  1. I'd say Bookfag adjacent. We'll probably still need to burn you just to be safe.
  2. Yeah the dude is fucking scumbag drug smuggler. But the story is fucking wild and entertaining. I'm loving it, lol. His story is somewhat similar to Barry Seal, who was another American pilot who smuggled for the Medellin Cartel. (There was a Tom Cruise movie several years ago very loosely based on Seal's life) I'll put in spoilers about Seal and similarities just in case:
  3. Yes. Les Miles signed tons of questionable guys, all of which Gundy kicked off the team when he took over in 2005, which is why we had a massively depleted roster that season and it remains Gundy's only losing season in 16 seasons.
  4. And don't forget a very quick chopper ride to the Catalina Wine Mixer.
  5. Haven't gone through this whole thread, but outside of RamJet, Thujone and maybe Derka, I've got nothing to add. But I do often think and have a good chuckle about Jade's "chili" so there's that.
  6. Yeah and the more I watch Adrian Brody as Riley, the more I think he actually kind of does look like Riley... I think once we get to the shaved, slicked back hair point he'll really look like him.
  7. We play them in Morgantown this weekend. Big series for both teams.
  8. Yep. And the Jordan brand could have been the Magic brand. You can imagine "Nike Magic I, Nike Magic IV, etc." That's really was how Nike looked to distinguish themselves and it was fucking brilliant. They essentially took their plan for Magic and applied to to Jordan four years later. It helped that they had been very successful in running shoes up to that point so had more money they could throw at Jordan, but for people who weren't around, it really was an out-of-nowhere deal... Nike was pretty much 100% associated with running shoes up until Jordan. It would be like today if New Balance all of a sudden signed the #1 draft pick to an endorsement deal and started making basketball shoes all of a sudden. But yeah I think Magic is doing just fine.
  9. BTW, don't know if it's been discussed here yet, but the guy playing Kareem is a super interesting dude. His name is Solomon Hughes....he's 6'11" and played college basketball for Cal-Berkley. He earned both his undergrad and Masters from Cal. He also has a PhD from the University of Georgia in Higher Education. His main job before landing this acting gig (his first) was as a guest lecturer on higher education at Stanford. He was also a Harlem Globtrotter for a while. I mean... could they have found a more perfect person to play Kareem?
  10. Wow. Great episode. This show gets better and better. One side note is that while I knew that Paula Abdul was a Laker Girl, I had no idea she was in the very first group. (Looking on the Wikipedias, I don't think she was technically the "first" Laker Girl, as it stated in the show... it does say she was in the first group that was selected from a pool of like 700 girls, and within a year she was the head choreographer.)
  11. Just from the trailer, Goose Jr., seems like he sucks. I quote the from Miramar Naval Air Station's Board of Inquiry regarding the incident on 29 July 1986: "The spin was induced by the disruption of air flow into the starboard engine. This disruption stalled the engine, which produced enough yaw rate to induce a spin which was unrecoverable. There was no way Lieutenant Mitchell could see or avoid the jetwash. This Board of Inquiry finds that he was not at fault in the accident of 29 July. His record will be cleared. He's restored to flight status without further delay." FUCK YOU, GOOSE JR. IT WASN'T MAVERICK'S FAULT.
  12. Agree that Zero Dark Thirty is awesome. Django was fantastic, but I find it one of the least re-watchable Tarantino films (Hateful Eight being the least re-watchable for me). Disagree strongly on Argo. It was a great piece of popular filmmaking, it just shouldn't have won Best Picture. Zero Dark Thirty should have.
  13. To me his most memorable thing is Zero Dark Thirty. LOL every time I see him in anything all I can see/hear is "WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW BIN LADEN!!!!????"
  14. You ever meet someone who lived in a desert climate for like 20 years? I've seen 40 year-olds whose face looks like an old catcher's mitt. (But yeah obviously Ewan is gonna look way better than Alec Guiness at the same age... just go with it...)
  15. One moment I loved but forgot to bring up... when Buss jumps into the pool in Palm Springs and yells "FUCK" underwater... Great double-homage of The Graduate and Boogie Nights when it shows Reed under water after busts his back doing the "full flip", lol.
  16. Good summary. The genesis was back in the 80s... it was Gary Ward's idea, IIRC, to generate more excitement in for college baseball in the state. Back then, the Big 8 played 5 conference games against everyone. So what they would do is play 2 in Norman/Stillwater, depending on whose year it was to be the home team, and then generally play 2 in OKC and 1 in Tulsa. The Tulsa/OKC part switched around off and on, from all 3 in one site to the 2/1 split being different. When the Big 12 started and it switched to 3 game series against everyone, they kept the Tulsa/OKC sites in favor of the school sites and would play 2/1 in OKC/Tulsa on a rotational basis... usually one site would get Friday/Saturday and then the other would get Sunday. After a while, they started playing 1 or 2 non-conference games at school sites just because Bedlam was/is a big draw in both locations. Then 'Stache pretty much covers the rest from the past few years when they went back to campus sites for the actual conference games.
  17. Necro reply here, but honestly the issue wasn't that they "lost" their dogfighting skills. The issue was that they were relying on missiles as a tactic in Vietnam but the 1st gen radar-guided and heat-seeking missiles were notoriously unreliable. They got to the point where they would shoot two at every target because of how bad they were.
  18. Yes but it's actually not great from a "fan comfort" standpoint, unless you are in the Club Seats or the west end zone. The older lower-level seating is VERY cramped and uncomfortable. And unless you are sitting very close to the aisles, it can be very difficult to actually access your seats. That's what this renovation is primarily addressing.
  19. Yep. Although I have mixed feelings about reducing capacity. Like it or not, attendance/capacity is one of the factors looked at for programs that are going to sit at the CFB "big boy" table. We can easily support 60k, so I wish our capacity was closer to that, but I do get that the stadium, as it is, is not a very comfortable place to sit when it's packed.
  20. LOL I always get nervous when this thread is bumped. Glad to see it was good news.
  21. Yes. Grumpy/surly Kareem is awesome, especially contrasting with the infectious overbearing positivity of Magic. Another great episode last night. And I loved the basketball theory stuff with Jack McKinney. The on-court stuff also looked good to me. Was it as good as actual NBA play? No; but it was good enough for the show that it wasn't a distraction.
  22. I think OU and West Virginia are capable. So I'm not sure the drop-off is massive there, even though the top 4 are clearly better. But yeah Baylor, K-State and Kansas range from "meh" to bad.
  23. 11 straight wins for my Pokes. Now sitting at 18-6. We have a mid-week non-conference game against OUsux in Tulsa this week. Should be fun to smack them around again.
