  1. Now it's down to three congresswomen? Did he just eject Pressley from the squad because she can't be as easily portrayed as foreign to his racist base?
  2. Yeah, nobody here ever trashes Ted Cruz, or Mitch McConnell, or Marco Rubio, or Jeff Flake. Other than Rand, GOP Senators are beloved around here.
  3. It's also a good thing that she isn't a brown asylum seeker suspected of a border crossing misdemeanor, as in that case "not following the law" would justify taking her children away and/or throwing her in a concentration camp.
  4. God that interview was awful. Hope that was just an off day, but there's a reason why her campaign has been lackluster apart from the Biden thing.
  5. What do Americans not understand about how we are paying for it? We are paying for it the same way we pay for everything else that gets approved all the time. The only reason this specific spending issue continues to drag on after nearly 20 years is that the victims make great political pawns.
  6. The "rush" is providing security and finality to desperate people who are sick and dying. One of the first responders who was at the hearing with Jon Stewart a few weeks back is already dead. He literally spent his final few days on this planet begging for the security that you consider no big deal. And the notion that this is rushed, after nearly 20 years of various bills and testimony and debate, is a complete joke. There is nothing up in the air on this. The only reason this hasn't sailed through is that the desperation of 9/11 victims is politically useful to certain Republicans.
  7. Like those supporting him on this thread, Rand's only "principle" here is not spending money on things he doesn't like. It certainly isn't about fiscal responsibility, as shown by his vote for the tax bill. His actions here aren't even about the merits of the 9/11 bill, but rather using the 9/11 victims as political pawns to force cuts to unrelated spending: So this whole notion that the bill itself is unwise is bullshit post hoc rationalization. He's just posturing on a problem that he helped make significantly worse with his tax bill vote.
  8. And that Billy was Albert Einstein.
  9. I agree completely. That still doesn't make her responsible for Trump's rhetoric or its effects. At least not in a way remotely or productively comparable to his supporters and apologists in the GOP. Diverting blame from the actual bad guys to flawed Democrats does more harm in that respect than Pelosi's negligence. Trumpism's crossover into the mainstream was and is fueled by that kind of poisonous bothsidism.
  10. I'm as in favor of impeachment as it gets, and I think Pelosi's failure to start the process is disgraceful and inexcusable. But let's not kid ourselves about what "do something" means. It doesn't mean removing Trump as a threat. Impeachment in this context is about setting a standard and trying to move public opinion. But hearings are happening; Mueller is testifying next week, which is aimed at moving public opinion as well. She isn't doing nothing. Warren and Sanders are both in a better position to actually get rid of Trump simply by running a winning campaign.
  11. And I've been extremely critical of Pelosi for her treatment of the squad. But that's just part of politics. What Trump and the GOP are doing is very different. This is not a both sides thing.
  12. To wit: http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2017/05/portland-mourns-two-men-killed-defending-teens-from-racist.html
  13. Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders bear no responsibility whatsoever for putting Omar's life at risk, or for the hate that Trump is whipping up. The responsibility falls entirely on Trump, his supporters, and the Republicans in Congress who are co-signing his message. Seriously, don't fall into this trap.
  14. No doubt. But Republicans are always like, "why don't most Jews support us?!? They only care about money and Israel, and we give them tax cuts and let Netanyahu do whatever he wants!" I mean, the crazy evangelicals don't give a shit about anti-semitism; that part of the attacks on Omar are all about making that #jexodus happen.
  15. This whole display is vile and sad, but it's funny that Republicans actually think that Jewish voters will watch this and be thrilled by a screaming demagogue riling up an angry mob with calls to expel a citizen who belongs to a minority religious faith.
  16. None of which turned up a shred of evidence to support the internet post claiming that she married her brother.
  17. Yes, when the newspaper is running a story about the online rumor.
  18. Lulz at the cynical 6% who think Trump's tweets were racist but not un-American.
  19. There's also talk about the fact that Trump is sexually attracted to his own daughter. The difference being that there is actual evidence of that, while there is zero evidence about Omar.
  20. Knows nothing about it, calls it a fact.
