  1. Here's a pic that one of our pilots took when we were helping the county do a damage assessment after Hanna...
  2. If pissing me off is one of Judge Canales' intents, then yes. Yes, there are a lot fewer people on the beach. But, due to the few locations that people can access it, you now have a MUCH higher concentration of people in a smaller area.
  3. N Padre Island needs to keep allowing cars. You can't just park somewhere and walk to 90% of the beach because of the dunes.
  4. God I want to Falcon Punch Judge Canales...😤
  5. It was a sweaty and sleepless night, that's for sure. Winds weren't bad all day. We were inside and out all day long. Even had people swimming in the pool. It was that shit at the end that was ugly. Kind of caught me by surprise...but, then, this is my first hurricane.
  6. Storm really fucked up Bob Hall... Beach is open over by Windward and I heard one other place, but I think they're really restricting folks from getting around the pier. It'll be closed awhile I think until they can do a full structural analysis on it. My kids went out earlier and said the beach was covered with crap and the water also had tons of debris in it too. We've got some of our drones going up this week to help the county assess the damage. I'm not on the list of required personnel but I may bug my boss so I can go out and play, too...
  7. Is that done by CCFD? I know all their drone guys. Our research agency will be out on the beach in the next couple days doing drone surveillance to help out the city/county....
  8. We lost power at 11:35 pm Saturday. Came back on at 6:30 pm Sunday. Had no cell service until about 2:30...
  9. The T head is gone...Apparently also really damaged the ramp going up the pier. .
  10. Looks like y'all are getting some of the nasty outer band stuff coming from the back side. Stay safe. We're getting the worst winds right now since this shitstorm started. Luckily it took a sharp left turn before landfall. I had a bunch of family come into town today for our annual get together. It was meh most of the day. Even had folks swimming in the pool about an hour ago. Now it's getting ugly again.
  11. I just saw that New Orleans has done away with To Go drinks right now...WTF? Texas GETS To Go drinks and NOLA LOSES them? This truly is Bizarro World...
  12. Even down here on NPI where we're closer to the storm it hasn't been that bad. I've had worse storms here before. None of my chairs are in the pool on this one...
  13. Apparently, it's going to hit around Baffin Bay, south of Corpus. So, winds and rain, but not the brunt of the storm... It's blowing pretty hard here on NPI right now, bunch of stuff closed up - the outer bands are hitting us right now. Heavy rain isn't here yet.
  14. And...I'm coming home to NPI from Central TX today (actually moved it up a day because of this storm). Everything I've seen this morning says it'll stay a Tropical Storm, but winds for those can get up to 73 mph. Beach is closed on NPI all weekend COMPLETELY from 1200 today until Monday. Best case scenario would be for it to hit south of Corpus, since there really isn't a whole lot there...
  15. No, I'm asking bozo to clarify things for me. I'm an engineer, Merely telling me "this is bad" or "this is wrong" is useless to me. I need details about WHY it's bad and WHY it's wrong and also I'd like to understand what his view is on rectifying the unfavorable maps. NOTE: This does NOT mean that I think the current maps are good for you reading comprehension-challenged posters... I read the post above where they came up with a whole bunch of different maps. But, do those actually meet the @Bozo_Casanova criteria for local and community interests? The one that was supposed to be the closest was trying to use county boundaries as much as possible... But, is all of Travis County a community and local interest? How about Dallas County - Plano and Lancaster are both suburbs of Dallas inside Dallas County...and they have very few community interests, So, I'm trying to nail down the definitions and requirements for meeting the criteria of local and community interests... Sorry that you just want to insult me. I used to post a lot on Hornfans and Shaggy...but, I've seen that this place is closer to Democratic Underground than either of those sites...so I stay away, Got sucked in a little bit lately though...against my better judgement.
  16. You, sir, are a good man...👍
  17. I just have a timeshare account (through RCI) that we inherited. I'm spending 2 weeks on the water (with a small private beach) in Cupecoy in Sint Maarten from 12/19-01/02 for $239. Hard to beat that price. Don't have that deal on St Barths... We may do an overnight trip to St Barths, though, so we get 2 full days and an evening. I did enjoy it while I was there. Although, I've been told by a lot of SXM locals that Anguilla has the best beaches.
  18. I know exactly what you mean...it was just jaw dropping when I saw all of them - and I'd even seen a few in the Sint Maarten marina before they'd headed that way. We saw this one, for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Grand_Bleu_(yacht) The current owner won it in a bet...WTF????😵
  19. I didn't say I preferred it. I really liked St Barths. But, I've only spent about 8-10 hrs there, too. And St Barths is more difficult to get to and more expensive, by a lot, for me... I had a great time when I was there, though. And it was cool seeing all those 9 figure yachts in the harbor.
  20. I don't disagree with you, at least on some levels. But, should Oak Cliff and South Oak Cliff in Dallas be combined, merely because geography is better? Is Austin monolithic? Dallas? Houston? San Antonio? That's why I want to a better explanation of communities of interest...
  21. You are asking someone to write a treatise on why extreme Gerrymandering shouldn't exist? Look at a map and have some common sense to start with. Maybe read a book. No. I'm asking @Bozo_Casanova to explain this. He's called me out twice here. And we both used to have actual civil discourse on the subject...which is why I didn't make my post an attack or an ad hominem. I have a lot of respect for him. Maybe I'm trying (and I know I'll fail) to raise the level of discourse here...
  22. Somehow I got sucked back into this thread... But, I've pondered this question a few times since the last time I was here. Explain to me in detail exactly the cost it has. Explain how that cost is related to and not related to partisanship. Also explain how local community and local interest representation is completely different than anything partisan. Additional points if you can describe how districts can be drawn that don't have any partisan influence. Be sure to allow for laws that require a certain number of majority minority districts, which, not surprisingly, are completely partisan and will be hard to reconcile with the overall plan. Then, describe how these districts can be drawn IN REALITY, NOT IN THEORY taking into account the limited amount of representatives seats in state legislatures and the HoR as well as population.
  23. Got us here on NPI too. You can park at Windward Public Parking (which is right on the beach) and hang out on the beach with chairs and canopies and stuff. Supposedly, there's ADA access at Whitecap and Windward. Otherwise, no vehicles... Beaches in Corpus central are fucked though. Only exercising allowed. No sitting, eating, drinking, etc... Kinda sucks for me since I had a whole group of family coming down from 7/25-8/1 (we've been doing this trip for over a decade). Not sure what we'll do now. Luckily, one of the condos they're staying in is mine and the other 2 are my buddies so no one is out any money.
  24. That's that stuff that's buried under all those tall buildings, right?😉
  25. More food porn because the SurlyHorn server shitcanned them the first time...
