't common... they were rare and unexpected and they kicked ass.
  15. This is an interesting question. I'm fine with the pacing... I put this earlier in the thread, but the pacing of Andor (so far) is more akin to the middle third of ESB, which just about everyone agrees is the best SW film, so I'm fine with the pace. The thing that was really missing from the first three episodes (in a visual sense) was the Empire, since we were mostly dealing with the "corporate security" team... that made it a little less "Star Warsy" to me, but that went away in Episode 4 with introducing the Empire/ISB characters on Coruscant. Also the other thing to think about, in terms of "Star Wars feel" is that whole vibe of Star Wars was always borrowed from other genres... primarily Westerns, Samuri, mythology, etc.... that was always the cool thing about it... taking those genres and setting them in the Star Wars universe. Where people have got intro trouble over the years (*cough* J.J. Abrams *cough*) is just trying to replicate the "Star Wars" vibe without really tapping into the underlying influences. That's something that Filoni and Faverau got and applied to Mandalorian/Boba Fett when those shows were at their best. So I love what Gilroy is doing with Andor.. he's taking exactly what Lucas and Filoni/Faveru get... take an exciting film genre you love and apply it to Star Wars... in this case it's primarily paranoid 70s espionage/Cold War films.... and it's the perfect template for this story... how a Rebellion forms from within (Mon Mothma) and without (Cassian, etc.) an established government and how that government is simultaneously trying to sniff it out via it's intelligence agency... (ISB as a stand in for the CIA, KGB, etc.).

How old is the kid and what kind of setup are you thinking? You want just something basic/inexpensive that can help them get into the hobby, or something that may cost a bit more that they can eventually upgrade, etc?
  17. Yeah there was improvement across the board in all areas. Baylor’s DL is super legit. They are going to make it tough on everyone because they can control the LOS with their DL and drop everyone into coverage. We still moved the ball pretty well against them, and they are likely the best defense we’ll face all year unless we make the playoffs. Our defense continues to improve. The front is really good and the backers continue to get better. This will be a legit defense by the end of the year, IMO. Not as good as last year, but with the offense being better it should be enough.
  18. I’m old enough to remember when those fucking dipshits ran him out of town the first time. And then he got gud at Clemson. I will say… if your entire defensive coaching effectiveness hinges on whether or not you have like 6-7 five-star defensive linemen on your team… I may begin to question coaching acumen.
