  1. There have been earlier ones, I just didn't go back that far. We actually played them in October once or twice back in the Les Miles days. There were some others that were off-and-on early like that even going back to the Big 8 days. I'd say like 90% of the time it's been the last game of the year, but then it's bounced around in various times in November (mostly) for the other 10% of the time with a few other outliers in late October.
  2. So I'm almost a week late on this, but I have to say... I'm very pleased with how we have "standardized" our uniform look this year. So much better than a bunch of wacky combinations that would be sometimes good and sometimes meh.
  3. They've moved that game around off-and-on over the years. It's typically been the last game of the season for us, but not always. We actually also played on Nov. 4 back in 2017... it was also on Nov. 10 in 2018, and was our second-to-last game last year and was like our 3rd-to-last game in 2020. So yeah - mostly the last game of the season, but not always.
  4. Yeah I mean Big 12 After Dark is going to be the new Pac 12 After Dark. We all just better get used to a handful of late kickoffs every year.
  5. On the first point, it seems pretty clear to me - Ashoka was traumatized by finding out that Anakin had become Vader ... so much so that she didn't trust herself to either train Sabine or get involved in the Galactic Civil War for fear of losing either her apprentice (or herself) to the Dark Side. That's pretty much was her character arc was about in first half of this series prior to her spiritual awakening in her World Between Words meeting with Force ghost/Force memory Anakin when she became "Ashoka the White." The Palpatine returning stuff may or may not be related to Nightsister magic but the cargo is almost certainly corpses of dead Stormtroopers that will be re-animated by the Nightsisters on Dathomir.
  6. Awesome. I haven't seen QoTSA since the "Like Clockwork" tour. They kick so much ass. I need to see them again soon. They are playing OKC on this tour but not Tulsa. Boo.
  7. This is a preference thing. Mando leans heavily into the "Western" influence of Star Wars (John Ford movies, etc.), while Ashoka leans heavily into the "fantasy" references/elements (Lord of the Rings, Dune, etc.) of Star Wars. It's fine if you prefer the former, but it doesn't mean the latter is "bad" for those of us who enjoy that aspect of the show. For a "bad" example of the latter, see the Obi-wan show. For that matter, for a "bad" version of the former, see Book of Boba Fett. In fact, I think it's pretty awesome that we can get three distinct types of Star Wars, and they all kick fucking ass when done well: Western / samurai adventure stuff (Faverau) Fantasy / Space Wizard stuff (Filoni) Gritty / real / political stuff (Gilroy)
  8. Itā€™s a loooooooong Star Wars tradition that Force powers are used as the plot dictates. Best just to understand that and go with it.
  9. Seriously? I thought he'd been sober since he did rehab after the AGIB sessions...?
  10. YES! I was standing just in front of and to the right of "gold jacket" guy.
  11. Oh is the ā€œSouth Side Ballroomā€ the old Palladium? I saw Wilco there in like 2009 or something.
  12. Also Huyang knows a thing or two about building lightsabers, so thereā€™s that.
  13. Yes the repulsorlifts are mounted internally - I imagine around or near (or even part of?) the hyperdrive since it's part of the same technology. And I've never thought about it but I guess the analogy I would make is like a blimp. The chamber filled with helium lifts the blimp off the ground, but forward propulsion requires the use of propellers. So the repulsorlifts are like the helium chamber and the ion engines are like the propellers. As for the "toy on a wire" thing I imagine the idea is that they can some what control the amount of "buoyancy" provided and/or the power of the ion engines and maneuvering thrusters easily overcomes the anti-gravity effects. And I'm sure the idea is that it's not unlike fly-by-wire systems in modern aircraft where powerful computers can monitor and adjust how all of the various systems work together to achieve the desired result. That's the best I've got. I'm sure some nerds in the corners of the Star Wars internet have a better explanation.
  14. Looks like an awesome show. And yeah Nels on Impossible Germany is hard to beat. At the Tulsa show the other night, it wasn't on the set list originally and they added it, which was awesome. I've never really got why bands do that but was so glad they did. It's like they just chatted for a sec and then Tweedy goes, "we weren't originally going to play this tonight but now we are..." In terms of meeting the guys, my CSB is about 5 years ago Wilco played at the Brady Theater in Tulsa - I think it's literally the only time they played here that wasn't at Cain's.... anyway there's this craft cocktail bar right down the street from it called Valkyrie. Me and a buddy of mine were having a drink there after the show and Pat Sansone just walks in and sits down at the bar. And clearly nobody else in that bar had any idea who he was so I walked up and just started chatting him up for a few minutes. The dude could have have been any nicer or cooler.
