Русский корабль - иди нахуй
Back when I worked in the missile world, I worked on the MLRS program. They had rocket that dispersed SADARM rounds that would float down on parachutes. They had sensors that could detect targets and then fire projectiles down on them. Enough KE to penetrate tank top armor. Cool concept. It's been discontinued, though...

Interesting...didn't realize this post was in CR. I can't select CR from the list of forums, but apparently I can reply to a notification. Going to have to get them to fix that glitch. I don't want to interact in this cesspool.

Nope. I asked the mods to lock it for me. So, I have no idea why you tagged me.

You're a douchebag? I have zero idea why Im tagged here. It can't be any CR reason because I had the mods lock me out from there.

The ICDS (Inter Connected Drive Shaft) will shift power in the event of a SINGLE engine loss. You can easily fly with just one engine. But, just like all aircraft, loss of ALL engines is different. As long as you have enough potential and kinetic energy, you can dead stick it in while in airplane mode.- Русский корабль - иди нахуй
We lost a third of that in 20 years in A-stan...- Rowlett Helicopter Crash Footage 3/25/22
The support HMX-1 birds are V-22s. Badass for lots of things but autorotations aren't its forte. Luckily, you can just land it like a fixed wing, knowing full well the rotors are exploding during landing.- Русский корабль - иди нахуй
a) As the saying goes: Amateurs talk tactics. Professionals talk logistics. Trust me, logistic lines are of HUGE importance in the planning of anything we would do. ii) With the drones, counter UAS is a HUGE thing in the industry, both military and commercial. Knowing some folks who have worked on the military side, there's a lot of scary things we can do for C-UAS.- Rowlett Helicopter Crash Footage 3/25/22
Most...but not all...helicopters can autorotate if they lose engines. It's not a complicated process, but it IS one that has to be recognized very quickly so that the collective can be dropped in time. Then, it is kind of like gliding. However, Robinsons have low inertia rotors which make an autorotation more difficult. Pretty much all Bell products are designed to be easy to autorotate because they have high inertia rotors which slow down a lot slower when power is removed. You also have to watch out for being in the "Dead Man's Curve". In this area, you either don't have enough potential+kinetic energy or altitude to recover from many problems. That being said, losing the tail boom is pretty much a death sentence. Two of my pilot friends died in 2016 doing flight test when the tail boom separated.- Rowlett Helicopter Crash Footage 3/25/22
I've got 150 hrs as an FTE in a 412. It was an experimental helicopter used by Canada's NRC (their version of NASA). We flew some experimental control laws so basically the aircraft was being controlled by a laptop in front of me while I monitored a bunch of Simulink strip charts. Fun times. I was actually in the simulation modeling group so being able to get in a real helicopter was pretty cool for me. I've got well over a 1000 hrs flying the various simulators... PM me your cousin's name. It's possible I know him.- Rowlett Helicopter Crash Footage 3/25/22
Ah...it was a Robinson. Every single test pilot I worked with at my last job said they'd never get in one of those. And these are people that fly experimental helicopters for a living.- Rowlett Helicopter Crash Footage 3/25/22

FIFY... I don't know that the military would actually follow through on that order, though. I'm sure there are people in the chain of command that would, but are they in charge of the actually launching?- Interesting map. Map of immigrant nationality

Well, they're persona non grata for a whole lot of federal government agencies already. We won't purchase any DJI product specifically for that reason - because we work with a lot of fedgov folks and want to make sure we can can continue to do so. But, I hope that if they pull that BS we'd put a full on ban/sanction against them. But, they ARE the market leader in commercial UAS so it'll be interesting.- Русский корабль - иди нахуй
