  1. There's also a few places down on NPI, but that's a 20 min drive. Boathouse and Costa Sur are good for watching and the food is decent at Boathouse but very solid at Costa Sur. Also Padre Island Burger Company and Padre Pizzeria and good food and Ok TV scene.
  2. BTW, I'm going to the REK concert tonight at the ABC in downtown and staying at the Omni (yes, I live in Corpus, but on the island and fuck driving home from there - I'm getting shitty tonight). Going to do some drinks at the Republic and maybe an appetizer before the concert. Other than Brewster, what's a good place to go after it's over? I rarely come downtown and even more rarely at night. And then, is there a good brunch/lunch place for tomorrow late morning? I know some of the usual suspects (Exec Surf, Water Street, etc).
  3. Oh yeah...this reminded me. If you like decent (not super) sushi, Scuttlebutt's sushi rolls are half price during HH. Definitely worth a shot at that price. But, I'm definitely going to try this Umyia place out sometime.
  4. https://www.blackdiamondoysterbar.com/menu Maybe that was a different one or they moved, but there's a Black Diamond Oyster Bar open on Waldron.
  5. Black Diamond Oyster Company on Waldron? Yes. Still around. Heard great reviews but still haven't made it there. Damn, I'm lazy since it's 3 min from work.
  6. I forgot... Linda's at Weber and Golihar has really good breakfast tacos. The mom of one of my engineers owns it. I found out about it when he had his mom make all of us up some tacos when we had to go out to an early morning test.
  7. It's a place that has steaks and the best sushi on the island. Right past Frost Bank in the little strip place where Subway is. Way at the back. You'll be happy. You can find their menu here https://www.restaurantji.com/tx/corpus-christi/island-time-/menu/
  8. This place is good. It's a 2 min walk from my job, too.
  9. On the island, Doc's, Angry Marlin, Costa Sur, Surfside Sandwich, Island Time On the bluff, Costa Vieja, Lumpia House I try not to go much further from the island than the bluff, though, so I really don't know that much in town other than what I've heard. Oh...Harrison's Landing in the Marina is decent. Went there once when I was working in downtown.
  10. If you INHERIT one, it's not that bad of a deal - you avoid the upfront cost which makes the overall deal horribad. We've got a couple from my GF's mom that are actually useful. We take a 2 week trip to St Martin every Christmas that costs $199 (plus $900 annual maintenance fees). We usually get the same place, but that's just because we like the area. We've also stayed in the DR 5 times and never once at the same place. One of the timeshares could get us about 3-4 months in Cancun. That's going to make retirement nice... Both have a "home base" condo - one is in Branson the other in Florida. We've never been to either of them and doubt we ever will. We use it for other places. Did Benalmedina in southern Spain a few years ago. But, as I said, they're only useful because we didn't pay any upfront costs. Both are in RCI so they've got places all over the world.
  11. Yes. You basically have to just show that you can put $24K/yr in a Belizean bank... https://internationalliving.com/countries/belize/retire/
  12. I will say that coming down on 38 is better than the way I went up. But, yeah..there's some weirdos up there. plus tourons....
  13. I actually lived abroad until I was 10 years old so I've had the travel bug for my whole life. I was born in Japan and lived in Germany and England before I ever "lived" in the US. My GF and I have looked into both the Belize QRP and the Sint Maarten DAFT (Dutch American Friendship Treaty). Both allow a relatively easy path to at least residency in the countries. We like St Martin/Sint Maarten a little more so leaning that way right now. Still have a few years until retirement so plenty of time to plan. Goal would be to either purchase a place or rent for at least 6 months of the year - from there, exploring all the other Caribbean islands would be cheap and easy. Home base is still N Padre Island so it won't suck to come back the the US either - just a different beach. But...first, my GF has agreed we'll do a 6 month tour of Europe (she can't stand historical shit - she wants to be on the beach) right when we retire so we can get that off my list...
  14. My oldest daughter lives in Sugarloaf, right next to Big Bear Lake and it is SUPER cheap compared to down the mountain...
  15. The Belize QRP is what this is called for those wanting to google it...
  16. Island Italian and the Boathouse have both had covid cases. I know II has closed for a bit but not sure of Boathouse. They may have just gone the testing way...
  17. I'm back in TX now...at my Dad's up at Medina Lake. But, I'll be home tomorrow. I'll check around town and see how it is on NPI. I know Boathouse is open.
  18. I'm visiting my Dad out in Lakehills this weekend. Went and had Jacala (off West Ave) for dinner. Great as usual. Had to drive by the house my Dad grew up in, about 3 blocks away. Brought back memories of visiting my grandma when I was a kid in the 70s. Pretty run down now, though. BTW, if y'all get out to Lakehills, the 4 Way Grill has really good burgers and La Cabana is pretty good Tex Mex.
  19. Oh.... I thought you were describing the 2 weeks I just spent in Port Mansfield where the fucking mosquitoes outnumbered the population of China and India combined.
  20. Could be. Hope not though, that would suck...
  21. They've been closing every Wednesday for awhile - talked to one of the managers there Monday. Mainly because of staffing issues.
  22. Weird...Haven't heard of any places on NPI with Covid problems. Went to Angry Marlin Thursday and it was packed. Went to Scuttlebutt's Monday and it was packed. I know all the restaurants on NPI have had issues getting employees, but nothing Covid related.
  23. I've got a guy on NPI that does snapper tours...PM me
  24. Yeah...my buddy has a spot out there too. Went on a "friends charter" - just paid gas and tipped his deck hand (who is a good guy). We dropped the lines and BAM just hauled them up. Actually got 2 on one hook...fish are stupid. But, they're also quite tasty.
  25. Well....shit. And I'm stuck down here in Port Mansfield/Harlingen for the next 2 weeks working.
