  1. Yes. And it's hard even OUTSIDE the cities. However, that has ZERO to do with what I'm talking about. They are paid an hourly wage, NOT the $2.31/hr wage that is set up for the tipping model. Stop trying to conflate my position on the MW for tipped employees with the the MW for NON-tipped employees. Those are two entirely different things. Texas is a BIG place. And half of the people do NOT live in big cities. BTW, my son's GF is a bartender here on N Padre and I know a lot of the servers/bartenders here. No one is "guaranteed" $15-17/hr here. They MAY make it, but it's not guaranteed. Again, that's on how much they make on tips. You know...because they're paid by the TIPPING model.
  2. "THEY" guarantee...by that, you mean the company she works at. And NOT the government. Ok. I've never said that would be a problem. The companies are making market decisions. WOOHOO! Exactly what I advocate for. Since your quote didn't show what I was disagreeing with, I think I should repost it so there's context... "Ummm...no, the the ones that guarantee they're paid $15/hr WITHOUT tips (which is what most of the laws are doing)." I was SPECIFICALLY talking about the states/cities that made the ACTUAL MW $15/hr. Not "net of tips". If the company was paying them $15/hr, then they don't need those tips to make $15/hr "net of tips". They're making it WITHOUT the tips.
  3. Been to Rum Point a couple times. Also Starfish Point. Water has been a bit cold because it's been overcast. Rum Point has some good food. The Johnny Cakes and Conch Croquettes are legit. We've been just driving around and checking out different beaches though. Hit Spott's Beach today. It was nice. Then we stopped at Czech Inn and got some Jaeger Schnitzel to go. FUCK that's a lot of schnitzel. I was impressed. The GF didn't want that so we also ordered a Supreme Pizza from Italian Kitchen. It's pretty tasty. Going to get Tukka tomorrow and also need to get more from the Czech Inn menu soon.
  4. Cool, so cheating on taxes should be kosher, since they're doing wage theft...
  5. Ummm...everywhere in Texas? That's the whole point of the tipping model. Can you tell me which restaurants do NOT pay $2.31/hr in TX? Ummm...no, the the ones that guarantee they're paid $15/hr WITHOUT tips (which is what most of the laws are doing). I don't know any restaurants that pay line cooks on the tipping model. And, yeah, I've had kids work both in the front and the back. The ones in the front were on the tipping model. The ones in the back were paid straight hourly. Maybe you need to move out of your enclave to understand that they actually do...we can't all go to Michelin restaurants, you know.
  6. Before Piggly Wiggly, there weren't shopping carts to go through the grocery store. You would go to the counter clerk and give them a list of items you wanted. Piggly Wiggly gave people the option to pick out their own stuff. OR, did they shift the work load to the customer? The self-checkout was along the same concept. Gave the customer the option to check out their own stuff. OR did they shift the work load to the customer?
  7. My point was specifically about restaurants that pay BASED on tipping. The ones who pay $2.31/hr where it was expected that they would make up the rest in tips. But, if you paid them $15/hr, why would I need to tip? Their pay isn't based on the tipping model any more. Just like the European model...or every fast food restaurant or store people go into. When have you tipped the cashier when you got your Whataburger with Cheese? Or even at QT or Buccees where they pay higher wages (of course, they're hiring from a different pool of people because of that)? BTW, where in TX has the MW been moved up to $15/hr? I know it's not in Corpus. Places may PAY that much, but it isn't mandated by law. Oh...and...I'm quite sure the reason I don't post here on this specific forum will be realized quite quickly. So, thanks...
  8. What about this has anything to do with my position on tipping?
  9. Well, due to our schedules, we're flying in on Sunday. Any recommendations for us there? I assume we need to at least buy some booze at duty free at the airport? But, what about after that? And yeah...I did my penance raising a shit ton of kids. Do NOT want to deal with a bunch of other people's shitlings...Or listen to that bullshit game stuff. I am there for relaxation...
  10. BTW, how is the resort? Fun to hang out at? Do they roll up the sidewalks at 9pm? I'm looking forward to this. We've been to a number of places in the Caribbean and this has always been on our list. BTW, how easy is it to get used to driving on the wrong side of the road? I lived in England as a kid but, didn't do the driving.
  11. That sounds great! Definitely going to try those places out. But, JFC, you have to get up at 0630? Is that just for the palapas or will there still be beach chairs/umbrellas if we sleep in? And other places on the island we should visit?
  12. Thanks!! Any tips on things we need to do? We're not going diving, so that's out. I'm an old fat fuck that likes to sit on the beach and drink fruity rum drinks. But, I don't mind getting out and about since we're there for 2 weeks.
  13. Yes. Have you been there?
  14. We're going there over Christmas. But, we're staying on the East End. Any tips on that side?
  15. Fair enough.
  16. So, semantics is the issue? Yes, I get there was hyperbole. But, there's a whole lot of that on this thread.
  17. I do have a question here. The arrow points at when Biden assumed office. While the rate of encounters increased after the low point of covid, it had basically stabilized prior to the election. Then, immediately after Biden assumed office the migrant encounters doubled in the first 6 months. How does that graph show that his point was wrong?
  18. Not as good as Jacala... But it's good. Of course, I unfortunately spent 30 years in DFW after leaving SA so maybe my taste buds adapted to having to deal with all the subpar TexMex up there. And now I'm in Corpus so I'm eating MUCH better than DFW but still different than SA. BTW, go try La Cabana out in Lakehills and let me know what you think. It's where my dad lives so I go there every time I see him.
  19. That's the whole reason I left...
  20. Look at Bandera... Or Boerne...
  21. Does she have big tits? That should direct your answer. hth
  22. Sorry, forgot this was an echo chamber. Mea culpa.
  23. El Chaparral in Helotes is pretty good. My go to, Jacala, unfortunately burned down a few years ago.
  24. We've got the other Guajillos here on N Padre Island. It's GOOOOD. But, the caveat. As they say, it is Mex without the Tex. Don't expect Tex Mex there.
