  1. Certainly there is a upside to the rule, and it's as you state for the rural kids. However, no one should believe the top 10% rule is all positive with no drawbacks.
  2. I hope you understand or learn the down side of the top 10% rule (or whatever it's at). Kids outside the top 10% at great performing high schools schools lose a spot at UT to kids in the top 10% from poor performing high schools. For example, the kid who's top 12% at Westlake is probably better educated than the kid who's top 7% at Manor yet the Manor kid is guaranteed a spot. That forces the Westlake kid to go to say, Auburn.
  3. The university is already making changes related to the song. See: Previously called “the Guides of Texas,” intended to sound similar to “The Eyes of Texas,” the admissions office decided to separate itself from the name last July..."

I'm ready to apply. I may be the oldest intern in the history of LHN, but I'll focus on this preferred qualification "Historical knowledge of UT sports". Will have to sneak my kids in to perform "editing, screening and/or logging video".
  6. I'm down for 8. It's one more game for 16 teams out of 130ish.
  7. Oh, nice. Hi, @kyleumlang!
  8. I stumbled across this book by Mr. Umlang. I've ordered it for an aggy sister-in-law's birthday present. https://www.amazon.com/101-Aggie-Facts-Things-Longhorn/dp/1658685474/
  9. It could go another way. The leaders and members of the other band begin complaining loudly that they are not allowed to play enough at big events like football while the LHB gets all the glory such that the news reporters won't let the LHB vs other band idea go.
  10. And surprisingly, neither comes from Home Alone 3.
  11. I trust it's pick similar name, get some news coverage, get lawsuit threat from Heisman Trophy Trust, get even more news coverage, change name to your other pick, enjoy free publicity from Heisman folks. If the Heisman legal team doesn't respond, I'll be surprised.
  12. Doesn't it make more sense to toss your second Texas NHL team in Houston with a metro population over 7 million and a stadium already built?
  13. This what I am thinking but wanted to understand what 'one time' meant here. We're heading to full free agency. Hell, maybe coaches can start trading players.
  14. It's beyond time for a third NFL and / or MLB team in the state of Texas. However, Austin isn't going to be that city, especially for MLB. I can see the NFL doing a suburban stadium in Austin.
  15. One time means each student is allowed to do it once in their college career?
  16. I miss both our manager and our offense.
  17. Now that the Astros didn't hire Hirch, I'm thinking he needs a longer ban from MLB. I don't want the Tigers to get good...
  18. That'd be cool if my twitter handle was on TV!
  19. I take it you've never met me.
  20. Thanks for clarifying. If Drew left in 2017 for Illinois and had success there, he'd be a legitimate candidate for Texas in 2021, but since he's still at Baylor, no way.
  21. I get the F Baylor talk about the rapes and murder, but why Scott Drew? He wasn't there when the murder occurred and isn't in the football program.
  22. I'd rather be 4-1 with trashcans on the field than anything less with trashcans off the field.
  23. She loves the lake more.
  24. Justice Clarence Thomas: “It strikes me as odd that coaches’ salaries have ballooned and they are in the amateur ranks, as are the players.” What college coaches are considered amateur ?
  25. I suppose I could handle Utah to the Big 12 if and only if they brought CU back. I enjoyed manhandling the Buffs and would expect Sark to continue that tradition. I'll even take BYU if we can dump WVU to limit the size to 12 teams.
