  1. I’ve never seen Blanton’s gold or SFTB being poured stateside in a bar....is this his home bar?
  2. It’s a sad day in bourbon life...Longtime distiller Dave Pickerell has passed. RIP Boss Hog 🥃🙏🏾http://a68.tinypic.com/wlmwz.jpg
  3. I’m popping one of these after we win.
  4. Can’t we keep all bottle selling/trading on Best Buy Couponing?
  5. I enjoy the Redbreast 12yr Cask strength too. Now I will always love Scotch and bourbon, but I’ve been picking up the pace on other spirits like brandy and rum. High aged, high proof rums are my jam now.
  6. I’m a fan of most of the Ardbegs and Laphroaigs. I like Lagavulin 16. From Balvenie, I enjoy the 21yr Portwood and Tun 1509. For an after dinner pour, can’t beat Dalmore’s Cigar Malt or their 18yr. The Glendronach Parliament is my favorite highland followed by Glenmorangie. For blends, no one does it better than John Glaser at Compass Box. Best blender on the planet, hands down. For globals, Yamazaki Sherry or Mizunara are stellar. For a more an affordable global, Amrut fusion is great. My favorite Irish pour is from Writer’s Tears in cask strength. Barry Crockett is also good. But nothing can beat the best Irish release ever... Proper 12
  7. http://i67.tinypic.com/1r2gr6.jpg I remember it being a good Weller pour. But the SW bottles from days past are the most memorable.
  8. I’m here in Costa Rica and it’s a great place for all outdoor activities. Lots of hiking, surfing, fishing opportunities, volcanos, waterfalls etc...think of the scenic ruggedness and beauty of Hawaii coupled with the ease and familiarity of the Yucatán/Pacific vacay spots. We’re contemplating a 2nd home here it’s so badass.
  9. BFLT, it truly depends on which years you’re referring. Neon, I would scratch Parker’s 8yr Malt, but the other Parker’s releases are solid and I wouldn’t discount them. Without knowing the years, I’d sip Sazerac since it’s the only rye and then Parker’s, Lot B & OFBB16 in that order.
  10. The way the store pick single barrel system works is two ways: 1. The retail store/whiskey group or restaurant/bar account will travel to the distillery (at their expense and sometimes subsidized by the liquor company) to select a barrel in the rickhouse or taste samples in a tasting room. The best experience is thieving and tasting barrels in the rickhouse with a master distiller. 2. The other method involves a local/regional sales rep/ambassador who brings you a briefcase full of samples from which to choose. After one sample has been spoken for, the salesperson will move on to the next account until all samples have been chosen. The majority of storepicks are done this way. To answer the question of which version is better, the store pick will always win out. However, those storepicks in which the account selects the barrel at the distillery will always reign supreme. In Texas, there are certain retail and hospitality accounts that get access to honey barrels due to either buying power or strong relationships with distilleries. Find out who travels, who does the tastings and you will likely end up with some good juice.
  11. I remember Lester doing this a few years ago
  12. It’s Ryeday. What’s in your glass tonight? Mine...a 21yr old Rocky Mountain Rye by the good folks from High West. Cheers 🥃
  13. Multnomah Whiskey Library is a Mecca for great juice (on par with Canon’s and Jack Rose). It’s worth the effort.
  14. Yes that’s a 75% increase from the ‘17. Proof has dropped from 110 to 101. If y’all aren’t aware, Dixon Dedman sold to Stoli. Thanks Stoli. He Stolit like he meant it.
  15. I haven’t tasted Highland Mist but I would gift him Macallan 12yr. It’s a good standard rep for a Highland single malt. If he prefers a blend, try Johnny Walker Black (12yr) or JW Green (15yr).
  16. Just finished Valentina’s. Hot damn those tacos are righteous...the Real Deal Holyfield
  17. Which OFBB year are you referring? Personally, the 2002 bottle has been my favorite so far.
  18. Best bourbon release of 2017 imho. They just released a one time single barrel bottling for a charity event in Ky. I’m hoping that since the label has been approved, that there will be barrel picks for retail accounts in the near future.
  19. What’s in your glass tonight? I’m sipping on an early barrel proof from Elijah Craig. Clocking in at 134.8. It gives a warm Kentucky hug.
  20. Yeah...an 80 proofer mixed with port wine? No thanks, I’ll stick to Booker’s. Neat.
  21. I had some pan-seared in the Keys. I was surprised at how much more expensive it was on the menu...prolly due to the labor cost in cleaning the fuckers. It was mild, flaky and tasty but next time would rather eat hogfish.
  22. Batshit cray cray ole lady is close to deserving her own thread.
  23. I live closer to Lake Travis and I’ll make that drive when I know there’s something special on his shelves.
  24. So sorry so Asian...uploading on phone can’t see shit
