  1. I think because of my late arrival on Friday and early departure on Sunday, I'll end up staying close to the airport in East Boston. So, what's the easiest way to get from EB to the North End or and of the other parts mentioned above? Uber/Lyft? Taxi? Subway?
  2. I live on the Island. Mathis is a 1 hr drive. But. I AM gong to try out these options. There's also one down Waldron that just got started. "Gotta Have It." I'll try it and report back.
  3. When I was 1-5 years old I lived in Darmstadt. My folks were friends with a local German family. I remember when St Nicklaus came to the friend's house... It was magical. That's the only way to describe it. Kids in the US wouldn't understand.
  4. I get this sentiment... However, I also look at it from the other direction, too. Texas BBQ is what it is BECAUSE of the trinity and simplicity. Just like KC is known for burnt ends/sweet sauce, Carolina for hog and their different sauces, etc. I just hope this doesn't stray TOO far from the original. Don't want it to be like a list of the top 50 Tex Mex joints having a #1 because of their Lomo Saltado and Arroz Chaufa...just because they didn't stick to the origins of Tex Mex. That said, I'm going to have to try a lot of these new places. Glad to see DFW is getting better BBQ than Dickeys and Rudys... Now...I just need some good BBQ in Corpus.
  5. I stayed in Benalmedina, the next town south, a few years ago. It was AWESOME. Take a day trip to the Rock of Gibraltar. They kids will love the Macaques.
  6. That would be like saying my last meal in Lockhart Texas would be an Allsups burrito...
  7. DFW BBQ pretty much sucked the whole time I lived there. Pecan Lodge and Heim opened up, but I don't go to Dallas much (I lived in Weatherford) and Heim was just starting when I left. So, what makes the BBQ better at these new DFW locations than the BBQ in Luling and Lockhart? Because that shit is GOOOoooooD! I will note that I'm probably going to pass on my gameday trips to Snow's from now on. As Yogi Berra said, "No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded."
  8. Don't forget Bill Millers. No WAY they're not Top 5. I mean, just like Dickey's, they've got lots of restaurants. And isn't THAT really the measure of how good something is? Like Applebees and Chiles!
  9. Harlingen? Shit. Someone needs to go to jail for that. I got to spend 5 weeks in Harlingen this summer. That was the worst 20 years of my life.
  10. So, I'm looking at doing a status run to keep my Platinum status with AA for the next year. I need about 3350 EQMS so I was looking around and I can get a little over 4K EQMs for a QUICK weekend trip to Boston. Fly in late Friday, have all day to do stuff in Boston, then fly out Sun morning. Flight is $298 - which is a cheap price to pay to keep Platinum (plus I get mini vacation). Hotel is paid by points. I've been to Boston before - about 5 years ago. So, I've done the Freedom Trail and a lot of the big highlights. So, I'm looking for some lesser known things to do. Also food/drink recs. I may go back to the Bell in Hand...that WAS a pretty cool place.
  11. Just saw earlier that the AMEX Plat and Plat Bus were offering 20-25K MR points for adding authorized users (and they each spend $2k in 6 mo). First 3 AUs cost $175. So, for $175 you could get up to 75K MR points. Not saying it's a great offer, but it's an offer...if anyone was looking at adding AUs...
  12. This is a good breakfast. My cousin owns a condo a short walk down the road from this place. He goes there every time he's in town (and so do we).
  13. I understood that they were 2 separate requirements. AA has requirements like that. But, I thought he was discussing getting the status PAST that flight. And WTF did the 40/segment x 4 = 160/segment shit come into play in that discussion? I'm going to guess that not everyone on here works for TPG and speaks in travelese....
  14. BTW, totally unrelated to the spat above... If you're AA, check your account. I had a Status Challenge to Platinum available yesterday. 3 months at Plat and you get to keep it if you meet the criteria, I think 12K EQMs and $2K EQDs or something close to that. Allowed me to bump my seats for my next 2 trips up to Main Cabin Extra for the legroom at least.
  15. Where do you tell me anything about BA Silver in this? Or oneworld lounge access? How do I get 600 tier points? Is it related to the 40/segment? But, then, 4 segments only gets 160 which is <<< than 600 for the 4 segments. Do you see how that could be a bit cryptic?
  16. Well, for starters, you didn't say anything about either of those????
  17. Don't have Flagship access...The advice above was a little cryptic in trying to get it too... Now, I just did a status challenge with AA today so I'm Platinum now,. Maybe that'll help.
  18. The normal time we arrive on gameday weekends - 0945 or so. Usually there's a bit of a line but this one stretched all the way to the back. Sat down to eat at 1130. Only 2 briskets left after we got our food. And a bit of sausage. Chicken ran out at 0848 (they write it on a sign by the door). All sides were gone.
  19. Went to Snow's last weekend. Line was insane. I've never seen it that long. Food was worth it, though. Snow's always delivers in the flavor department. Had my nephew's GF with and she mentioned that sometimes places get so hyped that when you get there you're disappointed...and she was NOT disappointed.
