  1. I'm ok with the trade. Wanted all the Lakers young guns, but if this is the best trade we got, it does improve us imo. LMA led us to the playoffs last year without a true #2 scoring option, and that frustrated me to no end (seeing LMA get doubled with nobody else able to hit water out of a boat for large stretches). This solves that. We lose some defense, but DJ might just develop into a legitimate defender that can take whichever of the PG or SG is more potent offensively. I've been firmly on the anti-Danny train for a couple of seasons now, but man I'm more sad than I expected to see that true Spur go. He's not going to be forgotten soon in SA.
  2. Just looked him up. He's 22 years old and coming into his 3rd year in the league. Was a Top 10 pick (9) out of Utah, was the Pac-12 player of the year his sophomore year. Played a bit (amidst frequent trips to D League) his rookie year, but last year seemed to be the first big off the bench, over 18 minutes a game, 6.9pts/4.8rbs/1.2 blks. Seems to be a dunk & block center (shot over 60% FG) according to his Youtube highlights. I'm surprised he's being considered an afterthought considering the strides his stats made after his rookie year and seems like he still has a lot to learn. We also really needed a big.
  3. Any thoughts on Ukranian Village vs. Pilsen? Looking up some Air BnB's for early October trip with family. Houses look good (and affordable), but everybody says they're walking distance from "trendy" bars and restaurants etc. Any other considerations? (We're brown as fuck so I think we'll blend into Pilsen nicely) Also, we're beginning to get worried that 5 days might be a bit much (I'm happy just hanging around eating and drinking after day 3, but alas not everyone is), any recommendations for a day trip outside of the area? Milwaukee doable and/or worth it?
  4. I don't think I've assumed another driver on the road knows how to merge or follow a Yield sign for about 3 years (and it probably took me too long at that). I will say that there are a lot of silly yield signs at freeway entrances around Austin still. Maybe a 'yield' was suitable in 1992, but we're way past the days where you could come to a stop at a freeway entrance ramp and wait until it's "safe" to enter. Any time between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. you will be waiting there forever and have a line of cars 10 deep honking at you before you're able to find enough space to merge carefully. No thanks, cross those fingers and step on the gas, see you on the other side.
  5. That division could be so good if people would just fight each other. I'll take Porter over Garcia too. I don't believe that Garcia has the heart nor drive to survive a fight with Porter. Survive as in win, don't see him getting knocked out either.
  6. I think he meant trade Capela for the cap space, not talent for talent. Because the Rockets front office should also be fired for offering Capela for Butler. Not that they have any more realistic or enticing options to offer. Wish something would happen already. Maybe this is why I'm not an NBA GM, but all this waiting has brought my price down, I'd be happy with Saric/Covington/1st round pick. Or even Ingram/"B" prospect/pick. I've softened on our impending "doom," as a playoff team returning essentially the same team, with a PG who is due to make a 3rd year jump, while retaining Rudy Gay (which I did not expect at all) in a 2nd year of the Spurs' system, I don't see how we don't improve with an extra talented piece or two. Kawhi played 9 games last year and we haven't lost a huge part of our playoff team (unless you count Tony as that, which I don't).
  7. Agree with the sentiment, but disagree on the hip hop details. Chicks love J. Cole and Childish in my experience. Saw Childish at ACL before Outkast's performance and the crowd was littered with blonde college chicks. White people love Donald Glover. And women from Houston like UGK and DJ Screw now that they're gone and reached legendary status, not sure that they did when they were here though.
  8. Absolutely agree with this. He had a blistering start to the season, but didn't nearly reach blistering after he came back from injury after the all-star. He's pretty decent in the system on a capable bench, but I haven't seen much strides since his first year or two. His shot looked as terrible as ever at times this year (was it the playoffs when he consistently found himself open in the corner yet bricked 3 after 3?). I like him, he fits the system, but am ambivalent on resigning. I have my doubts that another team's chemistry and construction will fit his skill-set, but I do know that he's slow and I still operate on the assumption that Memphis plays slow as fuck, so it might work... if we have the space, match. If we don't, thanks for the memories of decent bench play and at times heady moves, but he was no Boris "heady", he was above average.
  9. Just be patient. Magic will blow his load, he has much more pressure than we do to make this happen now. Ingram, Kuzma and a couple 1st rounders and I'm green-lighting. My dream scenario is we get Ingram, Kuzma, Randle and a 1st and then turn around and sign LeBron and win the 2019, 2020 and 2021 championships while Kawhi gets to show up in a shitload of awkward Big Baller Brand videos.
  10. I think he's quickly reached replacement-level after last year (especially, but maybe even from 2 years ago). But with a healthy team, I still think he's a solid starter and obviously a plus defender and still dangerous as an outlet for Kawhi/LMA double-teams, etc. It's funny just how wanting to be on a team can win you so much favor. He didn't have to take 10-mil, but he did, because he genuinely likes being a Spur, and as a Spurs fanatic, I'll never forget that, even though I've been public about wishing for a trade last year (Avery Bradley).
