  1. Alternatively, the partisan Republican Supreme Court majority is the problem, and it needs to become the minority.
  2. Just put a push-pull phase switch in my jazzmaster. Total cost: $7.43. Sounds fucking awesome, highly recommend.
  3. I had heard it was under a minute, but CNN says the Dayton shooter was killed less than 30 seconds after he fired his first shot. That much damage from one person with a gun in 30 seconds. They're also reporting that he had a lot of writings at home showing he was obsessed with killing people, but no connection with anything political.
  4. Just called and did the cancel routine. Best I could do was: 6 months $40 (plus tax) for XM select + streaming 6 months $30 (plus tax) for XM select with no streaming
  5. Her husband just retweeted this:
  6. Beto's greatest strength is being genuine and relatable, like a non-slimy Bill Clinton. He hasn't found a way to convey that in this strong field of Dems before now, but he really found his legs on this one. I can't see him winning, but there's definitely a lane, and maybe Veep spot, for someone who cuts through the crap as well as he does.
  7. Warren won debate #2. Lulz Delaney.
  8. If you get called a racist so regularly that you can set a clock by it, chances are that you're a racist.
  9. In a sane world, seeing someone walking around like that should give lead time for people to call the cops. Instead nothing can be done until the moment he gets into position and starts spraying a crowd with bullets. I wonder if anyone saw the El Paso shooter walking through the parking lot before shooting and valuable seconds were lost in response time.
  10. The unsuccessful Times Square bomber was an American citizen and got mandatory life.
  11. The unsuccessful shoe bomber got 3 x life plus 110 years. The unsuccessful underwear bomber got 4 x life plus 50 years. And that was through the criminal justice system.
  12. I think we need both. Obama can be the boring gravitas guy as a comparison to Trump. The candidates can bring the heat.
  13. The absolute last people who would be deterred by the death penalty are mass shooters who are expecting suicide by cop.
  14. China doesn't have to outrun time. It just has to outrun your presidency.
  15. Voters don't care about process. But they might care about the substance of what's being blocked from the floor.
  16. Agree 100%. Democrats need to abandon the long-held narrative that reasonable means bipartisan compromise. Compromise where you must to get law enacted, but ram through whatever you can and be proud of it.
  17. It's amazing to me. I still think of Arizona as the place that had Jan Brewer and implemented that awful papers please law a short while ago. Still, they have a GOP governor.
  18. Trade wars are good and easy to win.
  19. Not to discourage donations to worthy causes, but every dollar would be better spent supporting a candidate in a 2020 Senate race.
  20. I'm not saying they aren't scum. Just the opposite: if you are in on the racism and lies and autocracy purely for personal economic advantage, you are a worse human being than the complete idiots who have been hoodwinked. But that doesn't mean that they will stick with Trump no matter what. Just as easily as they joined him, they'll abandon him if they think it benefits them financially. That won't make them good people, but it could impact the election.
  21. Most Trump supporters would follow him over a cliff and blame the Dems for it. But there is a significant number of people who support him purely out of perceived economic self-interest, even while recognizing that he's a piece of shit. They're even worse humans than his idiot cultists, but they could potentially abandon him. One subgroup of them won't because they don't want to pay increased taxes at any cost. But I think there's a subgroup that credits Trump with the current economy and will blame him if it collapses.
  22. Either way, he didn't notice. If the teleprompter said Hawaii, he'd probably have noticed. But he didn't notice, either because he doesn't know where the shooting happened or because he doesn't distinguish between Toledo and Dayton.
  23. How does that affect anything? The post you quote doesn't claim he created it.