  15. Ha same.. my explanation was based on reading these back in the day.
  16. In the Star Wars universe, pretty much all crafts are equipped with technology called ā€œrepulsolift.ā€ Itā€™s essentially anti-gravity technology that is a derivative of hyperspace technology. There are very small versions (think land speeders or speeder bikes that just hover right about the ground as they go) or very large ones in, say, an Imperial Star Destroyer. They are used to enable crafts to ā€œhoverā€ in atmosphere and also to counteract high g-force acceleration forces in starfigheters in combat situations. The ā€œinverseā€ technology of the repulsolift is the technology that can create a localized gravity well to basically have gravity on large ships while in space. Very large versions of this technology is also used in Interdictor-class Star Destroyers that can literally pull ships out of hyperspace and/or not allow ships within a localized area to jump to hyperspace. Yes Iā€™m a huge fucking nerd.
  17. Fuck yeah. Chooper is absolutely a sociopath who only thinks of murder all day long. I love him so much.
  18. Thatā€™s an interesting perspective on Kidsmoke. That wouldnā€™t be my impression at allā€¦ like you said itā€™s like a 10ā€“minute long krautrock freak outā€¦. I figured itā€™s the kind of song that ONLY hard-core fans love. Even on AGIB (which is one of their least ā€œaccessibleā€ albums for non-fans, IMO) thereā€™s way more ā€œmainstreamā€ sounding songs to my ears, like Hummingbird or The Late Greats or Theologians. And yeah Iā€™m with you in terms of top bandsā€¦ theyā€™re in my top 3 as well. I couldnā€™t put a number on how many times Iā€™ve seen themā€¦ definitely 10+ times, plus Iā€™ve seen Tweedy solo another 3-4 times. But yeah Old 97ā€™s/Rhett are definitely my ā€œmost seen liveā€ act as well. God knows how many times Iā€™ve seen them in the past 30 yearsā€¦ a lot. Basically every time theyā€™ve been in Tulsa, plus shows in Dallas, Austin, KC, Red Rocks, and so on. Enjoy the show! And yeah definitely be sure and give ā€œCousinā€ and ā€œEvictedā€ a listen because Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll play those. Both good tracks.
  19. LOL that was awesome. You just know that little psychopath was all, ā€œHOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO DIE TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER???ā€
  20. Yeah really enjoyed the set the other night. Wait. Who shits on Spiders? I fucking love that songā€¦and yeah was super awesome to finally hear it live. Of the new songs, definitely digging ā€œCousinā€ the most. It has kind of a vibe that would fit in on AGIB. ā€œEvictedā€ is a nice little tune as well. ā€œPittsburghā€ hasnā€™t been released yet so Iā€™ve only heard it the one time liveā€¦ I do recall it was a pretty chill, low-tempo number. Looking forward to listening again tomorrow when the album is out.
  21. Yeah I think it's pretty cool... Ezra always had his big connection with the natural world, so it would make sense that after a decade in isolation (and with no lightsaber or other weapons) he became even more connected to the point that he became an expert at just using his abilities and the physical environment vs. using weapons. I do think we'll see him use the blade at some point but I thought him fighting without weapons was totally fucking cool.
  22. That was awesome. As was her "Oh fuck. I may have just fucked around and found out" expression when he did it.
  23. Fuck yeah what a great show last night. That was my favorite Wilco show I've seen in a while. They played 21 songs basically spanning their whole career, including 3 from the new album that sounded great "Pittsburg", "Cousin" and "Evicted." I also FINALLY - FINALLY got to hear "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" live and damn did it deliver. They played it as the closer of the encore. It's funny because I've easily seen Wilco like 10+ times and have never heard it. It got to be almost funny that they would never play it. I'd look at set lists and they would play it like 5 shows in a row leading up to whatever show I saw and then not play it. It's literally their only concert staple I'd never heard. Damn it was awesome. Also got to hear "Misunderstood" and "Side with the Seeds" for the first time in a long while. Here's the full set list for those interested: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/wilco/2023/cains-ballroom-tulsa-ok-1ba395dc.html
  24. So you're saying we're going to get a 3-way scissoring scene with her, Hera and Sabine? IN
  25. Seeing Wilco at a sold-out Cain's tonight for the umpteenth time. Can't freaking wait. Haven't seen the guys since right before the pandemic. I'll report back with shitty iPhone pix.
