  1. IIRC from the book, they actually do the second mission, but it's uneventful/no casualties. I've often wondered if that was made up for the show, or maybe if Winters actually told them that, despite what he said in the book, that they didn't actually do the second mission. My gut tells me that it was just made up for the show because Winters seems like the type who would not disobey an order like that.
  2. Co-sign. I think The Last Patrol is absolutely one of the best episodes for the reasons you pointed out. The way they play the contrast between Colin Hanks, young and fresh out of West Point, and Weber, fresh from the hospital after being injured in Market-Garden, with the rest of the battle-weary company that had just been through Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge was striking and brilliant. And also showing how the decision-making process works during war when things are winding down and both sides see the end in sight was very telling.
  3. Yeah I remember overall when I first started I "clicked" with Rebels much faster than Clone Wars; possibly because early Clone Wars had lots "filler" episodes that felt VERY kid-centric... like having whole episodes about a few droids, etc. Rebels had Ezra and *some* kid stuff but felt very much like the OT to me. But I will say when Clone Wars gets dark, it gets DARK. There are some episodes/arcs that go pretty far on death and violence. I'm thinking of the Satine/Mandalore arc, some of the Savage/Maul stuff and that arc where that dickhead Jedi general was treating clones like disposable droids.
  4. Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?
  5. Please hold for Elaine Benes.
  6. I think most people here would say YES. Clone Wars is very long, but there's a guide that has been posted here multiple times that is very helpful for knowing what you can skip and what you should watch to get the key story elements that tie to other SW stories/series. And the 4-episode finale that was released last year (?) of The Clone Wars is basically a 2-hour movie that is as good as ANY Star Wars stuff out there. It takes place concurrently with the events of ROTS. If you grew up on the OT, you will love Rebels. It's not as long as Clone Wars with much less filler... it has the OT "feel" and probably has 4-5 of the all-time best Star Wars moments.
  7. Yeah harder living back in the day, lol. Mark Hamill was *older* than Guinness was in ANH while shooting TLJ. He was 64-65 when that movie was in production. And they actually made him look *older* in that movie than he looks IRL.
  8. Yeah. I always just kind of say we have “national seeds” and “hosts.”
  9. Yeah maybe they just use it in general to describe the hosts? But the “top 8 national seeds” host Supers if they win?
  10. Honestly shocked we ended up with a national seed, but I’ll take it. Our draw is pretty tough - Arky, Grand Canyon… even Missouri State can sneak up on you. Saw they put TCU in College Station. Hopefully we get the annual “TCU shatters Aggy dreams” situation again.
  11. All of this. And I would argue the only one of the prequels that delves into “unwatchable” territory is Attack of the Clones. Both TPM and ROTS have some moments and characters that don’t work, but both are solid films, IMO. As it were, I recently saw an interview with Ewan where is said that literally 100% of the dialog in AOTC had to be done with ADR because they figured out after the fact that the “digital bank” they constructed to view what was shot with the 1st generation digital cameras created some kind of interference that messed up the on-set audio. That explains a lot of the bad acting.
  12. Fuck yeah. I was hoping that the driving narrative of the Ahsoka series was going to be about the search for Ezra/Thrawn. Seems like that’s pretty likely with Sabine and Hera. BarttttttttScotttttt.giiiiiifff
  13. Or just re-watch the entire OT. Leia is kind of an asshole to everyone all the time… that’s kind of her thing, lol. The characterization of young Leia is dead-on perfect. She’s kind and protective of others, but is a boss bitch who doesn’t suffer fools.
  14. On the point about the Jedi - virtually all of them were wiped out at once during Order 66. And any remaining prominent Jedi outside of Obi-Wan and Yoda were hunted and killed in the 10 years that followed. Now they are essentially just hunting down stragglers… I believe Reva even mentioned something about what they are hunting are “scraps.” A key thing to remember about them being “forgotten” is that the vast, vast majority of the galaxy never interacted with Jedi, even when they were in their prime. (This was covered a bit in some of the side stories on The Clone Wars)…. So considering that, you could see how nobody would have much of a reference point for Jedi 20 years after they were essentially all wiped out when most people never saw/interacted with them in the first place.
  15. My assumption after the second watch was this. They could have shown anything related to Order 66, but they chose to show a group of younglings running away. I’m fairly certain that had a specific purpose. I figured Reva was likely one of them, and it would explain her hatred for the Jedi and Kenobi, in particular, since he’s the one who sends out the message for all Jedi to go into hiding. She likely feels abandoned by the Jedi, which is why she joined up with the Inquistors.
  16. That’s…… the whole point. We are seeing Kenobi at his absolute low point at the start of this series. He has purposely cut himself off from the Force, hasn’t continued to train and no longer considers himself a Jedi. Hence when he told other Jedi on Tatooine, “let it go; go back to town and live a normal life.”
  17. Yeah good point. Plus, if you’re going to cast Rupert Friend, it’s kind of a waste to only have him for like 1.5 episodes.
  18. I thought it was great. Leia did seem a little small for a 10-year-old, but then Carrie Fisher was also pretty tiny, so it makes sense. I thought they got her temperament just right. That’s exactly how I imagine 10-year-old Leia would act. Fake-Jedi Dinesh was perfect, lol. And I guess we got the answer for the Fanboys whining about how the Grand Inquisitor didn’t look enough like the Grand Inquisitor in Rebels, lol.
  19. POLICE THAT MOOOOSTACHE!!!
  20. You stole the quote I was going to post, lol. Madmardigan, FTW
  21. LOL same. (A) I have a one-year-old so my sleep is precious. (B) I have early meetings tomorrow anyway. Gonna wait until Friday evening after the boy is down and then settle in on the couch with some bourbon and enjoy the hell out of this.
  22. Uh huh. Well again - feel free to avoid this show. I'm sure it's going to be terrible because a movie from 5 years ago gave you the sads.
  23. It's hard to really know before seeing the show. My guess is that you won't really need to see any of the animated shows to know what's going on. This is really being positioned as "Obi-Wan in hiding in between ROTS and ANH" so my guess is it's generally targeted at people who have seen the OT and prequels. But there likely will be some Easter egg stuff for people who watched the Clone Wars series, via flashbacks, name drops, or perhaps one or more characters appearing in live action. (Just a guess)
  24. So how many of you nerds are going to stay up and watch this at midnight?
  25. Yeah the Disney Star Wars shows have been real shitty so far. You probably shouldn't watch because you're still mad about the Asian girl in a Star Wars movie from 5 years ago. Solid game plan.
