  1. It might. Hell, I hope it is, because that's what they're going with.
  2. It's all about the context and expectations. The Dem leadership killed impeachment as a matter of strategy. That was the big win for Trump, and it happened largely from the malpractice of Nancy Pelosi. The only way that strategy could have been thwarted is by really powerful testimony from Mueller that goes beyond the words of the report. And he has not provided that. He's essentially done no more than confirm quotes from the report, and in very dry, old-man fashion.
  3. No, revenue is essentially flat. It should be way up because of the growing economy. Regardless, my point is about each individual's tax burden relative to spending. And your analogy proves my point. In the real world, the person in your example either wouldn't buy the house because of the massive mortgage payment or, if he does but can't afford it, would lose the house (or make painful cuts elsewhere). What you're advocating is, in essence, slashing his monthly mortgage payment for the same expensive house. Do you think that makes him more or less likely to buy the house he can't afford?
  4. The spending problem is caused by the taxing problem. As McConnell just told Trump, people don't lose elections for spending more. The reason for that is that people don't feel any personal impact for spending more in the form of taxes. Our taxes are going down at the same time spending is going back up. Massive deficits is the legacy of Reagan and the modern conservative movement.
  5. "I just heard you say one." Just fucking say it, man.
  6. For as long as Republicans pretend that deficits are only caused by spending and not lack of revenue. The policy argument needs to be "tax more and spend more" (Dems) versus "tax less and spend less" (Reps). That is, we should only vote for the policies we are willing to pay for, and the partisan debate is over what policies are worth the cost. Instead, modern "conservativism" argues that fiscal responsibility is "tax less, worry about spending later." With Americans no longer needing to pay for the extra spending, there is no public will to cut spending. That is why we're in this situation.
  7. Steube was not prepared for Mueller refusing to answer questions about Steele... even though it was the first thing Mueller said he wouldn't talk about this morning.
  8. Good job by the Dems having the exact citations handy. If they didn't, this would have been a clusterfuck every time he asked for it.
  9. He wants Mueller to say both sides are equally criminal and that Trump is no different than every Dem that came before him.
  10. Here we go, this is what I was asking for. The obstruction impeded the investigation of conspiracy.
  11. This guy Reschenthaler is terrible at questioning. Just reading off the page, not even listening to the answers.
  12. Aren't we still in the first session?
  13. He would have because it's in the report: "In an important but somewhat overlooked passage, the Mueller report states that in light of these “identified gaps,” in the evidence, “the Office cannot rule out the possibility that the unavailable information would shed additional light on (or cast in a new light) the events described in the report.”
  14. Have the Dems asked about whether, if not for the obstruction, there might have been evidence to prove the conspiracy?
  15. But he's already said that he can't. So you won't get an answer to that question.
  16. Well, Mueller testified that he was not there as a candidate, so bring it, I guess.
  17. I could be wrong, but I took the phrase to mean, "I understand your question, though I will not be answering." And the reason it was funny is because there was no question, just rambling, screaming pontification. So he was mocking the questioner in the driest, most understated way possible.
  18. He said at the outset that he had to because the president invoked executive privilege and Barr's letter this week instructed him not to answer anything of that nature.
  19. And it keeps working for Rs over and over again, but moderate Ds are still somehow afraid of doing anything.
  20. Nadler started strong, but the Dems are making a mistake by trying to get him to just restate facts from the report. They need to lay out the context, then get Mueller to confirm his conclusions in that context, and then they need to give shape to what his answer means.
  21. The dude behind Chabot looks like the guy in American Pie who took the massive shit