  11. The first thing I thought reading that tweet was that they were probably misinterpreting the situation. I follow the news on this type of stuff semi-closely and I've never heard people complain about policies that "affect black and brown people a lot".... it is usually because they "affect black and brown people disproportionately." One of those claims is bullshit and silly and unproven, the other claim is worth looking at and worth action over.
  12. How quickly my mind changed from "Morocco deserves a goal today" to "Morocco deserves all ZERO of the points they will get out of this." Around the 60th minute they were playing inspired and aggressive and creating chances, then from about 70 on it went to sloppy, disjointed, nervous, and in two cases (off that dude's left foot) flat-out Choking. They couldn't hold the ball for shit in the midfield, don't know how to use or create space on the pitch, and weren't nearly as good as I thought they were when I started watching at minute 55.
  13. I can't see SAS wanting him to play for a year without this situation completely resolved. Imagine TP and Manu (and LaMarcus for that matter, or any teammate other than his buddy Danny) having to dress next to that guy in the locker room, who hasn't signed the SuperMax, who bullshitted us for an entire basketball season, and who obviously is just treading water until he can make his move to LA. It's still Super Max contract or nothing at all, no way I'd want him in the locker room otherwise, I don't see how Pop would want that either. Oh, and I'll gladly join the chorus of Fuck Jabari Young. What a trolling immature bastard.
  14. Morocco has so much talent all around Europe. I'm sure it has been said by someone after game 1, but I can't believe they lost to Iran.
  15. Were you at any? Licha's was pretty fuckin fun on the back patio. The video of Takoba looked like their patio was the same. I didn't know they opened back up.
  16. I've been staying away from commenting until something official happens, or we hear it directly from Kawhi, but fuck this is fucked up. I'm still trying to stay chill about it, but if he really leaked it before even meeting Pop to tell him face-to-face, I've severely overestimated what time of person Kawhi is. I hope that's not him.
  17. +1 on the HEB homemade tortilla chips for home nachos, they are crispy and thick, so very hard to get them soggy. +1 for piles of nachos. Take the extra second to layer the toppings sure, but single chip nachos are for mid-west pansies. My favorites in the area: 1. Juana Taco (truck off 11th street), best in town. Pancho-style, fajita, beans, cheese, guac, diced tomato/onion. Perfection. 2. Taco Palenque (Nachos or Panchos) in San Marcos (south TX chain you can find in Houston, Laredo, RGV). Probably my favorite around, real fajita meat, beans, cheese, guac. 3. Super Burrito (and if really in a pinch, Taco Cabana).
  18. They grabbed me back in with the last episode. It was interesting, tied together a small plot-line, and although the story still seems like a jumbled mess overall, they narrowed the episode down and focused on a character/line for one episode, and it worked great. And Heart-Shaped Box was a GREAT rendition. +rep for the post.
  19. Because the military (usually) functions with honor? Police, their reps (probably more important), and politicians aren't known for functioning with honor....
  20. I would think if he already has a history of being nimble/quick that most of his concerns about injury should be alleviated with that fact. If he's cut and sprinted for short distances before then he knows his knees/joints can take it, that's pretty much most of the injury risk at that age. Depending on the level of play (huge school that plays other huge schools with big kids?) his injury risk could be higher, but I'm not sure that high school varsity football players are coming close to the concussion rates of NCAA or NFL players. Even less so for Defensive Backs I'd assume. Plenty of DB's in high school can get away with being athletic/quick/explosive and still start while clearly being scared to hit on the field.
  21. Random tip I just benefited from, NSIAP: Used Hertz a bit the last few years because I was in-between serviceable cars and the ability to get a new one, had about 1500 points saved up, no need to use them any time soon (got the new car, and 1500 points is like one day rental), but just found the option on their Rewards website to transfer their points to Rapid Rewards miles (something like 500 Hertz points=600 Rapid Rewards), so I put in a request to do that. I should be getting 1200 rapid rewards soon for a perk that I thought I'd never be able to use through Hertz. Definitely flying more often than renting a car these days. They have most major American airlines miles covered. I got most of my Hertz points (500) just for signing up, so basically just signing up to get bombarded with spam emails could net you some miles....
  22. Bro. Really? You're arguing boxing metrics for a business deal? This is capitalism, this is how our country works. He doesn't get to call shots because he has a "big mexican fanbase," he gets to call shots because his profitability outweights GGG's exponentially. You can do the research for GGG's biggest PPV #s outside of the Canelo fight, compare that with Canelo's PPV #s outside of GGG (you can even disregard Mayweather if you'd like, that's an outlier), then you'll have your answer as to why capitalism rules this scenario.
  23. Horn/Bud, Trout/Charlo Santa Cruz/Mares. Fun weekend, fight fans.
