  1. Pretty interesting article, but it would have been nice to get into the exact economics of grass vs. turf. Of course the grass guy claimed that it "wasn't as expensive" because of the up-front cost of turf, but I can't imagine that's true. He didn't mention how much they spend annually on water, fertilizer, weed control and then of course the expense of have a full-time grounds crew on staff. The market tends to speak for itself in this case and so I can't imagine that grass is actually cheaper or on-par with turf, otherwise the vast majority of schools would have grass instead of it being the other way around.
  2. Yep we will. We can also see this week when OSU plays at West Virginia at 2:30 on ESPN. It's against some heavy competition but I'm guessing it will pull a good number.
  3. Well I mean there has been quite a bit of data posted in this very thread over the past several years that shows there's a pretty big difference, adjusted for time slots and networks. I wouldn't read too much into a particular game selected in one random week.
  4. I mean... yeah those teams are in the league, but I'm not sure they are "representative" of what the Big 12 will be putting forward. In terms of football brands/interest, both of them are in the bottom third of the league. KU certainly has the chance to improve going forward if they keep it going, but for now they are still at the bottom. You see that with the OSU/K-State number. Those two, plus TCU, Baylor, Tech, 4 Corners (especially w/ Coach Prime), WVU and Iowa State are going to consistently draw way more eyeballs than KU/UCF.
  5. There's definitely something to this. I've brought this up when OSU fans bring up how Iowa State or Kansas State has been able to knock off OU more consistently... yeah, because when that's happened it's typically been in early-to-mid October when everyone is still pretty healthy. Teams like OSU/Iowa State/K-State may be able to compete with elite teams with its starters but there's a BIG drop-off when starters start getting injured (see OSU last year). So by playing OU at the end of the year pretty much every year, we are dealing not only with them "rounding into form" but also the normal attrition of a football season. We are almost always down a few key starters by the time Bedlam rolls around... or like last year basically 3/4 of the starters.
  6. If you're talking about FOX OTA then I think the answer is yes: the 2:30 slot and the prime time slot. Obviously they can farm out other games to various slots on FS1. I'm not sure how the game selection goes, in terms of whether ESPN/ABC of FOX gets first "dibs" on games, but it seem like, in a given week, if ESPN gets first pick then the Big 12 game will go in the noon slot on either ABC or ESPN and if FOX gets first pick it's going in the 230 or 700 slot, depending on if baseball is going on. But I don't know for sure - just guessing.
  7. Gundy does some madding things sometimes (the stupid fucking QB rotation this year) but he certainly has proven time and again that he absolutely squeezes every bit of performance out of the talent he has on the team. Yeah we'll see on Bedlam - I put this in another thread, but I'm still waiting to see OU put together a really good performance in a true road game before I write that game off. So far they have looked pretty mediocre in their only two true road games (@ Cincy and @ SMU). Of course, as it typically happens, I'm sure they'll put it all together in Stillwater, lol.
  8. That's simply a function fewer of the legacy teams being ranked this year. It ebbs and flows. Last year multiple were ranked and they were on the primary networks pulling good numbers. It's also a function of how the schedule has broken out... there honestly hasn't been a ton of compelling match-ups between legacy schools yet... when there has been (OSU/K-State, e.g.) they have pulled good numbers. I expect OSU-WVU will pull a good number on ESPN this weekend too.
  9. That's an FS1 issue, not a Big 12 issue. OSU-Kansas State drew like 2.3mm on ESPN on a Friday night two weeks ago. The legacy Big 12 schools draw fine when they are on ESPN/ABC or regular FOX.
  10. Agreed, but I do think Kansas is significantly better than both Cincy and SMU and OU didn't have an easy time with either of them on the road, that's all I'm saying.
  11. Ok yeah that's fine. The Iowa State game was at home, RRS is neutral, and they had significant turnover margins in both games. They have played two teams with a pulse on the road and scored 20 (Cincy) and 28 (SMU). It's not like they are some unstoppable force. KU might be worse on defense than those two, but they are significantly better on offense. OU may very well blow KU out, but I'm just saying that playing them in Lawrence coming off a bye will be no easy task.
  12. Perhaps. But OU also only managed to score 20 against a Cincinnati team that Iowa State completely took apart, so we'll see. Every week is different.
  13. Yeah I mean they have been going like 1-11 or 2-10 just about every year since Mangino left up until last year. And kudos to Texas for handling them, but it certainly helped that Bean didn't know he was going to start until right before the game. They aren't some great team by any stretch, but they are more than capable on offense with quite a few weapons. It will be very interesting to see how they do with two weeks to prepare for OU at home.... especially if Daniels is back by then.
  14. Yeah I mean Norman is closer to DFW than most of Texas (geography wise), and they have long recruited the entire state. Plus, for being a small-ish state, Oklahoma punches above its weight on per-capita blue chip football recruits.... not on the level of like a Louisiana, but Oklahoma does produce a good amount of P5 players every year, considering our size. And Oklahoma is going to get almost every blue chip the state produces in any given year unless the family has ties to OSU or something and we can manage to nab them.
  15. Having just gone through this a few years ago, Oklahoma is a "No Fault" divorce state, meaning martial assets are supposed to be* divided 50/50 no matter the reason for the divorce. * This, of course, is pending lawyer shit in drafting up the decree, but the idea is that it's 50/50 no matter what I'm not certain the alimony situation, as my ex- and I both have good jobs and she didn't ask for any so it was a non-issue for us.
  16. LOL I've unsuccessfully tried to explain it to the OSU fan base many times.
  17. I'm almost certain that Cincy and UCF weren't added as "recruiting" plays, they were added as "market" plays. TV is driving the bus on this whole thing, after all. As wild as this seems given our horrid start, OSU will be sitting in a very nice position if we win in Morgantown this weekend. After that, Bedlam at home is our only game against the top half of the conference - all the rest are against the new guys.
  18. As the season moves along that three-QB rotation AND RB rotation in the non-conference is going to piss me off more and more. I don’t think there’s any question that we would be 5-0 at this point if he just names Bowman the starter from day 1 and runs Gordon out there 50-60% of the time at a bare minimum. If he wanted to do the rotation thing for show he should have ended it after the first game. Get fucking serious and run Bowman out there after that to let him build up reps/rapport with the rest of the offense. Once he finally got to do that look what fucking happened. I get wanting to not burn Gordon out but he had four fucking carries against South Alabama. He’s clearly and obviously the most talented player on offense, FFS.
  19. That game felt so much like an OSU-Texas Tech game from around 2007-09 or so. Both teams getting like 9 yards per play all day…. The only way we would get stops is getting an INT or a fumble or something. Fun game but stressful AF. Kansas is NOT fun to play against… that offense is something. The get two weeks to prepare for OU in Lawrence now. Would love to see them carve up Venables. You know they’re gonna throw the kitchen sink at them.
  20. Yeah I listed them out up thread a bit. In 2020 it was our 3rd to last game; but then it was the last game again in 2021 (when we beat them in the last Caleb Williams/Lincoln Riley game) and then last year it was back to the 2nd to last game again.
  21. I learned long ago that our particular orange is just (for whatever reason) one of those colors that can look almost totally different in different lighting conditions, whether or not you are watching live or on TV, hell it even looks different from network to network. Plus two different people can look at it and see something different. I don’t know why.
  22. Thanks for the kind words, guys. I really do appreciate it. I found ShaggyBevo more than 10 years ago… I think it was during the 2010 season… around the time of the legendary “Co-op statues” thread. It quickly became my favorite ever sports/pop culture/food/everything message board and slowly became the only one I ever post on. I love all of you of assholes.
